  • Latavius Murray Playing Notable Role Ahead Of Week 3

    Headshot for Latavius Murray

Buffalo Bills running back Latavius Murray seems to have usurped Damien Harris as the team's No. 2 tailback behind James Cook through the opening two weeks of play. The 33-year-old has surprisingly out-snapped Harris in consecutive outings, and he was even seen participating in two-minute drills in Week 2's romping of the Las Vegas Raiders. Murray has also unexpectedly led the backfield in red-zone touches (five), putting a frustrating damper on Cook's ceiling potential in the early goings. As it appears, Buffalo exhibits more trust in the power backs, Murray and Harris, on the goal line than Cook at this interval of the year, so Murray's usage is worth monitoring moving ahead. As far as Week 3 against the Washington Commanders goes, the veteran journeyman is a last-gasp RB4 at best with extreme touchdown dependency.

  • Latavius Murray Punches In Touchdown In Blowout Win

    Headshot for Latavius Murray

Buffalo Bills running back Latavius Murray was third on the team in carries behind James Cook and Damien Harris in the 38-10 blowout victory over the visiting Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2 on Sunday, but he did score his first touchdown of the 2023 season. Murray finished with six carries for 22 yards (3.7 yards per carry) and also caught both of his targets for nine yards. Murray finished with one more touch than Harris and played 23 percent of the offensive snaps compared to Harris' 18 percent. The 33-year-old veteran was often on the field with the Bills near the goal line, a trend that could continue the rest of the way. Murray won't have a consistent role in Buffalo's backfield as long as Cook is healthy, making him a touchdown-dependent RB4/flex in deeper fantasy leagues.

  • Offseason In Review: Buffalo Bills

    Headshot for Josh Allen

The preseason favorites last season endured major injury problems and saw a frightening scene alter their playoff route. Rather than earning a first-round bye, the Bills saw the Damar Hamlin sequence lead to a postponement-turned-cancellation and a No. 2 seed. Buffalo’s poor showing as the second seed exposed some foundational cracks, and the team spent […]

  • Bills To Sign RB Ty Johnson

    Headshot for Damien Harris

The Bills are thin at offensive tackle at the moment, but they are still tinkering with other areas of their roster. That will include a depth addition to their backfield. Buffalo is set to sign running back Ty Johnson, reports ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler (Twitter link). The deal will allow Johnson to remain in the AFC East […]

  • Latest On Bills' RB Situation

    Headshot for James Cook

The season-ending injury suffered by Nyheim Hines last month left the Bills shorthanded in the backfield. His absence has led to increased clarity with respect to who should make the team’s 53-man roster, though, along with the pecking order at the position. James Cook was already in line to handle starting duties with Devin Singletary having departed in free agency, […]

  • Latavius Murray Busy In Second Quarter Saturday

    Headshot for Latavius Murray

Buffalo Bills running back Latavius Murray rushed five times for 18 yards and caught all three of his targets for 21 yards in Saturday's 23-19 preseason win over the Indianapolis Colts. The 33-year-old was featured for seven of his eight touches during the second quarter, providing pedestrian returns. Murray saw his action come after James Cook exited, and perhaps the Bills are looking to see what the incumbent veteran has left in the tank. Murray doesn't begin 2023 on the fantasy radar as anything more than a low-upside handcuff. He perhaps projects to make more of an impact as a possible goal-line vulture to Cook and Damien Harris (knee) than anything else, if Murray makes the Week 1 roster.

  • Damien Harris, Latavius Murray Competing In Short-Yardage Situations

    Headshot for Latavius Murray

Buffalo Bills running backs Damien Harris and Latavius Murray have been competing at training camp in short-yardage situations. Murray remains the more accomplished and better receiver of the two backups to James Cook, but Harris has consistently been the second back to get snaps after Cook throughout training camp. It will be interesting to see where the competition goes during the preseason, given that Murray is the more productive pass-catcher and has shown short-yardage ability. The Bills could go back and forth between Harris and Murray behind Cook, which will make it hard to endorse either back as an RB4/flex in fantasy drafts. If we had to pick, we'd favor the 26-year-old Harris.

  • Bills RBs Nyheim Hines, Latavius Murray Battling For Roster Spot?

    Headshot for James Cook

The Bills rushing attack will look a bit different in 2023. Devin Singletary is gone, having left via free agency to the Texans. The front office added former Patriots starter Damien Harris to the mix, although he profiles as more of an RB2 since the organization is ready to go all-in on 2022 second-round pick […]

Competition should take place along the Bills’ offensive front in training camp, but the three-time reigning AFC East champions might not be planning many changes to this unit.
