Fantasy Advice

Number one tight end, no question. Well, if we were going to question then it would be Kelce's age and whether he can keep doing what he's doing. There are no signs of a slow down yet. Tony Gonzalez played until he was 37. But let's talk draft cost. Expensive. I don't see paying a Top 6 pick for a tight end and setting yourself back at RB or WR. Let someone else play catch up if they take Kelce at that price. I definitely want a strong TE on my roster, but others come so much cheaper, you're better off fading Kelce, even as good as he is.

  • Travis Kelce Caps Off Blowout With Touchdown Catch

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce caught 7-of-8 targets for 69 yards and a touchdown in Week 3's 41-10 smackdown of the Chicago Bears. The 33-year-old was just out of arm's reach on a potential first-quarter touchdown after a pass glanced off his fingertips in the back of the end zone. But Kelce was able to shake a defender for some open space on a similar route for a short score later during the third period, much to the delight of fantasy managers, and even Taylor Swift from an Arrowhead Stadium suite. This one got ugly in a hurry, diminishing the overall upside of all K.C. skill positions with a commanding 34-0 lead at halftime, but Kelce managed a satisfying fantasy afternoon before the Chiefs sat on the ball. The four-time All-Pro will likely be in a tier by himself among Week 4 TE1 plays once again on Sunday Night Football against the stumbling New York Jets.

  • Travis Kelce Aims To Dominate Vulnerable Chicago Defense

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce will look to jump-start his season after missing Week 1 with a hyperextended knee and producing a passable 4/29/1 receiving line on nine targets in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 33-year-old could be in position to impose himself in Week 3's opportunity versus the 0-2 Chicago Bears, who have already let unproven names Luke Musgrave and Cade Otton catch a combined 9-of-10 passes for 91 yards over the season's first two games. Chicago's defense does feature a solid linebacker combination of Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards, but neither are known for their coverage skills and should have their hands full dealing with Kelce. After commanding nine targets (four in the red zone) on just 25 Week 2 routes, the four-time All-Pro is the no-brainer top TE1 play on a Week 3 slate where the Chiefs project to score more points than any other squad.

  • Travis Kelce Saves Day With Touchdown In Return

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce caught 4-of-9 targets for 26 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 17-9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 33-year-old, ticketed for a "pitch count" in his 2023 debut, was surprisingly uninvolved in the first half for one seven-yard catch on two targets when the Chiefs could have used a boost. Kelce played the majority of the first-half snaps, but subbed out more frequently than usual. The superstar made a nice move to find some space for a nine-yard score, though, to complete an impressive Chiefs scoring drive to start the second half. Fantasy managers should be satisfied with the outcome, considering Kelce was not present for his customary quota of snaps, and better days are ahead for the four-time All-Pro. Those may arrive as soon as Week 3's smash spot at home versus the 0-2 Chicago Bears, who have yielded productive outings to Luke Musgrave and Cade Otton in the initial two weeks.

  • Travis Kelce Officially Listed As Questionable

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) was limited in practice all week and is officially listed as questionable to make his 2023 debut in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Despite the questionable tag, Kelce looked really good in practice this week after sitting out last Thursday's Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions and he's fully expected to play this Sunday. The 33-year-old All-Pro suffered a bone bruise in his right knee when he hyperextended his knee in practice last Thursday, but it's not a long-term injury and fantasy managers should have him in their starting lineups against Jacksonville. There's a chance Kelce could be on somewhat of a snap count this weekend, but he's always a must-start if he's active.

  • Travis Kelce Will Make Season Debut Sunday

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) will make his 2023 season debut in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday. Kelce suffered a hyperextended knee in last Tuesday's practice and was held out of the Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions last Thursday night as a precaution. He's been limited in practices this week, but apparently he showed the coaching staff enough to gain clearance to play this weekend as the defending Super Bowl champions look to get into the win column for the first time. The 33-year-old could have some limitations in terms of his snap count coming off his knee injury, but now that he's active, his fantasy managers can lock the All-Pro tight end into a starting lineup spot for Week 2.

  • Travis Kelce's Week 2 Status Up In The Air

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy said that tight end Travis Kelce (knee) looked good during a limited practice on Wednesday, but head coach Andy Reid and general manager Brett Veach will make the final call on whether Kelce plays in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Nagy said the team has prepared game plans for if Kelce plays and if he doesn't. The 33-year-old All-Pro was inactive in last Thursday night's loss to the Detroit Lions and he seems truly questionable to play again this week. Kelce is a no-brainer must-start if he plays, but if he misses a second straight game, Noah Gray will again serve as the No. 1 tight end. There will also be added targets for receivers like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney and Justin Watson, among others.

  • Travis Kelce To Practice In Limited Fashion Wednesday

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) will practice in a limited capacity on Wednesday, according to head coach Andy Reid, who said Kelce has "made progress." Kelce was inactive in the Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions last Thursday night due to a bone bruise he suffered in practice last Tuesday when he hyperextended his knee. The 33-year-old All-Pro appears to have a pretty good shot at making his 2023 debut in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, but we'll have a better idea on his availability later this week. If Kelce is active, he's an obvious must-start in all fantasy lineups as the best tight end in the league. If he misses a second straight game, Noah Gray will once again have an expanded role in the passing game.

