  • Elijah Mitchell A Borderline Flex Option

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell faces a New Orleans Saints defense that has allowed the eighth-most rushing yards to opposing RBs this season. In Week 10, Najee Harris went for 99 rushing yards on the Saints defense, and in Week 9, both Kenyan Drake and Lamar Jackson eclipsed 80 yards. Mitchell has continued to have a role in the 49ers offense even after Christian McCaffrey joined the team. Although his carry total declined from Week 10 to 11, he was still able to gain 59 yards on nine carries. He is efficient enough as a rusher, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt and 2.2 yards after contact, that he remains a borderline flex option.

  • Elijah Mitchell Leads 49ers In Rushing

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell carried the ball nine times for 59 yards in the Niners' 38-10 Monday Night Football victory over the Arizona Cardinals. The 24-year-old led the team in both carries and rushing yardage. San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan is sticking to his plan to split carries. In fact, Mitchell has garnered more carries than his teammate Christian McCaffrey in both of the past two games when both were active. Mitchell did have fewer snaps than McCaffery and fewer touches than McCaffrey in the first half, and both lead running backs sat for most of the fourth quarter. Mitchell remains a strong flex option in Week 12 when the 49ers host the New Orleans Saints.

  • Elijah Mitchell Has Workload For Flex In Week 11

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell, who is facing the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11, has continued to shoulder a large enough workload to be fantasy-relevant ever since Christian McCaffrey joined the Niners. Last week, in Mitchell's return to the field following his ankle injury suffered in Week 1, the 24-year-old rushed for 89 yards on 18 carries. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan said that his choice to involve Mitchell was deliberate. With two talented running backs rotating, they will both be fresh. "I think both of them can handle the load and do it all," Shanahan said after a practice this week. McCaffrey is still the 1a and the elite of the two, but Mitchell can be an effective flex option some weeks. The Cardinals are an above-average defense against the run, but Mitchell should be an effective flex with low-end RB2 potential.

  • Elijah Mitchell Surprisingly Heavily Involved

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell returned from the injured reserve and made a splash on Sunday. The 24-year-old had only played in one game until Sunday, but looked like he was in mid-season form. Mitchell rushed 18 times for 89 yards with one reception through the air as well. It was shocking to see Mitchell get this significant of a workload in this first back game. He saw more carries than Christian McCaffrey, which probably won't happen every week. This is a great sign for fantasy managers who were holding onto Mitchell through the injury. Possibly, Mitchell can have some low-end RB2 value heading into their Week 11 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals.

  • Elijah Mitchell Officially Activated From Injured Reserve

San Francisco 49ers running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) has been activated from injured reserve. He is expected to be active Sunday, serving as Christian McCaffrey's backup. The 24-year-old rushed six times for 41 yards back in Week 1 before exiting due to injury. Although he won't be the featured back in San Francisco's offense, Mitchell will likely be used in a change-of-pace role, making him an RB4 in fantasy football.

  • Elijah Mitchell To Return Against Chargers

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that running back Elijah Mitchell (knee) will be activated from Injured Reserve before the Week 10 game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. Mitchell led the Niners in rushing in 2021 as a rookie and entered the 2022 campaign as their lead back, but it didn't last long after he was injured in the season opener. Now with Christian McCaffrey as San Fran's leading rusher out of the backfield, Mitchell will be returning to a change-of-pace role, which will give him a very low fantasy ceiling and floor on a weekly basis. The 24-year-old went from being a must-start fantasy RB in Week 1 to basically only a handcuff option for CMC now. He shouldn't be trusted in starting lineups this weekend.
