Saints Sign TE Jesse James

For the third straight year, Jesse James has found a new team. The Saints announced on Wednesday that they have signed the veteran tight end. James’ longest and most productive stint came with the Steelers to begin his career. His four-year tenure in Pittsburgh saw him start 36 of 56 games, and record a personal-best 423 receiving […]

Free-agent tight end Jesse James signed a deal with the Saints on Wednesday. The 28-year-old is best known for his time in Pittsburgh, where he spent four seasons before making stops in Detroit, Chicago, and Cleveland. In 104 career games, he totaled 157 catches for 1,522 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, despite a few decent showings from James over the years, he likely won't do much for fantasy managers if he remains with the Saints heading into the regular season, considering New Orleans has Juwan Johnson, Taysom Hill, and Foster Moreau on the roster.

Saints QB Jameis Winston Eyeing Future Starting Role

Jameis Winston is in line to continue serving in a backup role with the Saints in 2023, but he does not envision the remainder of his career consisting solely of QB2 duties. The 29-year-old made it clear he intends to pursue a starting job in the future. “The main thing is the opportunity, and I’m just […]

Embroiled in litigation against the NFL and Roger Goodell stemming from his October 2021 forced resignation, Jon Gruden has hovered well off the league’s coaching radar since his Raiders departure. The Super Bowl-winning HC’s recent Saints visit brought him back onto the grid. The Saints met with Gruden over a four-day period last week, seeking […]

The Saints have begun extension talks with Cameron Jordan. This would mark a rare three-extension career for a non-quarterback, but Jordan — the Saints’ all-time sack leader — has continued to display durability and quality production into his mid-30s. Although no deal is done, it does not sound like the Saints will chance letting Jordan […]

May 29 · ESPN New Orleans Saints Derek CarrJon Gruden Helping Saints, Derek Carr Install Offense

The New Orleans Saints have brought in former Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden to help quarterback Derek Carr and the offensive coaching staff install their new offense under head coach Dennis Allen. Since being drafted in the second round in 2014, Carr had spent his entire career with the Raiders. Carr and Gruden ran the West Coast offense from 2018 through 2021, which is similar to the one the Saints employ. The Saints signed Carr this offseason primarily because of his familiarity with the offensive scheme, so it should allow him to hit the ground running sooner than later in 2023. The 32-year-old QB made his fourth Pro Bowl in 2022 but completed just 60.8% of his passes for 3,522 yards, 24 TDs and 14 interceptions in 15 starts. In his first year in the Big Easy, he should be viewed as a midrange QB2 in fantasy.

Juwan Johnson Looks To Be Go-To Guy For Derek Carr

New Orleans Saints tight end Juwan Johnson said he asked the Saints to put together film of Julian Edelman from his time in New England, signifying he could be used primarily as a slot receiver/tight end hybrid in 2023. "I know the type of role I'll be doing, and (Derek Carr) loves those routes," said Johnson. "(Edelman) is one of the best at those choice routes, short-game routes." This will be an interesting development to follow since Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Hunter Renfrow had a ton of success in a similar role in 2021. Johnson was a wide receiver in college and is on the light side for a tight end (230 lbs). In 2022, he posted the seventh-most slot snaps (185) among tight ends, so it's not a dramatic change. It appears he will be a move tight end while Foster Moreau serves as more of a traditional tight end.

Foster Moreau Participating In OTAs

Newly acquired New Orleans Saints tight end Foster Moreau is participating and running routes at OTAs just two months after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The belief is Moreau will play this season, which is awesome news after the scary development. Moreau spent four seasons with the Raiders organization, serving primarily as Darren Waller's backup. Considering his limited role, he posted a respectable 91 receptions for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns over his time in the Silver and Black. He'll be catching passes with Derek Carr once again in New Orleans, but Juwan Johnson will eat into his overall production. For now, its tough to expect anything more than a TE3 fantasy season for the former LSU Tiger.

Kendre Miller Misses Rookie OTAs

New Orleans Saints running back Kendre Miller (knee) was unable to participate in rookie OTAs. This is unsurprising news considering Miller tore his meniscus in January. The TCU product hasn't been cleared for rookie workouts. Despite the injury, New Orleans decided to select Miller in the third round of this year's draft. The 20-year-old rushed for 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns with TCU last season. The expectation is that Miller is going to be able to carve out a legitimate role alongside Alvin Kamara. It remains to be seen how the Saints decide to split up playing time. Regardless, Miller is expected to be 100 percent healthy by the time the preseason rolls around.

James Washington Signing With Saints

Former Pittsburgh Steelers and Dallas Cowboys wide receiver James Washington is signing with the New Orleans Saints on a one-year deal. The Oklahoma State alumni played in just two games last season with Dallas thanks to a preseason foot injury but did catch any passes. In 60 games with the Steelers, he hauled in 114 passes for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns. While Washington won't carry much fantasy value immediately, he could be sprung into action if Michael Thomas suffers another injury. Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, A.T. Perry, and Tre'Quan Smith round out the Saints' wideout room.

Kendre Miller Not Expected To Miss Training Camp

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said he doesn't expect rookie running back Kendre Miller (knee) to miss any of training camp in the second half of July. Allen didn't clarify when Miller could get back on the field, but it's a good sign he isn't slated to miss any of the all-important training camp practices. Miller was selected in the third round by New Orleans after a fantastic season with TCU. The 20-year-old rushed for 1,399 yards and 17 touchdowns for the National Champion runner-ups. However, Miller suffered a knee injury in the College Football Playoff semifinals and wasn't able to participate in on-field work during the pre-draft process.

