  • 49ers Sign Willie Snead IV

Free-agent wide receiver Willie Snead IV inked a one-year deal with the 49ers. The 29-year-old has suited up for regular season snaps in New Orleans, Baltimore, Las Vegas, and Carolina since 2015. During that span, he's compiled 3,431 yards and 16 touchdowns off 279 catches. Although Snead will be behind Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Jauan Jennings, and Danny Gray on the depth chart, he could see some looks from Trey Lance if someone gets injured within the receiving corps. As a result, he has streaming potential in 2022-23.

  • 49ers' Depth Could Push Deebo Samuel Back To Old Role

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel should return to his old role as a full-time wide receiver now that the team has plenty of impressive depth at the running back position. Albert Breer of MMQB observes that incumbent starter Elijah Mitchell remains a stud while "rookie Tyrion Davis-Price has impressed in pads [and] Trey Sermon has taken a step." With so much depth in the backfield, Samuel won't be needed to run the ball as much. He was the WR2 last season, racking up 77 receptions, 1,405 receiving yards, 59 carries, 365 rushing yards, and 14 total touchdowns through 16 games. He owns an ADP of 17 heading into 2022 fantasy drafts.

  • Brandon Aiyuk Having Very Strong Camp

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk "has built off his strong finish to 2021, is in phenomenal shape, [and] looks like a complete wide receiver," according to Albert Breer of MMQB. He adds that Aiyuk's ability to beat man coverage could give the 49ers' offense a huge advantage in 2022. Last year was a tale of two stories for the former first-round pick, who had a quiet start to the year. In fact, he was just the WR94 from Weeks 1 to 7. Then, he turned things around, ranking as the WR16 from Week 8 until the end of the season. He projects as a mid-range WR3 this coming season and carries an ADP of 78.

  • 49ers Sign OT Jordan Mills

Jordan Mills has found a new home. The veteran offensive tackle has signed with the 49ers, reports Aaron Wilson of (on Twitter). Mills has bounced around the NFL since his four-year stint with the Bills ended in 2018. He started two of his three games for the Cardinals in 2019 before suffering a knee […]

  • Willie Snead Joins 49ers Roster

The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to a deal with wide receiver Willie Snead. The 29-year-old played in seven games last season between two teams. He hasn't made much an impact on the field in a few seasons. He's a decent addition as depth, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to make much of an impact. Snead hauled in 33 receptions for 432 yards and three touchdowns with the Baltimore Ravens in 2020. He won't be someone worth looking at in fantasy leagues unless the 49ers lose a few receivers due to injury.

  • Elijah Mitchell Looks Like Clear-Cut No. 1 RB

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell looks like the clear-cut No. 1 option at running back for the team this summer. He had some holes in the running game at training camp practice on Friday and a couple that would have gone for long gains. If he can stay healthy, he has a real chance to be the first player to lead the Niners in rushing two years in a row under head coach Kyle Shanahan. Mitchell earned lead-back duties by rushing for 963 yards and five touchdowns on 207 carries in 11 games (10 starts) as a rookie in 2021. However, there are durability concerns and he could lose work to Jeff Wilson Jr., rookie Tyrion Davis-Price, Trey Sermon and JaMycal Hasty. Despite those concerns, the 24-year-old is the team's most valuable fantasy back as a low-end RB2.

  • 49ers To Sign WR Willie Snead

4:07pm: Snead’s three-workout week will lead to a deal. The 49ers will add Snead to their 90-man roster, Wilson tweets. They will be his sixth NFL team. A former UDFA out of Ball State, Snead initially caught on with the Browns and Panthers before making a splash with the Saints. He has since played with the […]

  • Growing Pains Expected From Trey Lance

The San Francisco 49ers definitely believe they will eventually be better with quarterback Trey Lance, but in the short term, they understand that Lance will have growing pains and lack consistency from game to game. Lance hasn't played a full season since 2019, when he was on the field for 949 snaps at North Dakota State. It's why he sat behind Jimmy Garoppolo last year after being the third overall pick in the draft. The repetitions he receives this year will help him improve for the future. The Niners believe the 22-year-old can be one of the best QBs in the league, but they're entering the 2022 season with a degree of uncertainty about how he'll play. Fantasy managers should have similar view this year, but Lance's dual-threat abilities gives him QB1 upside in the right matchups in his first full year as the team's starter.

  • Brandon Aiyuk Has Been The Star Of Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has been the most impressive player at training camp according to his teammates. Jimmie Ward says the third-year wideout is "having the best camp out of everyone on the team." The former Arizona State star had an outstanding rookie season followed up by a mediocre sophomore year where he struggled at times. Now, the 24-year-old looks like he has taken that next step to be a go-to target for the Trey Lance-led offense. Lance has been working with Aiyuk all offseason, and the two have developed a great rapport during their training sessions. There are a lot of mouths to feed in this run-heavy San Francisco offense, as Deebo Samuel and George Kittle will command significant target volume. However, Aiyuk is still well worth a late-round pick. He was the WR20 in fantasy points per game from Week 9 onwards last year after starting the season in the dog house. So, he has shown he can produce WR2 numbers despite a crowded pass-catching group. If Samuel or Kittle were to miss any time, his fantasy value would skyrocket.

