  • Kenny Pickett Listed As No. 3 QB On Depth Chart

In the Pittsburgh Steelers first depth chart, rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett is listed as the No. 3 QB, behind Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. Although reports haven't been great on Trubisky's performance this summer, he's consistently been the starter in training camp practices, and he's essentially been told the starting job is his to lose heading into the regular season. Rookie wide receiver George Pickens, a second-round pick, is currently listed as one of the team's three starting receivers. Fellow rookie wideout Calvin Austin III is on the fourth string. Pickett, a first-round selection, has struggled with patience so far in camp and could sit all of his first season in the NFL, barring injuries to Trubisky or Rudolph.

  • Kenny Pickett Off To A Rough Start

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett had a rough first three days of training camp last week. The first-round pick has been erratic and inconsistent throwing the football, and he has taken all of his repetitions with the third-team offense so far. It has some believing it will be impossible for him to improve quickly enough to be the Week 1 starter, especially if Mitch Trubisky keeps progressing. Pickett has been running for his life behind the third-string offensive line. When Pickett did have time to throw on Friday, his receivers didn't really help him out. The starting QB gig is Trubisky's to lose at this point, and although Pickett could see some starts later in the year depending on how Trubisky plays, it's unrealistic to expect him to start early on in 2022.

  • Kenny Pickett Struggles In Second Camp Practice

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett struggled in his second training camp practice on Thursday, throwing an interception on his first live, team-period repetition. He also had an interception to end Wednesday's practice. Pickett has consistently taken reps with the third-stringers, but the early struggles aren't a major cause for concern. Head coach Mike Tomlin isn't evaluating his options on a throw-by-throw basis. It's good news for Pickett as he heads into his first NFL season, but as of right now, Mitch Trubisky is the heavy favorite to start under center for the Steelers in Week 1. Trubisky won't have a very long leash, but there's a good chance Pickett could open the year as the No. 3 behind Trubisky and Mason Rudolph.
