  • Drew Sample To Miss A Couple Weeks

Cincinnati Bengals tight end Drew Sample (knee) is currently wearing a brace and walking with a crutch. Head coach Zac Taylor mentioned that Sample is likely to miss a few weeks. The 26-year-old suffered the injury during practice on Thursday and was carted off the field. It sounds like Sample should be ready in time for the beginning of the season. He put together a 40-catch season in 2020, but didn't make much of an impact in 2021. It's tough to imagine Sample bringing much to the table this upcoming season.

  • Joe Burrow Back With The Team

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (appendix) was back in the team's locker room at training camp on Thursday and seemed to be walking OK across the locker room. Burrow had surgery last Tuesday to remove his appendix, and head coach Zac Taylor said at the time that there was no timetable on Burrow's return. It's good news that the 25-year-old is back with the Bengals, but it doesn't mean he'll return to practice right away, and he could be eased back into drills when he's ready. Brandon Allen has been handling most of the first-team repetitions. Burrow will probably be held out of the first preseason game as well, but he should be all systems go for the regular season. With some of the best receivers in the league at his disposal, Burrow will be a strong QB1 selection going into his third year.

  • Hayden Hurst Impressing Teammates

The Cincinnati Bengals signed tight end Hayden Hurst to replace C.J. Uzomah, who signed with the New York Jets this offseason. Hurst struggled in 2021, in large part because of the ineptitude of the Falcons offense, producing only 26 receptions for 226 yards and three touchdowns. However, the Bengals offense will be much more potent and should offer Hurst increased opportunity. Bengals safety Michael Thomas described Hurst "as advertised," confirming he is fitting in well in his new offense. The former third-round pick will have a chance to produce a high touchdown total, leading to spike-week performances. This makes him an intriguing option as a late-round tight end that could finish inside the top 12, and an even more valuable pick in best-ball formats.

  • Tee Higgins Participates In 11-on-11 Drills

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins had a fantastic season in 2021, finishing as the WR22, in half-PPR scoring. He also proved he can, in fact, co-exist with superstar receiver Ja'Maar Chase while producing for fantasy. Higgins (shoulder) has been unable to partake in training camp activities thus far but made progress yesterday, getting full clearance and participating in 11-on-11 drills against the scout team. This is promising news for the third-year receiver who figures to be an integral part of the Bengals offense again in 2022 and possesses top-15 upside at the position.

  • No Timetable For Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor isn't putting a timetable on when quarterback Joe Burrow (appendix) will return to training camp practices after undergoing an appendectomy earlier this week. There don't appear to be any concerns that Burrow will be out for too long, but the Bengals clearly aren't rushing him back onto the field. "I don't have any timetable," Taylor said on Saturday. "We're just trying to give him some privacy, and I'm sure he'll be back in when he's ready." There's a good chance that Burrow will be eased back into work once he returns to the team, but he'll be ready in plenty of time for the start of the regular season. After an immense bounce-back season in his second NFL campaign, Burrow is a strong QB1 target for fantasy managers in 2022.

  • La'el Collins Has No Timetable

Cincinnati Bengals right tackle La'el Collins (back) reportedly has no timetable to return from the Non-Football injury list. The 28-year-old said his back flared up on him following organized team activities in the spring. The Bengals signed Collins to a three-year deal worth $30 million this offseason. He was expected to be a key piece to their offensive line for this upcoming season. Offensive line coach Frank Pollack mentioned he'll likely start off slow as he learns a new offensive system. It doesn't sound like the organization is too concerned, but his status is up in the air and he's without a timetable to return.

  • Samaje Perine Good To Go

Cincinnati Bengals running back Samaje Perine was removed from the PUP list on Wednesday. The veteran missed all of OTAs with an undisclosed issue after finishing the 2021-22 campaign with 246 yards off 55 carries while adding 27 catches for 196 yards. He also combined for two touchdowns. Nonetheless, with Chris Evans expected to have a good chance of taking over the No. 2 spot behind Joe Mixon this season, Perine's fantasy stock may continue to plummet. However, considering Mixon's injury history, Perine or Evans may gain late-round fantasy value as an insurance policy, so fantasy managers will surely want to monitor the backup battle throughout training camp.

  • Joe Burrow Having Surgery On Appendix

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow (appendix) is undergoing surgery to remove his appendix, according to a source. He will miss some practice time at training camp as a result. Better now than during the regular season. The 25-year-old former first overall pick bounced back in a big way from a serious knee injury in his rookie year by completing a league-high 70.4% of his 520 passing attempts in 2021 for 4,611 yards, 34 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 16 regular season games before leading the Bengals to a Super Bowl appearance. Burrow also led the league in yards gained per attempt (8.9), adjusted yards gained per pass attempt (9.0), but he was also sacked a league-high 51 times. With a better offensive line in front of him, Burrow should be a safe QB1 selection once the elite names come off the board.

  • Jessie Bates III Won't Report To Training Camp

Cincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates III won't report to training camp on Tuesday. The franchise safety will holdout until he gets a new contract. However, the deadline for a long-term extension has already passed. The 25-year-old already said that he won't play on a franchise tag. At this point, Bates getting traded seems like the best resolution considering the circumstances. There is still time for Bates to change his mind or the two sides to resolve their differences. Although, it seems unlikely that Bates is going to suit up for the Bengals anytime soon.

  • Bengals Focus Is To Extend Joe Burrow

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is one of the brightest young stars in the game right now. That being said, the organization mentioned that extending Burrow is the main focus of the team. The 25-year-old will be eligible for a contract extension at the end of the season. He'll certainly get a hefty contract with the way he has been playing since returning from his torn ACL. It wouldn't be shocking to see Burrow get a deal in the range of $200 million. Regardless, it sounds like the organization is committed to bringing back Burrow as their long term future quarterback.

  • Bengals Not Expected To Trade Jessie Bates III

Cincinnati Bengals safety Jessie Bates III isn't likely to be traded, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. The 25-year-old reportedly won't play on a franchise tag this season after both sides couldn't reach an agreement ahead of the July 15 deadline. As a result, Bates isn't expected at camp, although Cincy is undoubtedly hoping he'll change his mind and be on the field for the 2022-23 campaign. Fantasy managers are also, especially since the Bengals won't be as potent on the defensive end without him.

  • La'el Collins Lands On Active/Non-Football Injury List

Cincinnati Bengals tackle La'el Collins will begin training camp on the active/non-football injury list. The 28-year-old signed a three-year, $30 million contract this offseason and was a key addition for Cincy as the team prioritized adding more protection for Joe Burrow and Joe Mixon in 2022-23. Collins can be activated anytime, and while it's not guaranteed, he should be ready for Week 1.

  • Samaje Perine Lands On PUP List With Undisclosed Injury

Cincinnati Bengals running back Samaje Perine (undisclosed) will begin training camp on the active/PUP list. The 26-year-old is currently dealing with an unknown injury. He can be activated at any point and start practicing. However, with Chris Evans already expected to battle Perine to become Joe Mixon's routine backup this season, an extended absence could force him out of the No. 2 spot on the depth chart heading into Week 1.
