  • Eagles Hiring Nick Sirianni As Next Head Coach

The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni as their next head coach on Thursday, according to sources. Sirianni spent three seasons as an assistant coach with the Kansas City Chiefs, five seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and the past three years with the Colts. The Colts went 4-12 and ranked 30th in the league in points and 31st in yards in 2017, the year before Sirianni joined Indy. In the last three years, the Colts ranked fifth, 16th and ninth in scoring under the 39-year-old and made the playoffs twice. Sirianni becomes the Eagles second-youngest head coach and the fourth straight offensive-minded head coach under owner Jeffrey Lurie. He's also the team's seventh straight head coach with no previous head-coaching experience, and one of his primary jobs will be to see if the team can salvage their relationship with quarterback Carson Wentz and turn him around after the worst season of his career.

  • Philadelphia Interviews Josh McDaniels For Head Coach Role

The Philadelphia Eagles have added two new candidates to their list for potential head coach, as Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was brought in for an interview Sunday, while a request has been made to speak with Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. McDaniels has been through the rigor of interviewing for multiple franchises' head coach gigs since returning as New England's OC back in 2012. With Bieniemy also on the Eagles' list, it would appear that a move of officially having a new HC is at least a few days off. One of the biggest factors is likely how prospective coaches would handle the Carson Wentz/Jalen Hurts situation at QB, as the Philadelphia brass appears to be leaning toward keeping Wentz in the mix come '21.

  • Eagles Would Like To Bring Carson Wentz Back

There remains uncertainty about the future of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, and whoever the team hires to be the next head coach will have some input on that front, but the Eagles are telling head-coaching candidates that they want to bring Wentz back in 2021. General manager Howie Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie gave up a lot to draft Wentz at No. 2 overall in 2016, and they've given him a ton of influence in the draft, free agency and coaching decisions. But injuries have limited him to six playoff snaps in five years. After drafting rookie Jalen Hurts in the second round in 2020, Wentz had the worst season of his career and one of the worst declines for an under-30 starting QB in the last 70 years. The 28-year-old has struggled with accountability, rebuffed advice and clashed with former head coach Doug Pederson. "Every great quarterback wants to be coached and they want to be coached hard and by the best, and it doesn't seem like [Wentz] wants that," one source said. "It's kind of like whoever's coaching him is working for him. But it can't be that way." Injuries to the team's offensive line and receiving corps also didn't work in Wentz's favor in 2020. The front office remains committed to Wentz, at least because of his big contract, but there's no guarantee that he'll win the starting job if he sticks around heading into the 2021 season. Hurts wasn't perfect in his debut late in the year, but he certainly gave Philly's offense a spark that was missing when Wentz was on the field.

  • Carson Wentz Could Remain In Philadelphia

With the Philadelphia Eagles decision to fire head coach Doug Pederson on Monday, quarterback Carson Wentz's chances of staying with the team significantly increased, according to a source. Wentz planned to ask for a trade in the offseason because his relationship with Pederson was fractured beyond repair. Wentz was benched for rookie Jalen Hurts for the final quarter of the season. Sources described an Eagles offense that lacked an identity, in part because of a sizable and mismatched group of assistants. Wentz had the worst season of his career with a career-low 57.4 completion percentage, 16 touchdowns and a league-leading 15 interceptions in 12 starts. He was also sacked a league-high 50 times and lost six fumbles. He won't be guaranteed to be the starter in 2021, but Pederson's firing at least means the Eagles could salvage things with the former second overall pick in 2016.

  • Eagles Fire Doug Pederson

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has been fired, according to a source. Pederson met with ownership again on Monday to discuss his future plans for the team and their offense in particular, but apparently the team's brass didn't like what they were hearing and were ready to move on after Pederson led the team for five seasons, including a Super Bowl win in 2016 over the Patriots. The Eagles went 4-11-1 and benched the struggling Carson Wentz late in the season in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts, who provided a spark down the stretch. A questionable decision to bench Hurts for Nate Sudfeld in the Week 17 regular season finale against Washington also wasn't a good luck for Pederson, and he reportedly wasn't convinced that Hurts was the franchise signal-caller heading into 2021. It's unclear if this move will improve Wentz's chances of sticking with the team moving forward.

  • Doug Pederson On Shaky Ground

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson's status is on shaky ground and he could be out as the head coach if owner Jeffrey Lurie is not confident about Pederson's vision for the team in their next meeting, according to sources. The two are expected to meet again early this week in Florida after discussions this past Tuesday didn't go well. Lurie's concerns go well beyond the struggles of quarterback Carson Wentz, ranging from personnel to the coaching staff's outlook. The Eagles went 4-11-1 in 2020, but Pederson led the team to its only Super Bowl title in 2017 and playoff berths each of the previous three seasons. Philadelphia finished 26th in scoring (20.9 points per game) and 28th in passing yards (207.9 per game) this season, with Wentz being benched in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts down the stretch. Wentz plans to ask for a trade this offseason because of a fractured relationship with Pederson, according to sources.

