Position Rankings

Rank Name Bye Age ADP1 PPG2 Comment
Tier 3
14 Jalen Hurts, PHI 14 23.1 9.03 8.5

Mike's Thoughts: Rumors of the Eagles trading for Deshaun Watson puts some shade on the Hurts hype, but assuming Hurts is the starter, his running numbers make up a lot of fantasy points to vault him into the Top 10. Update 8/17: Hurts isn't looking great in camp, nor are the skill position players around him (Sanders - drops; Goedert - out of shape; Devonta Smith - injured), causing a drop outside the Top 12.

Tier 4
15 Matt Ryan, ATL 6 36.3 11.11 21.5

Mike's Thoughts: I am bullish on Calvin Ridley, but losing Julio Jones, I'm not very interested in rostering Matt Ryan. The projected pass volume thanks to a shoddy defense should help him maintain his usual season numbers.

16 Kirk Cousins, MIN 7 33.1 13.12 22.6
17 Baker Mayfield, CLE 13 26.4 12.06 18.5
18 Ryan Fitzpatrick, WAS 9 38.8 14.07 19.5

Mike's Thoughts: Drafted Fitzpatrick 16th round in RazzBowl in early-August.

  • Kirk Cousins To Face Cardinals Pass Rush

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will go up against a fierce Cardinals front seven in Week 2. Cardinals edge rusher Chandler Jones racked up five sacks in Week 1 and now will face a shaky Vikings offensive line. Cousins rallied last week to pass for 351 yards and two touchdowns in the team's overtime loss to the Bengals and will face an Arizona defense that allowed the 15th-most fantasy points to opposing passers. Cousins certainly has the offensive weapons to post a solid fantasy line, but the Cardinals defense could limit the veteran passer to QB2 status for Week 2.

  • Kirk Cousins Compiles Stats In Comeback Attempt

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 36 of 49 passes for 351 yards and two touchdowns versus the Cincinnati Bengals. Entering the season, the narrative that the Vikings would try to relentlessly run the ball persisted, slightly devaluing their passing-game assets in drafts. In Week 1, Minnesota found themselves in need of a comeback and were apt to passing. Cousins did nothing spectacular, but showed that he is still capable of leading an offense with several weapons to fantasy success. The Michigan State product should always be started in superflex leagues, and depending on his matchup, he could be a great streaming option. However, if fantasy managers use Cousins as a streamer, they should beware that there's a very likely situation in which the run game takes over and Cousins is left with an unspectacular stat line.

  • Vikings Sign Brian O'Neill To Five-Year Extension

Minnesota Vikings right tackle Brian O'Neill has signed a five-year extension worth $92.5 million, making him the second-highest paid player at the position in the NFL. The former second-round pick has played in 46 games with the Vikings and is viewed by many as the best offensive lineman on the team. In 2020, he played 1,070 offensive snaps while taking eight penalties and allowing three sacks, according to PFF. Dalvin Cook and Kirk Cousins are sure to be the main beneficiaries of O'Neill sticking around in Minnesota, as he can open up some running lanes and give his quarterback enough time to throw the ball.

  • Kirk Cousins Has A Lot To Prove Week 1

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has plenty to prove in Week 1 against the Bengals. There have been rumblings about Cousins future in Minnesota at season's end and he missed the first two weeks of camp after being placed on the COVID list. It has been a bumpy training camp but now Cousins must produce against a Bengals defense that allowed the 14th fewest fantasy points to opposing passers last season. The Bengals surrendered multiple touchdowns to 10 different quarterbacks last season and Cousins has enough weapons to post multiple scores to kick off his season. Cousins will be a high end QB2 in two-quarterback formats and possibly a top-15 play among passers in Week 1.

