Mike's Thoughts: An aggressive redraft rank if the 49ers decide to slow play Lance behind the veteran Garoppolo, because they otherwise have a very competitive team. I don't think that will happen. Even if they are winning games early they could turn the reigns over to Lance if he is outplaying JimmyG in practice. Drafted Lance 14.07 (163) in a 1QB 12-team PPR on 8/15.

25 Justin Fields, CHI 10 22.5 11.05

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields will start the first training camp of his NFL career with a boatload of expectations. The Bears traded up in this year's draft to take Fields at number 11 and is competing with veteran Andy Dalton for the starting job. Fields may start the season as the backup but already is earning national praise and some lofty comparisons. ESPN analyst recently described Fields as "a bigger, stronger and faster Dak Prescott". If the talented passer can reach those heights, Bears fans may finally get what they've never had; a franchise quarterback. Fields will be an excellent dynasty/keeper player and a late-round stash in standard formats who could become a quality fantasy starter by season's end. (Jul 27, )

  • Jameis Winston Intercepted Twice In Ugly Loss

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston completed 11 of 22 passes for 111 yards, a rushing score, and two interceptions in Sunday's 26-7 loss to Carolina. Winston struggled all day against the Panthers' underrated defense, which chased him for four sacks and the two picks. The gunslinger didn't have much time to look downfield, as he was pressured on 18 of his 28 dropbacks, though he didn't do himself any favors. Winston and the Saints are better than what they showed in Week 2- but it won't get any easier in Week 3 against Bill Belichick and the Patriots defense.

  • Jameis Winston A Low-End QB1 Against Panthers

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston draws a favorable matchup in Week 2 against the Panthers as he attempts to follow up his five-touchdown performance from Week 1. Winston diced up the Packers secondary, a unit that allowed the fifth-fewest fantasy points per game to signal-callers, for five scores, adding 37 yards with his legs, and will get to face a Carolina defense that surrendered the eighth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks in 2020. It's tough to completely trust the former number-one overall pick for fantasy purposes given his turnover-filled past, though there's a chance that head coach Sean Payton has already helped Winston find a better version of himself. Fantasy managers can turn to Winston for low-end QB1 production in Week 2.

  • Jameis Winston Tosses Five Touchdowns

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston went 14-for-20 for 148 yards and five touchdowns in Sunday's dominating win over the Packers. Winston looked sharp in his first regular-season action since 2019. The QB who is normally known for picks went flawless in that department and that was an encouraging start to his Saints debut. As long as Winston can make the most of the team's limited weapons, he should certainly remain in the fantasy conversation, though not as a weekly starter until we see a bigger sample size in which he performs well. Up next is a matchup against the division rival Panthers.

  • Jameis Winston Draws Tough Matchup In Week 1

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston draws a tough matchup from the get-go against the Packers in Week 1 in Jacksonville. Winston won the starting QB job over Taysom Hill this preseason and will now aim to prove he's the right fit for the Saints for the coming years. The QB last started with the Bucs in 2019 where he infamously threw for 30 touchdowns and 30 picks. This time around, he won't have too many reliable weapons as Michael Thomas is out for the beginning of the season after ankle surgery in June. The Packers allowed the fourth-fewest points to QBs last season, so Winston is better left on the bench for this week.

  • Can Packers Defense Create Week 1 Turnovers?

The Green Bay Packers defense will take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 1. The Packers defense finished off last season playing excellent football, allowing only three passing touchdowns with four interceptions over their final six games. The Saints were very strong last season in regards to limiting turnovers and dishing out fantasy points to opposing defenses. But now they have Jameis Winston under center and the last time Winston was a full-time starter he threw 30 interceptions. The Packers will have to stop the run to be successful in Week 1 but have top-10 potential as a defense if they can create some turnovers.

  • Jameis Winston Named Saints Starting QB

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has been named the team's starting QB for the regular-season opener against the Green Bay Packers. He's impressed this preseason, completing 16-for-22 passes for 219 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception through two games, including a 43-yard touchdown bomb to wide receiver Marquez Callaway. The former No.1 overall pick beat out Taysom Hill for the Saints starting quarterback job in training camp. Hill will be used as a gadget player and could steal red zone opportunities away from Winston. The 27-year-old is a borderline QB2, but the Saints are not deep at wide receiver, and he will be without his top wideout Michael Thomas (ankle) for the first couple of months of the season. Winston is currently going as QB30 in FFPC leagues, but expect that number to rise with the latest news.

  • Jameis Winston The Favorite To Start For Saints

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston has emerged as the favorite to win the starting QB job after another strong showing in the preseason win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night. Winston had a couple highlight-reel throws on Monday night and can complete the type of throws that now-retired QB Drew Brees was unable to make in the last couple of seasons. Head coach Sean Payton has declined to officially name Winston as the starter, but it seems that it's headed that way. With Winston as the starter, New Orleans can keep Taysom Hill in his typical gadget role in the offense as well. Winston completed nine of his 10 passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns on Monday night, including a 43-yard touchdown bomb to Marquez Callaway. The 27-year-old has a big arm, but the Saints don't have many reliable pass-catchers outside of Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara, and Winston has been extremely turnover-prone in his career. In the right matchups, he'll be an attractive streamer, but Winston should be drafted as a midrange QB2, at best, if he wins the job.

