Falcons Name Marcus Mariota Starting QB
This will not qualify as particularly surprising news, but the Falcons have named Marcus Mariota their starting quarterback. On the first day of training camp earlier this week, quarterbacks coach Charles London confirmed that Mariota will serve as Atlanta’s QB1, while third-round rookie Desmond Ridder will begin his pro career as Mariota’s backup. “Obviously, we've […]
Jul 31 · Pro Football Rumors Falcons Marcus MariotaMarcus Mariota Looking Good In Training Camp
Although it's early in training camp, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota has looked good. Unofficially, he's completed all 24 passes he's thrown so far, but a lot of them have been short throws and he was bailed out a few times on Thursday on nice plays from his tight ends. Rookie third-rounder Desmond Ridder also looks to be getting a handle on the offense early on, but he also held onto the ball too long on multiple occasions. The Falcons will roll with Mariota to begin the 2022 season, but this could be a competition to watch all season long. If Mariota is injured or struggles, the Falcons may not hesitate to throw Ridder in there. Given Atlanta's lack of high-end offensive weapons, Mariota is a QB to avoid outside of deep superflex leagues.

Marcus Mariota Dubbed Starting Quarterback
Atlanta Falcons quarterback Marcus Mariota currently owns the starting job, according to assistant coach Charles London. However, London didn't forget to acknowledge rookie signal-caller Desmond Ridder, telling reporters, "Obviously, we've got a plan for each of them." Mariota will be entering his eighth season since being drafted in 2015. Throughout his career, he's compiled 13,437 yards, 77 touchdowns, and 45 interceptions while completing nearly 63% of his throws. Unquestionably, the veteran has had some solid performances over the years. Still, he has also had his fair share of disastrous ones. Mariota probably won't be a consistent fantasy option in 2022-23, but he deserves a spot in most formats, at least as a backup. Yet, if he begins to play poorly at any point during the year, Ridder would likely take his place under center.
