  • Jerick McKinnon Seeks To Gain Momentum In Plus Draw

    Headshot for Jerick McKinnon

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon remained without a meaningful role in Week 2, scraping up three catches for 28 yards in a favorable matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 31-year-old will look to recapture some semblance of his 2022 late-season magic in Week 3 versus the Chicago Bears, who have witnessed fellow pass-catching tailbacks Aaron Jones and Rachaad White combine for a 7/116/1 receiving line out of the backfield during the season's initial two outings. McKinnon could be pushed into a larger role if Isiah Pacheco (hamstring) is out or limited in this one, ultimately setting him up along the RB3/4 boundary ahead of Sunday's affair. McKinnon will be difficult to trust if Pacheco is active, but the matchup is close to ideal for fantasy managers needing a stopgap solution in PPR-heavy formats.

  • Jerick McKinnon Plays Minor Role Again In Week 2 Win

    Headshot for Jerick McKinnon

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon came down with all three of his targets for 24 yards and lost two yards on his lone rush attempt in the Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 31-year-old's first reception, an 11-yarder, stemmed from soft coverage on third-and-20. That was essentially McKinnon's highlight of the day, and his two opening performances are a far cry from what he was providing down the stretch of 2022. Sunday's matchup came off as a promising one after the Jags poured out RB receiving production last year, but there was no dice for the pass-catching specialist on Sunday. K.C. has not yet spent enough time in goal-to-gos to gauge which of their three backs will consistently see the lion's share of those touches, but Isiah Pacheco may have pulled away a bit in garnering that treatment with 70 yards in this one.

  • Jerick McKinnon - Week 2 Outlook for Fantasy Football

    Headshot for Jerick McKinnon

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon was virtually invisible in a Week 1 loss, posting a lone catch on two targets for 10 yards. It was noteworthy, however, that the 31-year-old played on the bulk of Kansas City's third downs and goal-to-go situations in the season opener. This usage seemingly positions McKinnon as the backfield's best bet to hit paydirt in a Week 2 game that could feature plenty of points. Additionally, the Jacksonville Jaguars defense surrendered the second-most catches (104) and third-most receiving yards (787) to RBs in 2022. While the pass-catching McKinnon appears to have the edge on running mates Isiah Pacheco and Clyde Edwards-Helairefor high-value touches, it's remiss to place him anywhere higher than on the RB3/4 borderline until his overall opportunity climbs after seeing only 20 snaps last Thursday.

  • Jerick McKinnon Disappears In Thursday's Loss

    Headshot for Jerick McKinnon

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon hauled in a 10-yard pass in Thursday's 21-20 loss to the Detroit Lions. Any hope for the 31-year-old handling additional opportunity sans Travis Kelce (knee) never quite came to fruition in the season opener. McKinnon was mostly invisible after his first-quarter reception, but he at least took more snaps (31%) than starter Clyde Edwards-Helaire (23%). Week 1 usage suggests KC's backfield is at risk of devolving into a three-man committee, rendering the pass-catching McKinnon a hit-or-miss, PPR-specific RB3 choice with no rushing floor in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

  • Offseason In Review: Kansas City Chiefs

    Headshot for Felix Anudike-Uzomah

As partially chronicled on Netflix, the Chiefs secured their second Super Bowl championship in four seasons. Patrick Mahomes is now 3-for-5 in Super Bowl appearances as a starter and is the first quarterback since Otto Graham (1950-55) to begin an NFL career with five straight conference championship games. The two-time MVP gutted through a high […]

  • Jerick McKinnon Hopes To Build On Strong End To 2022

    Headshot for Jerick McKinnon

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon joined backfield mate Isiah Pacheco on a second-half surge in 2022. In KC's 10-1 hot streak to end the regular season, McKinnon piled up 45 receptions for 432 yards and an additional 45 carries for 182 yards with nine touchdowns across this interval as a fantasy league-winner. But after the Detroit Lions gave up the fewest targets (69) and second-lowest receiving yards (372) to RBs a season ago, the 31-year-old likely belongs on the RB3/4 borderline for Week 1 with a substantial boost in PPR formats. The Chiefs could be playing with a lead on Thursday, which would be a setup perhaps more conducive to Pacheco's skill set. KC could also lean more on the running game if superstar tight end Travis Kelce (knee) cannot go, and McKinnon would likely absorb more targets underneath and in checkdown scenarios if this is the case.

  • Isiah Pacheco Says He'll "Absolutely" Be 100 Per Cent For Week 1

    Headshot for Jerick McKinnon

Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco (hand, shoulder) said he feels great and is taking it one day at a time with the coaching staff at training camp. He also said he will "absolutely" be 100 percent by Week 1 of the regular season against the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs haven't put Pacheco on the Physically Unable to Perform list yet, but he has been in a non-contact jersey so far this week after having surgery on his hand and shoulder in the offseason. As long as the 24-year-old second-year back is healthy heading into Week 1, he should operate as KC's primary back after becoming the starter in 2022, but he'll share valuable pass-catching work with third-down back Jerick McKinnon. For now, consider him a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in fantasy.
