Trevor Siemian Won't Be Active In Week 4

New York Jets quarterback Trevor Siemian, who was signed to the practice squad on Tuesday, will be inactive in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night, according to head coach Robert Saleh. Saleh knows that Siemian is a fast learner, but he will not say how long it will take before he's ready to play. For most Jets fans and apparently some of the players, New York can't replace the struggling Zach Wilson fast enough. Wilson will probably be playing for his starting spot this weekend in a tough matchup against the defending Super Bowl-champion Chiefs. Siemian, 31, has started 30 NFL games in six NFL seasons, but he hasn't won a game since 2017 and won't necessarily be an upgrade over Wilson or Tim Boyle, the other signal-caller on the Jets' roster.

Jets Officially Add Trevor Siemian

The New York Jets signed veteran free-agent quarterback Trevor Siemian to their practice squad on Tuesday, according to the team. Siemian was released by the Cincinnati Bengals in the preseason and will join Zach Wilson and Tim Boyle in the team's QB room after future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the first offensive series of the year. Wilson will make another start in Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but Siemian gives the Jets another QB with starting experience in case Wilson continues to struggle. With Wilson under center, the offense has generated only three touchdowns in nearly three full games. Siemian is 13-17 in his career with 42 TDSs and 28 interceptions, and he hasn't won a start since 2017.

Free-agent quarterback Trevor Siemian is visiting the New York Jets on Tuesday. If everything goes well with his physical, he is expected to join the team's practice squad in short order. After Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) was lost for the season in Week 1, Zach Wilson has struggled mightily in his third season as the team's starter. The BYU product has completed under 53% of his passes for 467 yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions in three games. Tim Boyle is currently listed as his backup, but Siemian, who has 30 games of starting experience, could eventually find himself in the starting quarterback role this season.

Bengals Release Trevor Siemian

The Cincinnati Bengals released quarterback Trevor Siemian on Tuesday after the team officially named Jake Browning as the backup to starter Joe Burrow. Siemian lost the backup QB battle to Browning by completing only 55.4 percent of his pass attempts during the preseason for 316 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. The veteran should be able to latch on with another team looking for an experienced backup option. Behind Browning in Cincinnati, the Bengals also have Reid Sinnett as their No. 3. The 31-year-old Siemian was a seventh-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2015 out of Northwestern and spent the first three years of his career in Denver before bouncing around to New York, New Orleans and Chicago.

Jake Browning Throws A Touchdown On Saturday Night

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning finished Saturday's preseason loss to the Commanders by throwing for 42 yards. He also completed all six of his passing attempts, and, unlike Trevor Siemian, he threw a touchdown, finding Andrei Iosivas with a seven-yard throw near the end of the first quarter. The 27-year-old entered training camp as the presumed No. 3 signal-caller on the depth chart. However, considering he's played better than Siemian this preseason, at least in some areas, it appears Zac Taylor has some decisions to make heading into the Week 1 opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Trevor Siemian finished Saturday's preseason meeting against the Washington Commanders by throwing for 133 yards. While Reid Sinnett and Jake Browning each tossed a touchdown in this one, Siemian couldn't get anything going, and it showed, as he threw an interception and completed only 60.7% of his attempts. The 2015 seventh-round pick was signed by the Bengals this offseason and was the favorite to back up Joe Burrow (calf) during the year. However, with Browning looking more productive in the Bengals' exhibition games, Siemian is no longer a lock to claim the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Nevertheless, the duel between Siemian and Browning wouldn't mean much under usual circumstances.