  • Jameis Winston Throws Two Touchdowns

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston finished Monday's win over the Jaguars by going 9 of 10 for 123 yards and two touchdowns. This was a much better showing for the former Buccaneer, who last week only managed 96 yards, one touchdown, and one pick. Nevertheless, the guy who he is competing with for the starting job, Taysom Hill, also had a better showing on Monday compared to last week. Winston will need to perform well in Saturday's preseason finale against the Cardinals to have an edge over Hill for the starting job.

  • Saints Hope To Name Starting QB This Week

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said he'd like to name a starting quarterback between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill by the preseason finale this Saturday against the Arizona Cardinals. Winston received the start against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night, with Hill getting the start in last week's loss to the Baltimore Ravens. So far in camp, Hill has gone 134-for-205 (65.37 percent) with four touchdowns and six interceptions during team drills, while Winston has gone 146-for-220 (66.36 percent) with nine TDs and four interceptions. A lot is riding on the preseason game against the Jaguars. Winston probably would need to melt down to lose the QB competition, while the Saints might prefer to keep using Hill as more of a gadget player. Winston could have intriguing upside in New Orleans, but he should be considered nothing more than a QB2 in superflex leagues with his leash being short if he wins the job.

  • Jameis Winston To Start Against Jaguars

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will get the start during Monday's preseason matchup against the Jaguars. Winston and fellow signal-caller, Taysom Hill, continue to battle for the coveted No. 1 spot on the depth chart. However, it appears neither man has done enough to make head coach Sean Payton's decision any easier heading into Week 1. Nonetheless, regardless of who gets the job, they will have big shoes to fill after the legendary Drew Brees, who spent most of his 20-year career in The Big Easy, retired during the offseason. Fantasy managers in deeper, Superflex formats should look elsewhere to fill the void at the position, primarily with the Saints dealing with injuries across the roster.

  • Jameis Winston Has Strong Day Monday

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston turned in a strong performance during Monday's practice. Working with the first-string offense, Winston connected on 6 of 8 passing attempts, firing touchdowns to Deonte Harris and Marquez Callaway. It's been a tight quarterback competition in New Orleans, partly due to the Saints' limited receiver depth, though Monday marked perhaps one of Winston's best days- and one of Hill's shakiest. Preseason action will go a long way towards deciding who emerges as the Week 1 starter- though the former Buccaneer would seem to have the greater passing upside, having thrown for 5,109 yards, 33 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions as recently as 2019, leading to a QB4 fantasy finish. If anointed the starter, Winston would make for a solid, late-round choice in 2QB formats.

  • Taysom Hill, Jameis Winston Continue To Swap Reps

It appears we're in for a real quarterback competition in New Orleans, with Saints head coach Sean Payton saying that Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill will swap reps daily as the first-team QB. Winston's received the most praise so far in camp, but Hill's still a clear threat to Winston in the battle for the starting role. For fantasy purposes, both players have upside if they win the job, but both also come with one clear downside: the possibility that the Saints wind up using both guys under center during the regular season. NFL teams don't use committee approaches at the position, but we all know how much Payton loves to put Hill in the game.

  • Jameis Winston Looking Sharp Early In Training Camp

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston performed at a high level during the team's Thursday practice. Winston is competing with Taysom Hill for the starting job, and at this point, there isn't clarity on who is leading the competition. Winston's performance early in camp should help, however, as Larry Holder noted that he "certainly looked the sharpest of the QBs with Day 1 in the books." In the past Winston has been a great fantasy option due to his gunslinger style of play, so he would have significant upside if he wins the job outright. Due to the possibility that Winston fails to earn the job or splits time with Taysom Hill, he should be considered a boom/bust QB3 going into 2021, with a chance for that to rise if he wins the job outright.

  • Jameis Winston Aims To Be NFL Starter Once Again

New Orleans Saints quarterback Jameis Winston will now compete for the starting job on the team after longtime starter Drew Brees called it a career this past offseason. Winston joined New Orleans last year as a backup and only managed 75 passing yards in four games played. The former first overall pick played five seasons with Tampa prior to 2020 and his most recent campaign in 2019 saw him notoriously get 33 passing touchdowns and 30 interceptions. Nevertheless, the QB did also post a career-high 5,109 passing yards that season and he can be a solid starter in 2021 if he develops consistency and cuts down on the turnovers. If Winston does end up being the starter, he would be in the QB2 tier.

  • Ryan Ramczyk Receives Big Five-Year Extension

The New Orleans Saints signed All-Pro right tackle Ryan Ramczyk to a five-year, $96 million contract extension on Wednesday, according to sources. Ramczyk will receive $19.2 million per season. The deal will take him through the 2026 season and will make him the new highest-paid right tackle in the league. The 27-year-old was an All-Pro in 2019 and has missed just one regular season game in 2018 in his four seasons with the Saints. New Orleans' offensive line is in good hands for the next five years on the right side, and Ramczyk will make life easier for whoever wins the quarterback job between Jameis Winston and Taysom Hill, not to mention running back Alvin Kamara.
