  • Cameron McGrone May Miss His Rookie Season

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said after this year's NFL draft that their fifth-rounder, linebacker Cameron McGrone (knee), might miss his entire rookie season after tearing his ACL last November. "We're not really sure what the expectation of availability is for him, but we're prepared certainly to not have him available this year," Belichick said. "There are no false expectations here. He should have a good recovery and be a good player; we'll just have to see what the timing is on that." In a best-case scenario, McGrone would eventually replace Dont'a Hightower in the middle of New England's defense. McGrone is currently rehabbing his ACL injury but also tore his right ACL in high school. His lack of game action at Michigan makes him extremely risky, but Belichick and the Pats are comfortable with being patient to see if he pans out.

  • Patriots Decline Sony Michel's Option, Pick Up Isaiah Wynn's

The New England Patriots picked up the fifth-year option for the 2022 season on offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn on Monday. On the flip side, they declined the fifth-year option for running back Sony Michel. Michel was the 31st overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft and would've made $4.523 million in 2022 had his option been picked up. He'll have a base salary of $1.79 million this year. He had 2,292 yards rushing on 535 carries and 14 touchdowns in his three seasons with the Pats, but he played in just nine games (six starts) due to injury in 2020 and rushed for only 449 yards and one score. Michel was barely used in the passing game as well. He'll return to a backfield committee with James White, Damien Harris and rookie Rhamondre Stevenson this year. Wynn was the No. 23 overall pick in 2018 and will make $10.413 million in 2022.

  • Patriots Grab Receiver Tre Nixon

With the 242nd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have selected UCF wide receiver Tre Nixon. Seventh rounders don't see a lot of snaps in the NFL, but the Patriots have an unusually weak receiving group, so maybe Nixon could crack the rotation? He's not the most explosive player in this draft and he had a drop problem in college, but he's a nice route runner who makes some smart decisions. He should be on your dynasty radar, but not too high.

  • Patriots Draft Running Back Rhamondre Stevenson

With the 120th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have selected Oklahoma running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Stevenson had 665 rushing yards last year but missed the first five games of the season due to suspension. He's agile despite being a bigger back and has some appeal as a pass-catching back as well. The Patriots depth chart at running back looks pretty crowded right now, but no one on the current team has a firm hold on their role. Keep an eye on Stevenson to see if there's any training camp buzz about him garnering a larger role.

  • Patriots Select Edge Rusher Ronnie Perkins

The New England Patriots selected Oklahoma edge rusher Ronnie Perkins with the No. 96 overall pick in the third round of the 2021 NFL draft on Friday night. Perkins could be a big steal of the third round with the compensatory pick that New England received from losing Tom Brady in free agency last year. He profiles as a power rusher with a high motor and a good first step off the snap. He's an old-school stand-up rusher that should eventually force his way into the starting lineup at some point in 2021. The 6-foot-3, 247-pounder has a nice speed/power combination that head coach Bill Belichick will surely enjoy coaching up.