  • Chiefs Hopeful Travis Kelce Returns In Week 2

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

NBC's Melissa Stark reported during the broadcast of Thursday night's season opener that the Kansas City Chiefs are "optimistic" tight end Travis Kelce (knee) returns for Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 34-year-old struggled to show "power" on Thursday morning in a pool session, so there just wasn't enough time for him to heal after suffering the hyperextended knee on Tuesday. Kelce has some extra time to get right, though, for next Sunday's contest with 10 days until then. The four-time All-Pro's practice status should be one of the biggest storylines heading into the Week 2 slate.

  • Travis Kelce Out for Week 1 Matchup Against Detroit

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) will miss tonight's game against the Detroit Lions after suffering a bone bruise in practice on Tuesday. The superstar tight end will miss his first game because of an injury since his rookie year. While fantasy players are unhappy to hear Kelce will miss tonight's contest, it is the best outcome in the long run. The Chiefs don't play again until September 10, giving the superstar 10 days to heal for the matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Noah Gray will start for Kelce tonight. However, fantasy players can find a better replacement option off the waiver wire. Potential options include Tyler Higbee, Juwan Johnson, and Sam LaPorta.

  • Travis Kelce To Test Out Knee This Morning

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce plans to test out his knee during a workout this morning to see how it responds. If all goes well, the star will then be on the field during pregame warmups against the Detroit Lions. According to the report, Kelce is pushing to play but the team wants to be smart with him. The eight-time Pro Bowler hyperextended his knee during practice on Tuesday and has been labeled as questionable on the team's official injury report. If he's unable to play, Noah Gray will likely get the start, with Blake Bell serving as the second option.

  • Travis Kelce Officially Questionable For Thursday Night

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) did not practice on Wednesday and is officially listed as questionable to play in the 2023 regular season opener on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. Kelce hyperextended his knee in practice on Tuesday, and the Chiefs have ruled out a long-term injury, but it doesn't mean the 33-year-old All-Pro will suit up to kick off the season. Fantasy managers will have to check back to see if Kelce is active on Thursday night, and this could be a game-time decision for the Chiefs. If he's limited or out altogether, Noah Gray would be KC's top pass-catching tight end. In the receiving corps, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Skyy Moore and Justin Watson could be the best bets for big games against Detroit with the Chiefs likely easing Kadarius Toney (knee) in.

  • Bone Bruise For Travis Kelce

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) is working on getting the swelling down in his knee so he's able to suit up in Thursday night's season opener. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport calls the diagnosis a bone bruise, noting that his ligaments are all intact. On a Philadelphia radio show, Eagles center Jason Kelce (Travis' brother) noted that he thinks Travis will play as long as the swelling subsides. Expect a questionable tag for the perennial Pro Bowler on the final injury report today. If Kelce is unable to give it a go, Noah Gray would likely get the start in his place.

  • Travis Kelce's ACL Is Intact

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

After tests on Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs believe that tight end Travis Kelce's (knee) ACL is intact, according to a source. Kelce is dealing with inflammation in his knee, though, and the team will test it again on Wednesday to determine his availability for the regular season opener on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions. By all indications, Kelce has avoided a long-term injury, but he could still be held out of Week 1 or be limited. Fantasy managers that selected Kelce in the first round of their drafts must have a backup plan ready in case he's ruled out this week. Expect him to be listed as questionable on the final injury report on Wednesday. If Kelce is out or limited on Thursday, Noah Gray will likely be the team's top pass-catching tight end.

  • Travis Kelce In Doubt For Thursday But Injury Not Considered Long-Term

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce's (knee) status is in doubt for the regular season opener on Thursday night against the Detroit Lions because of a hyperextended knee he suffered in practice, but sources are saying it's not believed to be a long-term injury. The Chiefs will wait for the swelling to go down and go from there. Kelce is being considered questionable for Week 1, but he was also listed as limited on Tuesday's official injury report. The 33-year-old All-Pro may not play at all this week as a precaution or he could be limited in his reps, so fantasy managers must have a backup plan ready just in case. If Kelce is inactive or limited on Thursday, Noah Gray would serve as KC's top pass-catching tight end against Detroit.

  • Travis Kelce Suffers Knee Injury On Tuesday

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce (knee) reportedly hyper-extended his knee during Tuesday's practice. Head coach Andy Reid said his status for the Week 1 opener against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night is uncertain. His absence would be a huge blow for fantasy managers who have drafted him as early as the No. 1 overall pick in tight end premium leagues. He's been at least a mid-first-rounder in all formats. If he's out, Skyy Moore, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney (knee), Noah Gray, and Jerick McKinnon are all candidates to see more targets.

  • Travis Kelce Gets Loose For 20-Yard Catch Saturday

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce caught one pass on two targets for 20 yards in Saturday's 38-10 preseason win over the Arizona Cardinals. After only playing a handful of snaps in the preseason opener, the perennial Pro Bowler got his name in the box score for this one. Kelce came open for a 20-yard play after Patrick Mahomes was flushed out of the pocket in the opening period. In what could have been Kansas City's tune-up game for the first-team offense, there's a chance we don't see Kelce next week versus the Cleveland Browns. It remains to be seen if Father Time catches up to Kelce in his age-34 campaign, but that caveat doesn't displace the four-time All-Pro from a class of his own among fantasy tight ends this summer.

  • Travis Kelce To Play In Preseason Opener

    Headshot for Travis Kelce

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is expected to play during Sunday's preseason opener versus the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Andy Reid said the starters are in line to play about a quarter on Sunday. However, that doesn't mean Kelce is going to play the entire first quarter. The superstar tight end is extremely important to this offense, so the Chiefs don't want to risk an injury in an exhibition game. The 33-year-old should remain the No. 1 fantasy tight end as he continues to show no signs of slowing down.
