  • Bucs Not Getting Hopes Up With Chris Godwin

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles said "we're not getting our hopes up" with wide receiver Chris Godwin (knee). Bowles said that Godwin is a long way from returning to a full practice routine. Godwin returned to training camp practice on Friday for the first time since having surgery for a torn ACL. The 26-year-old was only doing some straight-line running and individual drills on Friday, easing his way back in. There's a chance that he'll be ready for the Week 1 regular season opener, but that's not guaranteed at this point, and Tampa won't rush him back. The presence of Russell Gage and Julio Jones will allow the team to be more conservative. Right now, Godwin is a WR3 selection in fantasy drafts with clear upside for more if he's ready to go by Week 1.

  • Chris Godwin Practicing Friday

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (knee) is practicing on Friday for the first time since he had surgery for a torn ACL. He is practicing with a brace on his surgically repaired right knee. It was big news when Godwin didn't begin training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and now he's back at practice after sitting out a few practices. There is hope that the 26-year-old can be ready for the Week 1 season opener, which would be bad news for Russell Gage and veteran Julio Jones. It doesn't mean that Godwin will be lights-out early in the season, but the fact that he's already back at practice this summer should make fantasy managers more comfortable taking him as a WR2 in their upcoming drafts.

  • Chris Godwin Cleared To Begin Training Camp

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (knee) has been cleared to begin training camp despite having knee surgery Jan. 3 for a torn ACL. The Buccaneers obviously won't push Godwin in training camp, but this is big news for the 26-year-old wideout this summer. The fact that he won't begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list is a good sign that he could be ready for Week 1, although that's still up in the air. The Bucs also signed seven-time Pro Bowler Julio Jones on Tuesday, giving the team a little more insurance in case Godwin isn't ready to go for the season opener. Godwin had a career-high 98 receptions for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns in 14 games before his injury in 2021, and although he's riskier in 2022 because of his injury, he could be an excellent value pick as a WR3 if he's healthy and ready to go by Week 1.
