  • Josh Jacobs Sees Plenty Of Work In Preseason Opener

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs started in the Hall of Fame preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday and played in multiple series, rushing five times for 30 yards while adding two catches for 14 yards. "I always think it's good for backs to carry the ball in the preseason," head coach Josh McDaniels said. "There's a lot of things that happen when you're getting tackled and hit that you can't simulate in practice." Jacobs' heavy involvement in the first preseason raised eyebrows, but he's battling Kenyan Drake and rookie Zamir White for snaps in the offense this year. White looked good Thursday, running for 52 yards on 11 carries, also catching three of four targets for 23 yards. The Raiders backfield could be headed for a committee approach involving Jacobs, Drake and White in 2022.

There has been plenty of contract talk with the Raiders and Perryman has made his case for a long-term deal.

  • No Concern Over Chandler Jones

Las Vegas Raiders linebacker Chandler Jones has now missed the last four training camp practices, but there is no concern or anything to worry about with Jones. The Raiders aren't disclosing any further information about why Jones isn't participating, but it's obviously a personal issue that isn't deemed serious. The 32-year-old is entering his first season with the Black and Silver after recording 10.5 sacks, 41 tackles (31 solo), 12 tackles for loss, 26 QB hits, four passes defensed, six forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in 15 starts for the Arizona Cardinals last year. The four-time Pro Bowler should rejoin the Raiders on the practice field soon.

  • Raiders Place OLB Kyler Fackrell On IR

Kyler Fackrell‘s Raiders time could be shortlived. The team placed the veteran edge rusher on injured reserve Friday, clearing a roster spot for running back addition Austin Walter. The Raiders reached an agreement to add Fackrell in March, adding the former Packers, Giants and Chargers edge on a one-year deal worth $1.19MM. The Raiders guaranteed […]

  • Jarrett Stidham Leading The Backup QB Battle

Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jarrett Stidham is leading the way in the backup QB battle with Nick Mullens early in training camp. Stidham is familiar with the system from his time working with head coach Josh McDaniels in New England. He looked poised and made a few nice throws in practice on Thursday. Mullens has more NFL experience than Stidham, but Stidham could be Derek Carr's primary backup in 2022 based on his familiarity with McDaniels alone. In two seasons with the Patriots, Stidham played in eight games (zero starts) and completed 50% of his 48 attempts for 270 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.

  • Zamir White Expected To Return To Practice Soon

Las Vegas Raiders rookie running back Zamir White (undisclosed) has been out of training camp practices since last week with an undisclosed issue, but he is expected to return to practice within the next week, according to a source. The fact that the Raiders didn't place White on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin camp was the first sign that his injury isn't a long-term issue. The 22-year-old fourth-rounder could be the future of the Raiders backfield in years to come, but he'll be battling for playing time behind Josh Jacobs and pass-catching back Kenyan Drake in 2022. White could handle some early down/short-yardage work next to Jacobs this year, but he probably won't be anything more than an RB4/5 in single-season fantasy leagues. He's much more attractive in dynasty/keeper setups.

  • Josh Jacobs Likely To Share Touches This Year

Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs is expected to share touches with Kenyan Drake this season. Drake, who is working his way back into shape after breaking his ankle in December, is predicted to have a "significant role," according to Tashan Reed of The Athletic. This means that not only will Jacobs see less carries, but he'll also receive fewer looks from quarterback Derek Carr on the receiving end. Unquestionably, the committee approach isn't ideal for fantasy managers. Still, Jacobs should have some solid outings in 2022-23. The same sentiment holds true for Drake. Yet, neither will likely be a routine fantasy producer, although an injury could open things up for either man throughout the year.

  • Kenyan Drake To Play "Significant" Role In Rotation

Las Vegas Raiders running back Kenyan Drake "will play a significant role in the rotation" this season, according to Tashan Reed of The Athletic. Drake suffered a broken right ankle in Week 13 of the 2021-22 campaign and had surgery in December. However, he was cleared for training camp and continues to work his way back into shape. Nonetheless, with Drake and Josh Jacobs expected to share snaps out of the backfield this season, both men likely won't be consistent fantasy producers. Yet, with Jacobs having trouble staying healthy over the years, Drake has a chance to be more involved, which should positively impact fantasy managers. The 28-year-old is a proven runner, racking up 29 touchdowns on the ground throughout his career, and his ability to catch passes will give him even more appeal in PPR formats.

  • Zamir White Misses Third Straight Practice Tuesday

Las Vegas Raiders running back Zamir White has missed each of the team's last three practices with an undisclosed injury. It's not clear at this point if he's dealing with something significant or not. However, the fact that he was not placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list suggests that he won't be out long. The 22-year-old was taken in the fourth round of this past year's NFL draft after he rushed for 856 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior at the University of Georgia. The Raiders have a bit of a crowded backfield this coming year with Josh Jacobs leading the way and veterans Kenyan Drake and Brandon Bolden also in the mix. White is a worthwhile stash in dynasty leagues, but isn't someone who should be drafted in any season-long leagues this year.

  • Denzelle Good To Retire

The Las Vegas Raiders placed veteran offensive guard/tackle Denzelle Good on the Reserve/Retired list on Monday. He started 43 games in seven NFL seasons after being taken in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL draft by the Indianapolis Colts out of Mars Hill College. Good started a career-high 14 games for the Raiders in 2020 before he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in his knee in the season opener last year. It's bad news for the Raiders offensive line with training camp starting last week, as the 31-year-old offensive lineman was expected to open the year in a starting role at guard.

  • Darren Waller To Play Regardless Of Contract Status

Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller stated he's leaving contract talks to his agent, adding, "whatever happens with that, I'm here playing." There was speculation the veteran would consider holding out. However, Waller reported to camp on Wednesday, supporting his claim that he'll be on the field this season regardless of the outcome of negotiations. The 28-year-old has been a relatively reliable fantasy option over the years, although he finished the 2021-22 campaign with 55 catches for 865 yards and two touchdowns, appearing in only 11 games due to injury. Nonetheless, Waller has an excellent chance of bouncing back this year, especially with Davante Adams expected to command most of the attention of opposing defenses.

  • Josh Jacobs To Be Stuck In Committee Backfield?

Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson suggests that the Las Vegas Raiders will be going with a situational committee approach in their backfield this year, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see the position get entirely revamped next offseason with Josh Jacobs in a contract year in 2022. New head coach Josh McDaniels comes over from the New England Patriots, where they often employed a committee approach to their backfield that gave fantasy managers fits. This could be similar with Jacobs, pass-catching back Kenyan Drake, rookie Zamir White and Brandon Bolden all involved on a weekly basis. The writing was on the wall when the Raiders declined Jacobs' fifth-year option, and it was further solidified when they drafted White. With all that said, Jacobs should now be considered a low-end RB2/high-end RB3 in fantasy drafts.
