  • Chris Godwin Signs Franchise Tender

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin signed his $15.9 million franchise tender on Thursday, locking it in for the 2021 season in case he is unable to agree to a long-term contract extension with the team. While Godwin has been somewhat of an injury risk, he will remain a high-end fantasy commodity in 2021 with quarterback Tom Brady still in the fold in Tampa. The 25-year-old had 65 receptions on 84 targets for 840 yards and seven touchdowns in 12 games during the regular season last year. He was a Pro Bowler in 2019, securing a career-high 86 of his 121 targets for 1,333 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns in 14 games for the Buccaneers. Mike Evans is Brady's favorite red-zone weapons, but Godwin should continue to be a high-end producer as long as he stays on the field.

  • Chris Godwin Says He'd Play On Franchise Tag

Tampa Bay Buccaneers impending free-agent wide receiver Chris Godwin would love to return to the Buccaneers and said he'd be willing to play on the franchise tag in 2021. The four-year pro wouldn't be ecstatic about that outcome, but he'd be willing to accept the tag should the team go in that direction. Godwin was a key contributor during Tampa's Super Bowl run last season after being a third-round pick in 2017. Wide receivers are projected to earn $16.43 million on a 2021 franchise tag ($14.26 million on the transition tag), according to Over the Cap. The 25-year-old would prefer a little more long-term security, but he's also willing to sacrifice a few dollars to play for a contender. After catching 81 passes for 1,072 yards and eight touchdowns in 2020, Godwin will remain a highly coveted fantasy wideout if he sticks in Tampa with quarterback Tom Brady.

  • Chris Godwin Likely To Be Franchise Tagged By Buccaneers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is likely to be franchise tagged by the team this offseason. The team wants Godwin back- and he wants to return, though he made it clear that he is seeking a long-term payday. The window to tag players opened on Tuesday, but the Buccaneers will likely work towards an extension first before utilizing the more team-friendly $15.8 million tag. Even if Godwin is tagged, the two sides can continue to work on a long-term agreement up until mid-July. The 24-year-old wideout was a Pro Bowler in 2019- and while he took a step back in 2020 due to injuries, he was still Tom Brady's favorite target when on the field, as evidenced by his 7.2 targets per game in the regular season and playoffs combined, the best of any Bucs' pass-catcher.

  • Buccaneers Want To Retain Their Free Agents

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians hopes that the allure of winning another championship in 2021 can pull most of the team's impending free-agents back for another season. That includes players like wide receiver Chris Godwin, defensive end Shaquil Barrett, linebacker Lavonte David, tight end Rob Gronkowski, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh and running back Leonard Fournette. "It's usually the money... if it's close, I think our guys really want to stay," Arians said. The presence of quarterback Tom Brady should entice veterans looking to chase a ring at the end of their careers, and he could also help keep a number of players in Tampa. The Bucs might franchise tag Godwin for around $16 million, as he's one of the top wideouts slated for free agency this offseason. Of all the team's free agents, Godwin is the least likely to leave.

  • Chris Godwin Expected To Return To Bucs

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers don't want impending free-agent wide receiver Chris Godwin going anywhere. The Buccaneers are expected to work on a long-term deal with Godwin, and the franchise tag is available as well. Godwin was quiet in the 31-9 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV with just two catches for nine yards, but he had 65 receptions for 840 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season in just 12 games in 2021. With future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady returning for another season, Godwin should continue to have WR2 upside for fantasy managers if he returns either on a long-term extension or the franchise tag. In 14 games without Brady in 2019, Godwin had a career-high 86 catches for 1,333 yards and nine visits to the end zone.

  • Chris Godwin Held To Nine Receiving Yards

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin caught just two passes for nine yards in a 31-9 win over Kansas City. Godwin had been on a roll coming into the game, though part of the reason for his ineffectiveness was the game script, as Tampa Bay was virtually in the lead the whole game. The star receiver missed four games with various injuries, though he still managed an 800-yard, seven-touchdown season. Godwin will be a free agent as he heads into his age-25 season- and while Tampa Bay intends to keep him, it may not be financially possible. Depending on where he ends up, Godwin should be valued no lower than a high-end WR2 for 2021 fantasy drafts, as he's just a season removed from an 86-1333-9 stat-line.

  • Chris Godwin A Safe Option Against Chiefs

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin has been the apple of Tom Brady's eye down the stretch and in the playoffs. Godwin has seen at least seven targets in each of his last five games, exceeding 79 receiving yards in four of them. That's the type of volume fantasy managers can depend on when they're trying to build lineups- and Godwin could potentially see even more usage in the Super Bowl with Antonio Brown (knee) banged up. Those who opt to play Godwin will have to pay a fairly hefty price, but he'll be well worth it as the safest option of the Bucs' trio of star wideouts, even against an underrated Chiefs' secondary.

