  • C.J. Beathard Not Playing Against Raiders

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback C.J. Beathard (groin) won't play during the preseason matchup against Las Vegas. The 28-year-old is still working his way back from a groin injury sustained a few months ago. With Trevor Lawrence also getting the night off, Jake Luton will start and handle most of the work under center. Kyle Sloter may also receive some reps, although Luton has a better chance to be the more impactful DFS option.

  • Jake Luton Starting On Thursday Night

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Jake Luton will start during Thursday's Hall of Fame Game versus Las Vegas. Trevor Lawrence won't see any action in the preseason bout, and backup C.J. Beathard (groin) has been limited throughout training camp. As a result, Luton will get some reps, with Kyle Sloter also in line to see the field. As a result, there is room for the duo in single-game DFS contests. While Luton may get more snaps, both should be motivated as they look to cement their place on the regular season roster.

  • James Robinson Making Daily Progress

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson (Achilles) is making daily progress from his Achilles injury that he suffered last December, and he started this week by taking the practice field for a few repetitions to run some routes with the offense on Monday. Robinson is still limited, but he looks to be progressing nicely in terms of being ready for the regular season. Last week, head coach Doug Pederson said he felt a return in mid-August could be an estimation for Robinson to be 100%. Pederson also said in the spring that the 23-year-old remains the starter, although Travis Etienne Jr. will see plenty of work out of the backfield as a pass-catcher. Etienne is the sexier fantasy pick, especially in PPR leagues, and has been impressive so far, but fantasy managers shouldn't forget about Robinson as an RB3/4 for depth in standard-scoring leagues.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Misses Practice With Illness

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. (illness) was not at practice on Tuesday due to an illness. The 23-year-old has already been ruled out of Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Las Vegas Raiders, however, he would have been held out of action regardless. In his absence, John Shipley reports that rookie running back Snoop Conner has been getting some time with the first-team offense in team drills. There have been reports that James Robinson (Achilles) is still viewed as the team's lead back, but there is still enough to go around for Etienne to produce solid RB2 numbers for fantasy managers this season. The former Clemson collegiate star figures to be the primary pass-catching back, which gives him more appeal in PPR formats than his backfield mate.

  • Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne Jr. Won't Play Thursday

Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will not play in Thursday's Hall of Fame game against the Las Vegas Raiders, per head coach Doug Pederson. Jake Luton will get the start while C.J. Beathard (groin) will also be among the team's inactives. Travis Etienne Jr. won't suit up either, as the team will take a cautious approach with last year's first-round pick who missed his rookie season with a foot injury. As James Robinson (Achilles) still recovers from a torn Achilles he suffered late last season, Snoop Conner will likely see the most action out of the backfield in the team's first preseason game.

  • James Robinson Still Viewed As Top Back

Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said in the spring that the team still views running back James Robinson (Achilles) as the top back, and the team didn't place him on the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin training camp. However, Travis Etienne Jr. will be heavily involved in the passing game and has lined up out wide and in the slot multiple times in practices. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor said he can see Etienne being used similar to the way the Eagles used Brian Westbrook years ago. ESPN's Michael DiRocco guesses that Robinson will have more carries than Etienne, but Etienne could have a slight lead in total touches by season's end. Etienne has gotten all the hype so far in practices and is the higher-ceiling back for sure in PPR formats, but don't sleep on Robinson as an RB3/flex type in standard-scoring leagues.

  • Evan Engram Having Uneven Training Camp

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram has had a rough start to his first training camp with the team. He has gotten a ton of run with the first-team offense and has flashed his talent after the catch when he's in space as a receiver and a runner. However, he's had consistency issues as a pass-catcher in three of five practices so far. Engram has had some egregious drops (one that led to an interception in the red zone). Dropped passes and inconsistency has been Engram's Achilles' heel in his career to this point, so it's concerning that it's still happening with his new team. The 27-year-old is explosive with the ball in his hands, but can quarterback Trevor Lawrence consistently hook up with him in 2022? Fantasy managers should consider Engram a low-end TE2 until further notice.

  • Travon Walker Flashes In Saturday's Practice

Jacksonville Jaguars rookie pass-rusher Travon Walker, the No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft, flashed his potential in Saturday's training camp practice. He managed to find his way into the backfield on multiple occasions, whether against the run or pass. Walker quickly disposed of the second-team offensive line and tight ends when given a chance. As a pass-rusher, he showed bend and explosion and recorded a few pressures while at linebacker. In the run game, he was able to reset the line of scrimmage thanks to his length and powerful punch. Walker has done nothing but take first-team repetitions at outside linebacker so far, and the Jaguars aren't forcing him to play multiple roles. It's clear he's going to play early and often in his rookie campaign.

  • Travis Etienne Jr. Impressing In Training Camp

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne Jr. has arguably been the biggest star of training camp so far, picking up at least one explosive gain in each practice. At this point, he looks like the most dangerous potential weapon the Jaguars have on offense. Concerns about him keeping his trademark speed and explosiveness after a Lisfranc foot injury sidelined him his whole rookie season have mostly been put to bed. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence said the former first-rounder even looks to be in better physical shape than he was during their last year at Clemson. The Jaguars are also moving him around quite bit and is getting the ball in a variety of ways. Even when James Robinson returns in mid-August, Etienne should see plenty of touches, making him a rising RB2 target in fantasy in 2022.

  • Jaguars Cut Andrew Mevis, Sign Elliott Fry

The Jacksonville Jaguars cut rookie kicker Andrew Mevis and signed veteran kicker Elliott Fry on Friday after Mevis wildly missed three field-goal tries during training camp warmups -- one of his misses hit former Dallas Cowboys head coach Dave Campo. Fry has only appeared in three games in his time with the Bears, Ravens, Panthers, Buccaneers, Falcons, Chiefs, Packers and Bengals. The 27-year-old has made five of his six field goals and five of seven extra points in his two NFL seasons. He went 14-for-14 on field-goal attempts for the Orlando Apollos of the AAF in 2019. Mevis was signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason to compete with Ryan Santoso. Fantasy managers should avoid the kicking situation in Jacksonville.

  • James Robinson Not On PUP List To Start Training Camp

Jacksonville Jaguars running back James Robinson (Achilles) will not start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list after suffering a torn Achilles in Week 16 of the 2021 season. Head coach Doug Pederson says that Robinson is "hopeful" for a mid-August return, which would be just seven months after he suffered the injury. If the 23-year-old is able to suit up in Week 1, it'll make the Jacksonville backfield a two-headed monster along with Travis Etienne Jr. It is unclear how much of a workload Robinson will be able to handle out of the gate, but Pederson views the third-year stud as a three-down back. Still, Etienne should not be ignored even if Robinson is healthy when Week 1 rolls around. The presence of one another likely puts a cap on each of their upsides, but Etienne could be the more appealing option in PPR formats because of his pass-catching ability and rapport with quarterback Trevor Lawrence going back to their time at Clemson.

  • Kyle Sloter Has Visit With Jags

Free-agent quarterback Kyle Sloter visited the Jaguars on Saturday. The 28-year-old went undrafted in 2017 and spent the following years on practice squads for various clubs. He recently suited up for the New Orleans Breakers of the USFL, finishing the 2022 campaign with 1,798 yards, 11 interceptions, and nine touchdowns while completing 57.7% of his throws. If signed, Sloter will compete with C.J. Beathard, Jake Luton, and E.J. Perry for the No. 2 spot behind Trevor Lawrence. However, the journeyman signal-caller has some work to do before earning consideration as a legit fantasy option moving ahead.
