  • Patriots Offense In Trouble?

New England Patriots players are "alarmed" so far with what they've seen from the team's offensive coaching staff. "There is a high-level of concern about what is going on with the Patriots," Boston Sports Journal's Greg A. Bedard said. It's something to watch, but we shouldn't jump to conclusions just yet with head coach Bill Belichick's coaching staff. The Patriots never officially named a new offensive coordinator after Josh McDaniels left for the head-coaching job with the Las Vegas Raiders. This is a storyline to watch closely as we approach training camp this summer. Second-year quarterback Mac Jones figures to be affected the most by the team's offensive changes heading into the 2022 campaign.

  • Why New England Patriots' selection of QB Bailey Zappe is lauded by former GM

Randy Mueller, who ranked Zappe as the second-best QB in the 2022 draft, says the fourth-round pick "anticipates and processes" like a veteran.

  • James White Cleared For On-Field Drills

New England Patriots running back James White (hip) was cleared for on-field drills. The veteran back was limited to three games due to hip surgery in October. The 30-year-old is making solid progress, but might be held out of full-squad workouts next week. The good news is, White should be ready to go when training camp begins. Although, rookie running back Pierre Strong Jr. might push White back on the depth chart.

  • Mac Jones Showing Dedication This Offseason

The New England Patriots sound ecstatic with second-year quarterback Mac Jones' offseason dedication. He has spent long hours at Gillette Stadium, often beating the coaches into the building to get a jump-start on film study for the day. Jones is also taking ownership of the offense and is willing to vouch for plays and concepts that he likes while pumping the brakes on plays that haven't worked. The 23-year-old impressed in his rookie season with 3,801 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on 521 attempts, and the additions of receivers DeVante Parker and Nelson Agholor should only help his cause in Year 2. However, the loss of former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels could be significant, and Jones should be considered a low-upside QB2 until further notice.

  • Patriots counting on lift at linebacker from 2021 pick Cameron McGrone

The fifth-rounder, who missed his rookie season because of a torn left ACL, adds youth and speed to the defense.

  • Pierre Strong Jr. Could Be James White's Successor

New England Patriots fourth-round running back Pierre Strong Jr. was highly productive on the ground in his time at South Dakota State, as he averaged 7.2 yards per carry in his career and had 1,000 yards rushing in each of his three full seasons while scoring 40 career rushing touchdowns. However, with Damien Harris and Rhamondre Stevenson forming an early down duo in New England, Strong projects as a complement and a potential long-term replacement for pass-catching back James White, who has yet to fully recover from hip surgery. "I would say from a Patriots perspective, yeah, I think he starts working a lot more on those third-down roles, maybe as more of a pass-blocking option to James White's pass-catching option, and then slowly eats into that. But don't be surprised if they also work him heavily in the rotation," Shrine Bowl director of operations and player personnel Eric Galko said.

  • Patriots Cut D'Eriq King

The New England Patriots waived former University of Miami quarterback D'Eriq King on Monday. King signed with the Patriots on May 1 after going undrafted. The Patriots were planning on using King in a variety of roles on offense and potentially special teams, but he'll now be trying to latch on with another organization before training camps begin this summer. The 24-year-old spent four years at Houston before finishing his college career with two seasons as a Hurricane. King completed 64.7% of his passes for 3,453 yards, 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 14 career games at Miami the last two seasons.

  • Why Patriots rookie Tyquan Thornton's blazing 40-yard dash is promising sign

New England is hopeful the second-round receiver, who ran the 40-yard dash in 4.28 seconds at the NFL combine, can make an early impact.

  • Source: Patriots trading QB Stidham to Raiders

The Patriots are finalizing a trade of backup QB Jarrett Stidham to the Raiders, a source confirmed to ESPN, in a deal that also will see the teams flip late-round draft picks.

  • Jarrett Stidham Traded To Raiders

The New England Patriots are trading quarterback Jarrett Stidham and a seventh-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for a sixth-round pick. The 25-year-old Stidham was drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2019 draft out of Auburn. Once seen as a potential successor to Tom Brady, Stidham descended on the depth chart with the team's 2020 signing of Cam Newton and subsequently its 2021 first-round selection of current starting quarterback Mac Jones. Stidham has only seen the field sparingly in eight career games with zero starts, typically only seeing action when games have been out of hand. He had back surgery prior to the 2021 season, relegating him to third-string duties upon his return. Stidham is expected to compete with quarterbacks Nick Mullens and Garrett Gilbert to back up starter Derek Carr, but he is likely to remain behind all of them for now.

  • Patriots Claim Matt Sokol Off Waivers

The New England Patriots claimed tight end Matt Sokol off waivers from the Detroit Lions on Wednesday. Sokol signed a reserve/futures contract with Detroit in January after spending last season on the practice squads of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers. The 26-year-old from Michigan State has played in only two NFL games (back in 2020 with the Chargers), but he didn't see a single target and played only 15 total offensive snaps. There's a good chance Sokol winds up on New England's practice squad this year or back on the open market at some point.