  • Eagles Not Talking About Trading Carson Wentz

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman wouldn't discuss the idea of trading quarterback Carson Wentz on Monday after the team benched him in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts late in the season. "That is not anything we're talking about right now," Roseman said. Wentz will count for more than $30 million in salary cap space whether he's on the roster or not, so they'll have a tough decision this offseason. Wentz was outplayed by Hurts this year, but it's unclear at this point if Philly will give him another shot in 2021. The 28-year-old finished with 2,620 yards passing on 437 attempts (career-low 57.4 completion percentage), 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He also was sacked a career-high 50 times and lost four fumbles. Wentz's dynasty stock has fallen, but it's impossible to gauge his single-year value for next season until things become more clear in Philadelphia.

  • Carson Wentz Plans To Ask For Trade

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz plans to ask for a trade this offseason, with ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting that Wentz's relationship with head coach Doug Pederson "is fractured beyond repair." Wentz will be inactive for the team's season finale, but it was reported earlier on Sunday that the Eagles would like to have him back next season. Wentz asking for a trade would complicate that, though his contract makes it tough to see how a trade would work, as the Eagles would eat huge amounts of dead cap if they moved on from Wentz before 2022.

  • Carson Wentz Will Be Healthy Scratch In Week 17

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz will be a healthy scratch in Week 17, per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. That would leave Nate Sudfeld as the backup to Jalen Hurts. Obviously, backup quarterback moves don't have an immediate impact on the Week 17 fantasy picture, but the Wentz situation is one worth monitoring this offseason. Will he have a chance to compete for the Eagles starting job next year? Will he wind up starting elsewhere? Lots of questions as we enter 2021, though Garafolo says that the Eagles would like to have Wentz on the roster next season.

  • Doug Pederson Expects To Return In 2021

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson doesn't think his job is in jeopardy and "fully expects" to return as the head coach next season despite losing to the division-rival Cowboys in Week 16 to eliminate the team from postseason contention. As Pederson pointed out, the Eagles have won a championship and have made the playoffs in three of the five seasons that he's been in charge. Philly enters a Week 17 matchup with Washington with a 4-10-1 record. Rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will remain the starting QB in the regular season finale. Hurts has started the last three games since taking over in Week 13 for Carson Wentz. The rookie had his worst outing so far against Dallas, committing three turnovers, but he's thrown five touchdowns and two picks to go with 847 yards and a rushing score in his three games. The 22-year-old will be a QB2 with upside against Washington to close out the year.

  • Carson Wentz Handling Benching Like A Pro

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson has been impressed with the way quarterback Carson Wentz has handled losing the starting job to rookie Jalen Hurts. ESPN reported last week that Wentz was unhappy with the current situation and that he was "not interested" in backing up Hurts. But Pederson said Wentz hasn't allowed the switch to divide the locker room. "That's one thing that Carson has not allowed that to happen and he's not going to let it happen. He's been a pro about it, and he's been very talkative in the meetings..." Pederson said. The coach said Wentz has been "engaging" on the sidelines before and during games and praised Wentz for how he's run the scout team. Wentz's future with the organization is shaky, at best, but he reportedly wants to remain with the team beyond this season. The 28-year-old was an MVP candidate as recently as 2017, but he's bound to move on if the Eagles are prepared to roll with Hurts as the starter into next season.

  • Philadelphia Plans To Name Week 16 Starting QB On Monday

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts delivered a masterful performance during Sunday's loss to the Cardinals, compiling 399 yards of combined offense to go along with four touchdowns. But that was not enough for head coach Doug Pederson to tab him as the team's starter for Week 16 versus Dallas. Pederson noted that he would likely announce his starting QB on Monday, which is almost certainly going to be Hurts, as opposed to Carson Wentz. After a solid performance in his first start against a tremendous Saints Defense, Hurts put together eye-popping numbers against a solid Cardinals unit, which puts him in consideration for QB1 status in deeper season-long leagues should he ultimately be tabbed to face the Cowboys.