Foster Moreau Could Be Ready For OTAs

New Orleans Saints tight end Foster Moreau decided to step away from football after being diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma less than two months ago. Now, Moreau has a chance of being ready for the beginning of OTAs, according to head coach Dennis Allen. The Saints and Moreau recently agreed on a three-year, $12 million contract. The expectation is that he'll compete for targets with Juwan Johnson and Taysom Hill. That being said, it's hard to imagine he'll be a TE1 heading into next season. His usage will likely decrease with the move to New Orleans. Regardless, it's fantastic to see that Moreau is going to be on a football field again.

James Washington Visiting With Saints

Free-agent wide receiver James Washington is scheduled to visit with the New Orleans Saints on Monday. The 27-year-old was only able to play in two games last season due to injury. He was waived late in the season by the Dallas Cowboys and was brought in to the New York Giants practice squad. There doesn't seem to be much interest for the former second round pick right now. He was a decent contributor during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He could be a nice depth option, but it's unlikely he'll have weekly fantasy value in New Orleans.

Michael Thomas Has Hardware Removed In Foot

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas (toe) hasn't played a full season of football since 2019. It's sad, but Thomas just can't seem to stay healthy anymore, but hopefully that changes. The 30-year-old recently had hardware removed from his injured foot about a week ago, according to head coach Dennis Allen. The team has already said Thomas will be ready for camp. We've all heard this story before, so we'll wait and see if he actually suits up at the beginning of camp. The expectation is that Chris Olave will take over as the No. 1, which could make Thomas an interesting sleeper option if he's actually healthy.

Michael Thomas Expected To Be "Good To Go" For Training Camp

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said on The Rich Eisen Show early this week that wide receiver Michael Thomas (toe) is expected to be "good to go" for training camp in late July. "He's doing really well. He's working extremely hard. Our anticipation is that... he'll be limited throughout this offseason. But our anticipation is that when we get to training camp that he'll be good to go." It's understandable for fantasy managers to be skeptical, as the 30-year-old pass-catcher has played in a combined 10 games in the last three years due to injuries. He'll make for an interesting sleeper candidate if he's indeed fully healthy and stays that way, but Chris Olave is probably ready to take over as the team's No. 1 wideout in 2023.

Saints, Foster Moreau Agree On Three-Year Deal

The New Orleans Saints and free-agent tight end Foster Moreau agreed to terms on a three-year, $12 million deal on Wednesday, according to his agent. The deal includes $8 million guaranteed and $3 million in incentives. Moreau has a positive diagnosis on his Hodgkin's lymphoma recovery and plans to play in 2023 for the Saints. The 26-year-old will be reunited with quarterback Derek Carr in the Big Easy this year and joins a tight end room that also includes Juwan Johnson and Swiss Army Knife Taysom Hill. Moreau could have a big role with his new team, but fantasy managers can't consider him a surefire TE1 given the presence of both Johnson and Hill. We should have a better idea of how the Saints will deploy him once training camp kicks off at the end of July.

Isaiah Foskey Could Be Rotational Pass-Rusher

New Orleans Saints rookie pass-rusher Isaiah Foskey has an opportunity to emerge as a potent pass-rusher opposite Cam Jordan in his first NFL season. Carl Granderson might be the favorite to start, but Payton Turner is closer than not to being labeled a bust, and Marcus Davenport is gone. Foskey has a reasonable chance to at least be a rotational pass-rusher in his first NFL season. He fits the Saints' size profile for a 4-3 defensive end at 6-foot-5 and 264 pounds. The 22-year-old was productive in college in his last two seasons at Notre Dame, too, with 11 sacks in each season. He also led FBS with six forced fumbles in 2021 and blocked four punts in college.

Foster Moreau Attracting Attention From Saints and Other Teams

Former Raiders tight end Foster Moreau has reportedly received an offer from the New Orleans Saints and is drawing attention from other teams, even after having been diagnosed with cancer. Moreau's Hodgkin's lymphoma was discovered during a physical conducted by the Saints during the free agency period. Moreau said that he was going to be stepping away from football to "kick [cancer's] ass." The 26-year-old is optimistic that he could be able to return to the football field after undergoing chemotherapy.Still it's unclear when Moreau would be ready to play again. An article by the USA Today's John Sigler suggested he could be put on a team's non-football injury list and be able to play halfway through this season. Moreau is coming off his best season in terms of receptions and yards. Regardless of whether he is able to return in 2023, the optimistic news means he maintains long-term value in dynasty leagues.

Kendre Miller Has Plenty Of Upside

New Orleans Saints assistant general manager Jeff Ireland said rookie running back Kendre Miller has "huge upside." The Saints took Miller in the third round of this year's NFL draft, and he could have a pretty sizeable role in his first season with Alvin Kamara likely to draw some sort of suspension to kick off the 2023 season. The 20-year-old had 1399 yards and 17 touchdowns on 224 carries for TCU on the way to the National Championship game. Miller doesn't have a lot of pass-catching skills, but he should be relevant in single-year leagues if Kamara is suspended at some point. "It all goes back to height, weight and speed. Loved his running style. He's a down-hill runner, runs with great pad level. He's got explosive breakaway speed in the open field. He's creative. He makes people miss. And we just felt like, man, this is too good to be true," Ireland said.