  • Kirk Cousins Passes For 57 Yards

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 5-of-7 passes for 57 yards in the Vikings final preseason game against the Chiefs. Cousins came out sharp, hitting some nice completions to tight end Irv Smith Jr. for 16 and 23 yards respectively. The 10-play opening drive resulted in a field goal but trouble brewed after that. Cousins took a sack on the next drive and then captained two straight three-and-outs before being pulled for backup Jake Browning. Head coach Mike Zimmer wanted certain starters to get some run in the final preseason game and the results were mixed for Cousins. Offensive line issues could stunt Cousins' value in the early weeks of the regular season.

  • Kirk Cousins Expected To Play In Final Preseason Game

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is expected to play in the team's final preseason game this weekend. Head coach Mike Zimmer told reporters over zoom on Wednesday that the game plan is "going to be just like last week." Starters like Cousins and receiver Adam Thielen played several series last week, with the latter leaving the game with a bruised thigh. The Vikings offense has been in flux at times during camp and apparently Zimmer thinks the veteran Cousins needs more game action. Cousins should land in the back half of the top-15 fantasy quarterbacks as drafts approach.

  • Kirk Cousins Plays Into Second Quarter

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 5-fo-7 passes for 23 yards in the team's second preseason game against the Colts. Cousins played into the second quarter and got some much-needed reps in. The veteran passer didn't take any chances downfield but was able to connect on some quick-strike throws. This may be Cousins only preseason action before Week 1 and will head into fantasy drafts sitting outside the top-12 among fantasy quarterbacks but could be a top choice in two-quarterback formats.

  • Kirk Cousins To See Game Action Saturday

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will play perhaps more than he anticipated in the team's preseason game Saturday. Head coach Mike Zimmer intimated as much after an up-and-down performance from Cousins and the offense in practice. The veteran passer mixed some huge plays to Adam Thielen and K.J. Osborn with a slew of interceptions and miscues. Cousins is making up for lost time after missing over a week of practice because he was placed on the COVID list. His performance and lack of training camp reps has prompted Zimmer to give Cousins more playing time in the preseason.

  • Christian Darrisaw Undergoes Core-Muscle Procedure

Minnesota Vikings offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw underwent a minor core muscle procedure on Thursday. The first-round pick from this year's draft is a big part of the Minnesota offensive line, which has had its struggles in the past. The team hopes that he can be ready for their Week 1 matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, but it seems like this may be a tall task. Upon the return of Darrisaw, stud running back Dalvin Cook should have an easier time finding running lanes, and quarterback Kirk Cousins should have more time throw. Darrisaw's eventual return will be good news for the Minnesota offense as a whole.

  • Kirk Cousins Vows To Follow Protocols

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins "vows" to follow NFL protocols after being placed on the close-contact list and was unable to practice due to backup Kellen Mond's positive test. Cousins is unvaccinated and appears to keep it that way, calling it a "private family health matter". But the veteran promised on Thursday to follow all procedures moving forward to ensure the safety of the team and, most importantly, his availability on Sundays. Cousins will have to make up for lost time after missing the first full week of practice.

  • Kirk Cousins Lands On COVID-Reserve List

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has been placed on the team's COVID-19 reserve list. Backup quarterback Kellen Mond tested positive over the weekend, sending Cousins and third string quarterback Nate Stanley into protocol as high-risk close contacts. The Vikings will have to make due for at least a couple of days as the entire quarterback room goes through the league's protocols for unvaccinated players. Head coach Mike Zimmer expressed his disappointment and frustration towards the setback and, as of now, there have been no reports of Cousins testing positive. The veteran passer could return to the practice field later this week.

  • Kirk Cousins Gets Mixed Reviews In Poll

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins was not ranked in the top-10 among passers in a recent poll among 50 NFL executives. Cousins can be a polarizing topic, a player who passed for a career-high 35 touchdowns in 2020 but led his team to a frustrating 7-9 record. One NFL executive praised Cousins by saying, "He's a good player. He's easy to nitpick, but he's productive and great for that system." But the veteran passer could be playing for his job in 2021. The Vikings have not had the team success they envisioned when they gave Cousins a huge contract and could decide to move on after this season if progress isn't made. In fantasy circles, however, Cousins can be counted on for 4,000-plus passing yards and 25 or more touchdowns.