  • 49ers WR/TE Jordan Matthews Tears ACL

Jordan Matthews‘ quest to change positions took a major hit this week. The 49ers wideout-turned-tight end tore his ACL during practice on Monday, reports Can Inman of the San Jose Mercury (on Twitter). The veteran will be placed on injured reserve. Matthews announced his plan to switch to tight end last offseason, and he added […]

  • Jimmy Garoppolo Practicing Without Restrictions

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) has been cleared to practice in training camp without restrictions after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery that has prevented him from being traded. Because the Niners still plan to trade him, they are having him work out separately from the team during camp. "Jimmy's doing a really good job," general manager John Lynch said. "Kind of building his stamina in the throwing program that was prescribed all along and working out really strongly and aggressively, but yeah that situation is kind of where we've described it before." As of now, nothing seems imminent for Jimmy G as far as a trade, and it might not happen until deeper into training camp.

  • Deebo Samuel Not Concerned About Rushing Role

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel said his "wide back" role as a running back in 2021 was not a factor in his offseason discontent with the team when he requested a trade. He also said he's will to do "whatever it takes" to win moving forward after recently signing a three-year, $71.55 million extension to remain in San Francisco. Samuel finished last year as the WR2 in fantasy with 77 receptions, 1,405 yards, a league-leading 18.2 yards per catch and six touchdowns, adding 59 carries for 365 rushing yards and eight touchdowns in 16 regular season games. The Niners backfield was pretty beat up last year, so it's possible they won't need to use Samuel as much in a rushing role in 2022, but fantasy managers certainly weren't complaining. Either way, the 26-year-old will be a surefire top-10 fantasy pass-catcher this year.

  • Tyrion Davis-Price, Jeff Wilson Jr. Could Be Involved Early

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell will get the first crack at keeping his starting job after setting the franchise record for rushing yards by a rookie in 2021. But the team drafted Tyrion Davis-Price in the third round, re-signed Jeff Wilson Jr. and still has JaMycal Hasty and Trey Sermon in the mix. Ideally, Davis-Price will offer short-yardage and goal-line help with Mitchell handling the bulk of the work. But there are injury concerns with Mitchell, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see Davis-Price and Wilson involved early in the season, even if Mitchell remains the starter. Another thing to consider: The Niners have had a different leading rusher in each of head coach Kyle Shanahan's five seasons with the team. As such, Mitchell should be targeted as more of a low-end RB2 in fantasy drafts.

  • Deebo Samuel Has Incentives For Rushing Milestones

In case the San Francisco 49ers continue to use wide receiver Deebo Samuel as a running back this year, he has incentives in his new contract that could pay him an extra $1.95 million over the life of the contract for rushing yards and rushing touchdowns, according to sources. Samuel and the Niners agreed on a three-year, $71.55 million contract extension on Sunday, and he'll be eased back into training camp practices after holding out to begin camp. The 26-year-old finished last year as the WR2 in fantasy, mainly because of his 59 rushing attempts for an extra 365 yards and eight touchdowns, but he also secured 77 of his 120 targets for 1,405 yards and six TDs through the air. Even if Samuel isn't used quite as much out of the backfield in 2022, he'll be firmly in the mix as a top-10 fantasy receiver.

  • 49ers Sign Akeem Spence To One-Year Deal

The San Francisco 49ers signed free-agent defensive lineman Akeem Spence to an undisclosed one-year deal on Monday. In a corresponding move, the team placed defensive lineman Maurice Hurst (biceps) on Injured Reserve, ending his season after he suffered a torn biceps at the start of training camp that required surgery. Hurst will end the year on IR for the second season in a row. Spence, who was originally a fourth-round pick by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013 out of Illinois, played in just one game for the Washington Commanders last year. The 30-year-old hasn't had a sack since 2018 with the Miami Dolphins and will simply be providing interior defensive line depth with Hurst done for the year.

  • Deebo Samuel Agrees To Extension With 49ers

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel agreed to a three-year, $73.5 million extension, including $58.1 million in guarantees. The 26-year-old was a top fantasy producer last season, accumulating 1,405 yards and six touchdowns off 77 catches (121 targets). He also got some work out of the backfield, rushing for 365 yards off 59 attempts while adding eight more trips to the end zone. It was a roller coaster offseason for Samuel, who was expected to be moved after requesting a trade. However, he will stay with the Niners, which is good news for the developing Trey Lance. Nonetheless, although Samuel will remain a sought-after fantasy option heading into the 2022-23 campaign, he reportedly expressed a desire to see less work as a running back. As a result, the former Gamecock may see a dip in production, especially if Lance doesn't significantly improve upon his 57.7% completion percentage from his rookie year.

