Darnell Mooney Still Progressing From Ankle Injury

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said that wide receiver Darnell Mooney (ankle) is still "progressing" from his ankle injury and isn't taking part in organized team activities this week. "This is a voluntary time for all the players. Some players have certain things going on," Eberflus said. Mooney suffered a season-ending left ankle injury in Week 12 last year and required surgery. He finished the 2022 campaign with 40 catches on 61 targets for 493 yards and two touchdowns. The 25-year-old should still have a big role in the passing game once he's back to full health, but the addition of DJ Moore and Chase Claypool will make his fantasy ceiling much lower in 2023. Mooney can still be a big-play asset for quarterback Justin Fields, but he won't be as attractive in PPR fantasy leagues.

Darnell Mooney Expects To Be Ready For Week 1

Chicago Bears wide receiver Darnell Mooney (ankle) reported he expects to be ready for the start of the 2023 campaign. The 25-year-old had a breakout season in 2021, amassing 81 catches for 1,055 yards and five total touchdowns. However, he took a step backward last season by compiling just 40 receptions for 493 yards and two scores. Even worse, he was limited to only 12 games before fracturing his ankle, which resulted in surgery. Although Chicago added DJ Moore, Mooney may benefit. The wideout could be an even bigger fantasy asset if Justin Fields improves as a passer.
