  • Vikings Not Expected To Extend RB Alexander Mattison

It sounds like Alexander Mattison will definitely hit free agency following the upcoming season. Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press (on Twitter) doesn’t expect the Vikings to extend the running back before the start of the upcoming campaign. The RB told the reporter that he’s “not aware” of any talks between his camp […]

  • K.J. Osborn Has Made Huge Improvements

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver K.J. Osborn may have advanced more than any other play in training camp this summer, and his role in the offense is expected to grow heading into his third NFL season. If Adam Thielen continues to be hampered by injuries in 2022, Osborn has a chance to break out. The 25-year-old made a nice leap in his sophomore season, going from zero targets in nine games in 2020 to 50 catches on 82 targets for 655 yards and seven touchdowns in 2021. Osborn will likely go undrafted in most standard 12-team fantasy football leagues, but he's in the clear lead for the No. 3 receiver job in Minnesota and could be an early season waiver-wire darling.

  • Adam Thielen Looking Like His Old Self

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen looks more like his previous self in training camp this summer, and his play is reminiscent of his most productive stretch from 2016 to 2018. Over that time period, Thielen made his only two Pro Bowls and totaled 273 receptions on 387 targets for 3,616 yards and 18 touchdowns in 48 games. In the last three seasons, he's been limited by injuries and has put up 171 catches on 251 targets for 2,069 yards and 30 touchdowns. While his production has fallen off, his touchdown production hasn't, and the Vikings are expected to continue using him as a red-zone weapon in 2022. Coming off ankle surgery that ended his 2021 season early, the 31-year-old should be a WR3 with touchdown upside in this pass-happy offense.

  • Kellen Mond Has Struggled At Camp

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kellen Mond has struggled at training camp and has thrown interceptions consistently. He's also operating with poor timing and checks down far too often, even in two-minute drills. When he's been forced off platform, his accuracy plummets and he often underthrows wide-open receivers. Mond has yet to win a situational drill in camp this summer. Sean Mannion hasn't played very well either, but he's been much more consistent than Mond. The Athletic's Arif Hasan wouldn't be surprised if the Vikings stick with Mannion as the direct backup to Kirk Cousins to open the regular season.

  • Justin Jefferson Having Incredible Training Camp

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson continues to have an incredible training camp this summer, and opposing cornerbacks have done little to limit him. He is winning on every route in every situation. It's no secret that Jefferson will be the focus of the offense, and camp practices have reflected that. Adam Thielen is also looking more like his previous self, with his play more reminiscent of his most productive stretch from 2016 to 2018. Thielen has had some injury-shortened seasons recently. K.J. Osborn could also play a bigger role in the offense in 2022, and he may have improved more than any other player in camp. Jefferson has 196 catches on 292 targets for 3,016 yards and 17 touchdowns in his two NFL seasons. Once Cooper Kupp comes off the board in fantasy football drafts, Jefferson should be right behind him.

  • Justin Jefferson Getting Moved Around During Camp

Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson has been featured in different parts of the field throughout training camp. In an attempt to exploit opposing defenses this year, head coach Kevin O'Connell, who served as the Rams offensive coordinator last season, plans on utilizing Jefferson the same way Cooper Kupp was showcased in 2021-22. The 23-year-old has been a fantastic addition to fantasy rosters, accumulating 3,016 yards and 17 touchdowns off 196 catches since being drafted in 2020. Although Kupp should continue to be a reliable asset for managers in all formats, Jefferson's skill set could allow him to finish as the year's top fantasy wideout.

  • Vikings C Garrett Bradbury In Danger Of Losing Starting Job

Vikings center Garrett Bradbury is in danger of losing his starting job, as Mark Craig of the Star Tribune writes. Although Bradbury has handled all of the first-team reps in training camp thus far, head coach Kevin O’Connell admitted that the NC State product does not have the gig sewn up. That is largely a result of […]

  • Vikings "Embrace" Adam Thielen In The Red Zone

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has embraced the ways wide receiver Adam Thielen can be used in his offensive scheme, particularly in the red zone. "The Vikings are doing everything they can to preserve the Cousins-Thielen scoring connection," per Kevin Seifert of ESPN. The 31-year-old has a knack for finding the end zone and caught 24 touchdowns over the last two seasons. "He's always been strong with the football," Cousins said. "He has great natural hands, great body control, and he plays big. He plays big and strong, and he runs big and strong. That shows up in the red zone and in tight windows and in tight coverage." Thielen will be quarterback Kirk Cousins' top option in the red zone and is a touchdown-dependent WR3 in upcoming fantasy drafts.

  • Alexander Mattison Suffers Finger Injury

Minnesota Vikings running back Alexander Mattison (finger) has been an overqualified backup, consistently producing big games when called upon. Mattison has become an annual must-draft player as an insurance back with elite upside when Dalvin Cook misses time due to injury. Mattison reportedly left practice Tuesday with a finger injury, remaining on the sidelines after that. While little is known about the extent of the injury, it will be important to monitor. Hopefully, Mattison returns to the field soon and resumes his role as an immensely talented backup with massive upside.

  • Dalvin Cooks Suffers Hand Injury

Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook (hand) has been incredibly productive throughout his career, limited only by injuries. Cook has never played an entire season, missing at least two games in each of his four years as a starter. Cook reportedly left practice Tuesday with a hand injury. He came back in for one play before sitting out the remainder of the practice. It is too early to speculate on the severity of the injury, but hopefully Cook can get healthy soon and remain healthy throughout the 2022 season, en route to another top-five finish at his position.

  • Irv Smith Jr. Undergoes Thumb Surgery

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said that tight end Irv Smith Jr. (thumb) underwent surgery on his thumb on Tuesday, but he's expected to return for the start of the regular season. Smith missed the end of training camp practice on Monday with an undisclosed injury, and it looks like it was related to his thumb injury. While it's good news that the 23-year-old should be ready for Week 1, he's going to lose valuable repetitions with quarterback Kirk Cousins as he attempts to hold down the team's top pass-catching duties at the position. A meniscus injury kept Smith out for all of the 2021 season, but he still has plenty of fantasy upside in an offense that will throw the ball often. Smith had 30 catches for 365 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games (seven starts) in 2020, and he should be considered a TE2 with upside going into the 2022 season.
