  • Antonio Gibson Returns To Team Drills

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (hamstring) received his first carry of training camp in team drills on Friday and looked solid. The Commanders chose to ease Gibson into camp workouts this summer, and he has avoided any setbacks with his hamstring to this point. The 24-year-old wants to play lighter this year as he looks to hold off rookie Brian Robinson and pass-catching back J.D. McKissic. He had his first 1,000-yard rushing season in his second year in 2021, but Washington seems adamant on splitting the workload more, with Robinson in line to steal valuable short-yardage and goal-line work from Gibson. As things are trending right now, Gibson has become a very shaky RB2 for fantasy managers.

  • Commanders Waive Drew White

The Commanders waived linebacker Drew White (knee) on Wednesday. He will revert to injured reserve after clearing waivers. The rookie out of Notre Dame tore his ACL during training camp on Tuesday, ending his inaugural season before it potentially began. Despite his efficient collegiate career, White wasn't a lock to make the Week 1 roster. He was also far from being relevant to IDP participants, so the injury won't mean much from a fantasy standpoint.

  • Curtis Samuel Practicing On The Sidelines

Washington Commanders wide receiver Curtis Samuel struggled with injuries last season, limiting him to only five games played. Samuel, who has familiarity with head coach Ron Rivera from their time together in Carolina, was seen working on the sideline in practice on Monday. When asked about it, Rivera stated he "had some chances to look at him" and has "some concern about football conditioning." This will allow rookie receiver Jahan Dotson, who the Commanders drafted 16th overall, even more opportunity to gain chemistry with quarterback Carson Wentz. This could also open the door for Dotson to lock down the No. 2 receiver role behind Terry McLaurin. This makes Samuel a difficult player to trust in fantasy drafts, and he's someone to stay away from until we are assured he's healthy.

The defensive end, who was drafted by Washington in 2011, will sign a one-day contract to retire as a Commander.

  • Ryan Kerrigan Retires After 11 Seasons

Ryan Kerrigan announced his retirement from the NFL after playing 11 seasons. The four-time Pro Bowler played 10 seasons in Washington and holds the team's all-time record for sacks with 95.5. He amassed three interceptions and 26 forced fumbles over his career while adding 333 solo tackles and 149 quarterback hits. After spending his final season with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles, the 33-year-old will sign a one-day contract and retire as a member of the Commanders.

  • Commanders Expect Chase Young To Miss Time

When asked in his radio appearance with 106.7 The Fan about Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young (knee), head coach Ron Rivera said his injury is "a little more severe" and he expects Young to "miss a bit of time." This adds further pessimism to the outlook of their budding superstar, who operates as the leader of their defense. While it's uncertain just how much time Young might miss, it will inevitably hurt the Commanders early in the year as they try to bounce back from a disappointing season in 2021.

  • Antonio Gandy-Golden Retires Thursday

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said that tight end Antonio Gandy-Golden is retiring from professional football and will return to school. Gandy-Golden, a fourth-round pick by Washington in 2020 out of Liberty, caught just one of seven targets for three yards in 10 games (two starts) in his two seasons with the Commanders. He also had one carry for a 22-yard gain in his rookie season. The 24-year-old was making the transition from wide receiver to tight end this year, but that experiment is now over.

  • Sammis Reyes Back On The Field

Washington Commanders tight end Sammis Reyes (leg) is practicing with the team at training camp after missing the offseason program with what head coach Ron Rivera described as leg discomfort due to an "old screw" from a previous procedure. Reyes said he's comfortable physically and mentally after studying hours of tape while injured. Logan Thomas (knee) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list. John Bates is the de facto starter, while rookie Cole Turner is expected to contribute in the receiving game. Reyes is among the depth candidates that include undrafted rookie Curtis Hodges. The 26-year-old didn't receive a single target in 11 games last year and remains well off the fantasy radar at this time.

  • Chase Young Might Not Be Ready For Week 1

Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young (knee) is on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin training camp, and his timeline for on-field work remains unclear. Head coach Ron Rivera's comments on Tuesday added pessimism for a quick return and cast doubt on whether he'll even be available for Week 1 of the regular season. Young tore his ACL in mid-November of last year and is still working his way back. The second overall pick in 2020 made the Pro Bowl in his rookie season by recording 7.5 sacks and 32 solo tackles in 15 games, but he'll be a risky high-end IDP selection as a defensive lineman this year because of his injury.

  • Carson Wentz Struggles Under Pressure Wednesday

Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz didn't throw into traffic when under duress at training camp practice on Wednesday, but he struggled to make plays at times when under pressure, even without the threat of being hit. It's a weakness that he's shown with the Eagles and Colts in his past stops. Even short passes to running backs went wide or short on Wednesday. On the flip side, he flashed his powerful arm and showed a good connection with Terry McLaurin, who missed offseason workouts due to his contract situation. The 29-year-old has a new opportunity in D.C. and some weapons to work with, but until he proves otherwise, he should be seen as a low-end QB2 in fantasy.

  • Brian Robinson Expected To Handle Short-Yardage Situations

The Washington Commanders selected rookie running back Brian Robinson in the third round for his power and ball security, and at a minimum, he's expected to handle short-yardage work this year. Washington plans to find ways to get Antonio Gibson the ball in space, rather than force him inside. And the Commanders also re-signed pass-catching specialist J.D. McKissic. "He's a big, strong, powerful downhill runner, more so than anything else," head coach Ron Rivera said of Robinson. The rookie will receive ample work with the first-team offense early in training camp with the team ramping up Gibson's workload. Robinson may not have standalone fantasy value in 2022 unless Gibson misses time with injury, but his presence will cut into Gibson's workload, making him a risky RB2 in fantasy.

  • Antonio Gibson Working On Side Field

Washington Commanders running back Antonio Gibson (hamstring) has opened up training camp working on a side field. He also missed a bit of mandatory minicamp in June with a hamstring twinge. Head coach Ron Rivera said Gibson is being held out due to "an abundance of caution." The 24-year-old's absence will allow J.D. McKissic and rookie third-rounder Brian Robinson to get more repetitions in camp for now. Gibson's fantasy stock has fallen heading into the 2022 season after McKissic chose to return and the team drafted Robinson in the third round. Gibson's 2021 gains were mostly due to volume, which he won't be guaranteed this year. Fantasy managers should consider him a low-end RB2.

  • Logan Thomas Placed On PUP List

Washington Commanders tight end Logan Thomas (knee) has been placed on the active/PUP list. It's worth noting that players placed on the PUP list can be activated at any time during training camp. Thomas is working his way back from a torn ACL and MCL that he suffered in December of last season. That being said, it's uncertain if Thomas is going to be ready to go by the beginning of the season. The first step is getting Thomas back on the practice field. Once healthy, Thomas could be a key contributor in this offense, but he might miss some time to begin the season. John Bates is likely to start in place of Thomas, assuming he isn't ready by Week 1.
