  • Connor Heyward Showing Chemistry With Kenny Pickett

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie tight end Connor Heyward, the younger brother of Steelers pass-rusher Cameron Heyward, impressed in offseason workouts and showed chemistry with first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett during minicamp. The sixth-round selection is expected to be a hybrid tight end/fullback in an offense that values versatility in its skill players. The 23-year-old has mostly been working with the tight ends and receivers, so he's unlikely to be competing for the fullback spot with Derek Watt in training camp. It remains to be seen if Heyward will actually become a threat as a pass-catching tight end in Pittsburgh, but he's one to watch moving forward because of his versatility.

  • Kenny Pickett Receives Third-String Reps

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett only received third-string repetitions in organized team activities and mandatory minicamp. Getting NFL-ready with limited first-team repetitions in training camp and three preseason games won't track Pickett to start anytime soon. Unless Mitchell Trubisky gets hurt or plays terribly in camp and the preseason, it's difficult to see a scenario where he doesn't start the season as the starter, according to The Athletic's Mark Kaboly. Whether Pickett sees starts in his rookie season will depend on how well Trubisky plays. Pickett is Pittsburgh's QB of the future, but fantasy managers in single-year leagues should avoid him to begin the year.

  • Kenny Pickett Signs Rookie Deal

The Pittsburgh Steelers signed first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett to a four-year rookie deal on Thursday, according to a source. Pickett came into this year's draft as the most pro-ready signal-caller, but he'll have to beat out Mitchell Trubisky in training camp for the starting gig in his rookie season. The most likely scenario is that Trubisky is starting in Week 1, with Pickett getting his first shot if Trubisky falls flat early on. The 24-year-old threw for 4,319 yards, 42 touchdowns and seven interceptions in his final year in college, and he can also be a threat running the football. The Steelers are hoping he's the long-term solution after Ben Roethlisberger retired last year.
