  • 49ers Considering Zach Ertz Pursuit?

    Headshot for Ross Dwelley

It sounds like a new suitor could be emerging in the Zach Ertz sweepstakes. When asked about the 49ers interest in the free agent tight end, coach Kyle Shanahan indicated that GM John Lynch has looked into a potential signing. On the flip side, Shanahan also acknowledged that he doesn’t expect a deal to materialize. […]

  • Ravens Not Considering Zach Ertz

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

When asked about whether the team would consider adding free-agent tight end Zach Ertz, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said, "We like our tight ends. I think right now we'll roll with those guys." Mark Andrews (ankle) is expected to miss the rest of the season, but the Ravens are comfortable using second-year tight end Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar to replace him the rest of the season. Ertz was released by the Arizona Cardinals last week and is free to sign with any team. The veteran tight end wants to go somewhere he can win another Super Bowl ring, with the Bills, Chiefs and Eagles seemingly his best options. Philly makes the most sense given Dallas Goedert's (forearm) injury and the fact that Ertz began his career with the Eagles.

  • Eagles Expected To Have Interest In Zach Ertz

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to have interest in free-agent tight end Zach Ertz. The Arizona Cardinals cut him after he requested his release this week, and he officially cleared waivers on Friday, so he can now sign with any team on the open market. The 33-year-old veteran hasn't played since Week 7 due to a quadriceps injury but he should be able to play down the stretch and wants a shot at another Super Bowl ring. It would be a reunion for both sides, as Ertz played the first nine seasons of his career in Philadelphia. Starting tight end Dallas Goedert is getting close to returning from a fractured forearm he suffered in Week 9, so the Eagles wouldn't be the best landing spot for Ertz in terms of fantasy potential to end the 2023 season.

  • Zach Ertz Clears Waivers, Becomes Free Agent

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Former Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz (quadricep) cleared waivers on Friday afternoon. He is officially a free agent and can sign with any team. The 33-year-old showed flashes of high-level play earlier this season, catching 27 passes for 187 yards and one touchdown. Ertz's intention is to join a contender, and teams like the Eagles, Ravens, or Chiefs represent potential landing spots. Of the three, Baltimore gives Ertz the only opportunity to be a starter again, though it seems like he's chasing a ring more than a starting role. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on his free agency but can leave him on waivers for now.

Entering Thursday on the Cardinals’ injured reserve, Zach Ertz will see his three-season tenure with the team come to a surprising end. • Cardinals Releasing Zach Ertz

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

The Arizona Cardinals are releasing tight end Zach Ertz (quadriceps), according to a source. Ertz asked for his released and was granted it in order to have a chance to play for a contender the rest of the year. The 33-year-old veteran tight end hasn't played since getting injured in Week 7 and remains on Injured Reserve. Not only is this good news for ascending Cardinals tight end Trey McBride, but it's also good news for any fantasy managers stashing Ertz in deeper leagues with hopes that he might be able to produce meaningful numbers when he returns from IR. It will all depend on where Ertz lands and how quickly he can get up to speed with a new playbook late in the season.

  • Zach Ertz Going On Injured Reserve

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

The Arizona Cardinals are placing three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz (quadriceps) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday with a quadriceps strain that he suffered in the Week 7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, according to sources. Ertz will now miss at least four games, but the plan is for him to return this year. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues with an IR spot available can look to stash the 32-year-old veteran, but if you have other needs, don't feel compelled to hang onto him. Ertz has 27 receptions on 43 targets for 187 yards and one touchdown through seven games in 2023. With him sidelined for at least four games, Trey McBride becomes an interesting waiver-wire pickup heading into Week 8. He's currently rostered in just 2% of Yahoo leagues.

  • Zach Ertz Not Worth A Week 7 Start

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz should be considered a bench stash in Week 7 against the Seahawks. Through the first five games of the season, Ertz was on pace for a career year. However, in the past two weeks, the rails have fallen off, as he's recently played second fiddle to teammate Trey McBride. In Week 6, this culminated in his lowest route run rate of the year (46.2%). To add insult to injury, he faces off against a Seattle defense that has held tight ends to the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game. It seems that Ertz's days as a high-volume play are now a thing of the past. Unless something drastically changes, Ertz should be considered as nothing more than a bench player on fantasy rosters.

  • Zach Ertz With Quiet Showing Against L.A.