  • Eagles Haven't Decided A Starting QB For Week 14

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said on Monday that he hasn't decided on the team's starting quarterback for Week 14 against the Saints after Carson Wentz was benched for rookie Jalen Hurts in the Week 13 loss to the Packers. Wentz went 6-for-15 for 79 yards while running the ball three times for 18 yards before being replaced by Hurts in the third quarter. Hurts went 5-for-12 passing for 109 yards, a touchdown and an interception and gave the Eagles offense a spark that Wentz just hasn't been able to create in 2020. At this point, it seems likely that the Eagles will turn to the rookie the rest of the way, so fantasy managers shouldn't plan on having Wentz in superflex leagues this weekend. Hurts has intriguing upside as a thrower and a runner, but he'll be a low-end QB2 against a tough New Orleans defense if he gets the first start of his career under center.

  • Eagles Divvying Up Play-Calling Duties

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson confirmed that he is divvying up play-calling duties on offense at times, saying that it's a "collaborative" effort and that it's "my decision to call plays or if I'm going to give them up." "It hasn't been a lot, but something I'll consider each week," Pederson said. Pass-game coordinator Press Taylor has been given some of the play-calling duties and senior offensive assistant Rich Scangarello has done some of the two-minute work. Quarterback Carson Wentz has fallen off a cliff in terms of his production from previous seasons, although injuries, a crumbling offensive line and a lack of difference-making weapons around him hasn't helped his cause. Wentz will be getting tight end Zach Ertz (ankle) back in Week 13 against the Packers, but he's become more of a low-end QB2 for fantasy managers at this point.

  • Carson Wentz Likely To Struggle Again In Week 13

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has struggled all season and there's no reason to believe he won't struggle some more in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers. Wentz has been sacked on almost 11 percent of his drop backs, leading the league by a significant margin. Some of those sacks have surely been the fault of the Eagles offensive line, but Wentz himself has held the ball way too long and missed seeing wide open receivers countless times. He hasn't hit a 60 percent completion rate since Week 4, and has averaged under seven yards per attempt in nine of his starts this season. A lot of Wentz's plummeting value has come from his rushing, but the Packers have yet to allow a rushing touchdown to an opposing quarterback. The only clear path to fantasy value this week could come from the Eagles failing to stop the Packers on offense, leading to volume-based fantasy points in a second half made of almost all garbage time. Wentz is teetering on QB2/3 and is only a consideration in Superflex and 2QB formats.

  • Doug Pederson On The Hot Seat?

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he hasn't been assured of his job status moving forward, although he said his relationship with owner Jeffrey Lurie "is good." The Eagles lost to the Seahawks on Monday night and dropped to 3-7-1, putting them in third place in the NFL's worst division. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported that Lurie is unhappy with the team and that performances like Monday's "will have him seriously assessing his coach's status." The Eagles have scored exactly 17 points in three straight games and haven't gone over 30 points all year, so the solution might be a change in play-calling. Pederson continues to say that quarterback Carson Wentz is the starter, but something might have to give if Wentz's play doesn't improve soon. A big factor has been a rotating cast on the offensive line, as Philly used their 10th different starting offensive line on Monday night.

  • Carson Wentz Has Dropped Off In 2020

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has seen a huge drop-off in production this year compared to his last three seasons. Wentz had a 98.3 passer rating from 2017-19 and has a 73.4 passer rating in 2020. Since 1950, he's the sixth quarterback, and only one under the age of 30, to have a passer rating more than 24 points below his combined rating over the previous three seasons. Four of the five QBs on that list retired immediately following that season. Wentz went 25-15 from 2017-19 with 81 touchdowns and 21 interceptions, and he's 3-7-1 this year with 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He was sacked a career-high 37 times in 2019, but he's already been sacked 46 times in 2020 with five games to go. It doesn't help that he doesn't have many weapons around him in the passing game. Things won't get any easier in Week 13 against the Packers. Continue to treat Wentz as a turnover-prone QB2 in superflex leagues.

  • Carson Wentz Leads The Eagles To A Loss On Monday

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz led his team to another loss on Monday Night Football. Wentz attempted 45 passes, completing 25 of them for 215 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. He ran the ball five times, leading the team with 42 rushing yards. Wentz was even worse than his line showed, as his second touchdown came on a deflected last-minute Hail Mary play that somehow landed in the hands of Richard Rodgers in the end zone. Wentz held onto the ball way too long again and simply did not see some of his receivers get open. He took six sacks, adding to his league-leading total. Wentz looked frustrated throughout the game, echoing the way Eagles fans around the country are feeling about him.

  • Carson Wentz Has An Excellent Week 12 Matchup

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has been anything but good on the field this season, but he's still been the 14th-best quarterback in standard-scoring fantasy formats. He's thrown two or more touchdowns in five of the past six games and is always a threat to score on the ground. He certainly hasn't been a great real-life quarterback for Philly, but he has had his moments in fantasy this year and still makes for a decent QB2 in superflex leagues. Week 12 presents an excellent fantasy matchup, as the Seahawks Defense is allowing the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks by a significant margin. If Wentz and the Eagles offense can't get right in this prime Monday Night Football matchup, then we may finally see rookieJalen Hurts do more than just come in for a predictable running play when he's on the field. Wentz, despite the pristine matchup, is a QB2 this week.

Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz had a rough game in Week 11 against the Cleveland Browns. Wentz completed 21 of 35 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the game. He was also sacked five times. In an interview after the game, head coach Doug Pederson was asked if Wentz would start next week and Pederson said "No questions about it. He's our starter." It's been an uneven season for Wentz, but there certainly still doesn't seem to be any indication that rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will be replacing him as the starter anytime soon.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz struggled again in a rainy Week 11 loss to the Cleveland Browns. Wentz completed 21 of his 35 passes for 235 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Many of Wentz's yards came in what was essentially garbage time, as the Browns had a multiple score lead in the fourth quarter. Wentz's two interceptions were likely two of the worst picks thrown in the NFL this week, as he essentially targeted defenders with the two passes. Wentz was able to add 10 yards on three carries and was lucky to have his fumble recovered by players wearing his same jersey. It hasn't been a good year for Wentz, but a matchup against the very generous Seahawks secondary awaits him next week.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is becoming a riskier and riskier fantasy starter, and that trend continues heading into a Week 11 game against the Cleveland Browns. Wentz is currently on a 16-game pace to throw for 3,717 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 21 interceptions. Despite a good matchup against a Browns Defense that allows the 11th-most points to opposing fantasy quarterbacks, Wentz is a QB2 with top-10 overall upside and bottom-five downside. He may have the widest range of possible outcomes of all starting quarterbacks this week.

At least he didn't turn the ball over, adding four yards and two carries and fumbling twice, but seeing the Eagles recover both times. Wentz couldn't get anything going in the passing game in this one, despite a Giants Defense that hasn't given other quarterbacks too many issues. Wentz and the Eagles take on the Browns next week, where Wentz won't be much more than an unexciting QB2.

  • Carson Wentz Could Be Set Up For A Solid Week 10

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz hasn't been his usual self this season and has saved some of his fantasy performances by scoring touchdowns on the ground. He's looked off in the passing game in almost every contest this season, completing 58% or fewer of his passes in five of his eight starts this year. He's also leading the league in sacks, hitting the ground in 9.1% of his drop backs. He had his second-biggest game of the season against the Giants Defense though, and he gets to take them on again in Week 10, this time with the pass catchers around him finally starting to get healthy. He'll reportedly have Alshon Jeffery back and Dallas Goedert at least close to full strength. While Wentz still can't be fully trusted, he is sneaking his way back into the lower tier of the QB1 ranks, at least when he has a good matchup like this one.

  • Eagles Committed To Carson Wentz

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he didn't consider replacing quarterback Carson Wentz with rookie Jalen Hurts during the Sunday night win over the Cowboys in Week 8. Wentz turned the ball over four times and finished 15-for-27 for just 123 yards and two touchdowns in the 23-9 win. "Carson is our starter, and we've got a lot of trust and faith in him that he can get the job done," Pederson said. Wentz is on pace for the worst statistical season of his career and he leads the league in turnovers (16), interceptions (12) and sacks (32). He's 31st in completion percentage (58.4) and 29th in yards per attempt (6.1). In his defense, he hasn't had a ton to work with in an offense hit with lots of injuries, but Wentz has showed a mixture of brilliant plays and head-scratching decisions while trying to do too much at times. He'll be a QB2 with upside when the Eagles return from their Week 9 bye to face the Giants in Week 10.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz wasn't great in Week 8, but he was good enough to beat the Cowboys and fall backwards into first place in the NFC East. Wentz completed 15 of his 27 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. He threw two interceptions and lost two fumbles in an ugly four turnover game. Wentz added 17 yards on the ground on four carries. Wentz struggled throwing the ball deep against a Cowboys secondary that essentially no one else has struggled against this season. Both of his touchdowns were on short passes into the end zone, one to rookie Jalen Reagor for two yards and one to Travis Fulgham for nine yards. Wentz has thrown a dozen touchdowns in 2020 to go with his dozen interceptions. The Eagles will be on a bye week in Week 9.

  • Carson Wentz Sneaks Into The QB1 Rankings For Week 8

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz hasn't been as good on the field as most people expected this season, but he's still the seventh overall fantasy quarterback in standard scoring and has been third in the past three games. He's somewhat quietly having one of those better-in-fantasy-than-in-real-life seasons. He's been mostly buoyed by his rushing stats, but he's averaging close to 26 fantasy points per game over the past three games. Taking on a Cowboys Defense that can't stop anyone or anything, Wentz should be primed for a big game in Week 8.