  • George Kittle Participating In Training Camp

The 49ers superstar tight end George Kittle (lower-body) was back on the field practicing, seemingly past the injury concerns he was experiencing earlier in the offseason. Kittle was catching passes from sophomore Trey Lance, in an effort to build chemistry while they prepare to make another playoff run with super bowl aspirations. Kittle was dominant last season, finishing as the TE4, with a career-high six touchdowns, despite missing three games. Health and the transition to Lance continue to present a small worry, making his ADP a bargain in most drafts and an ideal target for 2022.

  • Maurice Hurst Likely Done For The Season

San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Maurice Hurst (biceps) tore his biceps muscle in Friday's training camp practice, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Hurst will likely miss all of the 2022 season as a result. It hasn't been a good start to training camp for the 49ers defense, as Dre Greenlaw (hamstring) and Arik Armstead (knee) have also been sidelined with injuries. Hurst played in just two games for San Francisco last year while dealing with ankle and calf injuries, and now he'll miss all of 2022 after signing a one-year deal. The 27-year-old was expected to compete for rotational snaps on the interior of the team's defensive line this year.

  • Arik Armstead Out A Few Weeks With Sprained MCL

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that defensive lineman Arik Armstead (knee) sprained his MCL in training camp practice and will be out for a few weeks. His knee injury isn't considered serious, so Armstead still has a chance to be ready for Week 1. The 28-year-old former first-round selection had a career-high 63 tackles (29 solo), six sacks, seven tackles for loss and 11 QB hits in 17 starts in his seventh season with the Niners. He's been extremely durable for the team's defensive line, playing full seasons each of the last four years.

  • Deebo Samuel Conditions "On The Side" During Camp

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is at training camp. However, the wideout has been conditioning "on the side," according to Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area. The 26-year-old continues his quest for a new deal. Fortunately, with both sides seemingly working on the particulars, Samuel could be suiting up for the Niners this season, after all. Nonetheless, fantasy managers may want to look in another direction unless this situation is resolved. Considering that Samuel isn't looking to spend as much time as a running back this year hurts his fantasy outlook even more.

  • 49ers Officially Release Dee Ford

The San Francisco 49ers officially released defensive end Dee Ford (back) on Wednesday. Ford has been bothered by a back injury since last year and wasn't able to take part in offseason practices in organized team activities or mandatory minicamp last month, leading to his release. The 31-year-old pass-rusher had 6.5 sacks in his first year with the team in 2019 before notching only three sacks in seven combined games the last two seasons due to injuries. He was originally a first-round pick by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2014 out of Auburn, and Ford totaled 30.5 sacks in his five seasons with the Chiefs before the Niners traded for him. Ford will need to get healthy if he wants to continue his career with another team.

  • Jimmy Garoppolo Could Be Cut By 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are hoping that a trade opportunity materializes for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) now that they are officially all-in on Trey Lance in 2022 and beyond. If the team can't trade Garoppolo, they will absolutely cut him before Week 1, when his $24.2 million salary would become fully guaranteed as termination pay under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. As a result, the 49ers will keep him out of practice and preseason games to ensure he won't get injured. The Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks make the most sense for Jimmy G, but they may not be motivated to trade for him unless they suffer an injury at the position. The 30-year-old avoided the Physically Unable to Perform list to open training camp, but it remains to be seen if he'll be starting for another team in 2022 come Week 1.

  • Jimmy Garoppolo Avoids PUP List

After taking his physical on Tuesday at training camp, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) wasn't placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Although Garoppolo isn't expected to get back on a practice field until mid-August after having offseason shoulder surgery, it's good news for his availability for the start of the regular season, which will almost certainly be with another organization. The Niners also publicly admitted on Tuesday that they've officially moved on from Jimmy G to Trey Lance at the position. The Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans make the most sense for the 30-year-old signal-caller, but there's no guarantee he'd be starting right away in either scenario.

  • Deebo Samuel Reports To Training Camp

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel reported to training camp on Tuesday. "We've had productive and substantive talks. Don't want to get people excited that we're imminent because we're not there yet. Deebo's here today and we're excited to move forward with him on this team. We're focused on getting something done," general manager John Lynch said. It wouldn't be a surprise if Samuel doesn't practice this summer until he has a new contract extension, but the mere fact that he's in attendance is a good sign. The 49ers are unlikely to use him in the backfield like they did in 2021, but Samuel is still a no-brainer top-10 fantasy wideout after he finished as the WR2 last season.

  • 49ers Have Moved On From Jimmy Garoppolo

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he, general manager John Lynch and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (shoulder) spoke on Tuesday morning, and everyone is on the same page: "We have moved on to Trey Lance." The Niners had been leaning this way since last season ended, but things have been complicated by the fact that Garoppolo remains on the roster after having offseason shoulder surgery on his right arm. The 30-year-old is expected to return to the field by mid-August, but there's a good chance he'll be with another organization by then. The Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans are the most likely landing spots for Jimmy G, but it remains to be seen if he'll be healthy enough to start somewhere else by Week 1 of the regular season.