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz ended up with a very quiet day in the team's 26-9 loss to the L.A. Rams on Sunday. The TE15 in all of fantasy football couldn't get anything going and was targeted only five times during the game. On a positive note, Ertz was able to haul in two of his targets for 22 yards, but it was a massively disappointing outing for the veteran. Fantasy managers were most likely expecting more with Ertz going up against a defense that was ranked as fifth worst against tight ends coming in. Even though Ertz was out-targeted and outproduced by teammate Trey McBride, he will look to rebound when Arizona travels to Seattle in Week 7 for an interdivisional game against the Seahawks.

  • Zach Ertz A TE1 For Week 6

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz should be considered a TE1 for this week's game against the L.A. Rams. He currently ranks as the TE15 in all of fantasy football and has been soaking up monster volume. In addition, he's fourth-best in red zone targets at the position. On the other side of the ball, even though the L.A. defense is seventh best against wide receivers, the same can't be said when it comes to defending opposing tight ends. As they've focused on stopping the big-play threats, the Rams have given up the third-most receiving yards and fifth-most fantasy points to tight ends. This should open up the door for Ertz to be a solid check-down option once again for quarterback Joshua Dobbs and the Arizona passing attack. Start Ertz with confidence in Week 6.

  • Zach Ertz With First Touchdown Against Cincinnati

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz caught two of four targets for 10 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 34-20 loss to the Bengals. Even though his yardage total was the lowest of Arizona's three tight ends, Ertz was the only one to get into the end zone, as he was able to snatch a four-yard TD pass from quarterback Joshua Dobbs in the second quarter for his first touchdown of the year. Even though Dobbs looked his way only four times, coming into this game Ertz had the second-most tight end targets in the NFL and should go back to seeing that consistent volume. In Week 6 he will go up against an L.A. Rams team that has already given up the 10th most fantasy points to tight ends and just allowed Eagles' tight end Dallas Goedert to rack up over 100 receiving yards.

  • Zach Ertz A TE1 For Week 5

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz should be considered a TE1 for this week's matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. Ertz returned to form last week in the loss to San Francisco, bringing in six receptions on 10 targets for 53 yards. The normally sure-handed pass catcher could've also had his first touchdown on the year but let a pass from quarterback Joshua Dobbs slip through his fingers. Currently, Ertz is ranked as the TE11 in all of fantasy with the second most targets and the fourth most receptions. In Week 5, Ertz goes up against a Bengals defense that has allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to tight ends. He should put up solid numbers and once again be viewed as a reliable starting option.

  • Zach Ertz - Week 2 Outlook For Fantasy Football

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz will be looking to build off of last Sunday's performance in Week 2 against the New York Giants. In the Week 1 loss to the Commanders, Ertz led the NFL in targets at the tight end position with 10, becoming a solid check-down option for quarterback Joshua Dobbs . Arizona's offensive line is currently a mess, and the Giants are looking to bounce back from their Week 1 thrashing at the hands of the Cowboys. Dobbs may look Ertz's way early and often. If that happens, the odds are good Ertz could approach the 10 target threshold once again and be a solid fantasy option. Either way, fantasy managers should roll with him in Week 2.

  • Marquise Brown, Zach Ertz Officially Active Sunday

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown (hamstring) and Zach Ertz (knee) are both officially active for Week 1 versus the Washington Commanders. Brown is a talented player and Arizona's No. 1 receiver, but he's a low-end WR3 in fantasy football with Joshua Dobbs starting at quarterback. As for Ertz, the 32-year-old is set to play in his first game since Week 10 last season when he tore his ACL. Ertz isn't quite on the fantasy radar thanks to Dobbs' level of play and the presence of Trey McBride.

  • Zach Ertz Likely To Play Week 1

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz (knee) had been listed as questionable but is expected to play in Week 1 against the Washington Commanders, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The 32-year-old is looking to play in his first game since Week 10 last season when he tore his left ACL. Ertz isn't quite on the fantasy radar, especially with Trey McBride in the fold, but he could earn some targets if Joshua Dobbs needs a security blanket to whom he can check down.

  • Marquise Brown, Zach Ertz Questionable For Week 1

    Headshot for Zach Ertz

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Marquise Brown (hamstring) and tight end Zach Ertz (knee) are listed as questionable for Week 1 versus the Washington Commanders. The two playmakers both practiced in a limited capacity all week long, offering very little insight into whether they'll be available for Sunday's game. Between the uncertainty of their statuses and the anticipated subpar quarterback play of Joshua Dobbs, it might be safest to just stay away from Brown, Ertz, and all Cardinals players not named James Conner in fantasy football this week.