  • Chris Godwin Has 100-Yard Day In Win Over Packers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin enjoyed a strong game in Sunday's NFC title game win over Green Bay. Godwin hauled in five of a team-high nine targets for 110 receiving yards. He came up with a huge, 52-yard grab that led to a Leonard Fournette touchdown in the first half. Godwin has exceeded 70 receiving yards in four of his last five contests and has led the Buccaneers in targets in each of their three playoff wins. While Antonio Brown (knee) will have a good chance of returning in time for the Super Bowl, Godwin should remain Brady's top target for the big game in Tampa Bay.

  • Chris Godwin An Excellent Play In The NFC Championship Game

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is poised for a great showing against the Packers in the NFC Championship game. Godwin has 19 targets in the Buccaneers' two playoff games, a mark that leads the team. He could be in line to receive more work than usual, as Mike Evans will likely have to deal with star corner Jaire Alexander and Antonio Brown (knee) is a game-time decision. The drops have been an issue for Godwin in the postseason, but Tom Brady's trust in him hasn't wavered. He won't be as pricey as Stefon Diggs or Davante Adams, but he could provide similar production, making him a great DFS value play this week.

  • Ronald Jones II, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Practice Wednesday

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Ronald Jones II (quadriceps) and wide receivers Mike Evans (knee) and Chris Godwin (quadriceps) were all limited participants during Wednesday's practice. Jones was able to practice in a limited fashion last week before ultimately suiting up against the Saints, while Evans' and Godwin's reps are being managed as precautions. Jones has a good matchup against Green Bay's front, though he and Leonard Fournette are trending towards a timeshare after head coach Bruce Arians described them as a "1-2 punch." Meanwhile, Evans will likely tango with star corner Jaire Alexander on the outside, as tough a matchup as any. Godwin is due for a rebound performance after dropping a surefire touchdown last week and could see more targets if Evans struggles and Antonio Brown (knee) is banged up.

  • Chris Godwin Paces Team In Targets

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin hauled in four of seven targets for 34 receiving yards in Sunday's victory over New Orleans. Godwin did lead the team in targets, though it could have been a far more productive day had he hauled in a long pass from Tom Brady in the end zone. The drops have certainly been an issue for the fourth-year pro- he has six in two playoff games- though he remains one of Brady's favorite pass-catchers on the roster. Godwin has seen at least six targets in 12 of 14 games, a role that makes him enticing to turn to for fantasy purposes. He'll look to be more productive with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line next week against Green Bay.

  • Chris Godwin A Strong Start Against Saints

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin (hip, quadriceps) has no injury designation and will be out there for the Divisional Round battle against the Saints on Sunday. Godwin is rolling right now, as he has averaged 9.3 targets per game over his last three contests, having produced at least 79 yards and a touchdown in each of them. Fellow wideout Mike Evans will likely have to deal with Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who could potentially take him out of the game. Godwin would likely see more targets if that happens, though he makes for a good DFS play despite the Saints fifth-ranked pass defense. There should be enough targets to go around for Godwin to be a solid WR2 this weekend.

  • Mike Evans, Chris Godwin Limited In Practice

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receivers Mike Evans (knee) and Chris Godwin (hip, quadriceps) and cornerback Carlton Davis (groin) were limited in practice Wednesday. Edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul (knee) did not practice. Barring any setbacks, Evans and Godwin should be good to go against the Saints in the Divisional Round on Sunday night. Evans had six catches (10 targets) for his fifth 100-yard game of the season in the wild-card win over Washington. He managed only five receptions (10 targets) for 66 yards and one score in two games against New Orleans in 2020. He's a volume-based WR1 and is Tom Brady's favorite target, especially in the red zone. Godwin caught five of 12 targets last week for 78 yards and a touchdown last week. He caught nine of 13 targets for 120 yards in two games against the Saints this year and should also see plenty of volume this Sunday night.

  • Chris Godwin Finds End Zone, Has Drop-Filled Performance

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin hauled in five of 12 targets for 79 yards and a score in a playoff victory over Washington. Godwin caught his first career touchdown on a 27-yard throw from Tom Brady but also struggled with drops. He had just four in his career coming into the game before dropping four in the contest, including one that would have gone for six. Still, it didn't stop Brady from looking his way a team-high 12 times, something that bodes well for Godwin's production next week. He'll either face the Saints or the Rams in the divisional round, depending on what happens on Sunday.

  • Chris Godwin A Strong Play In Wild-Card Game

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin is on fire heading into a playoff matchup with the Washington Football Team. Godwin has scored a touchdown in each of his last three games and has at least 80 yards in back-to-back games. While the matchup with the league's second-best pass defense is certainly a tough one, the 24-year-old could see additional targets thrown his way if Mike Evans (knee) is out or limited in any way. This makes Godwin a WR1/2 play this week, though he doesn't have sky-high upside in this matchup.

  • Chris Godwin Gets Season-High 133 Yards

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin finished with five receptions for 133 yards and two scores on seven targets in Week 17. Godwin finished with his best total of 2020 after dealing with injuries throughout the campaign. After a breakout season in 2019 with 1,333 yards, the WR came back down to earth this season but was still a major factor in this offense. He finishes the season with 840 yards and seven touchdowns.

  • Chris Godwin A Low-End WR1 Versus Falcons

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Chris Godwin is a low-end WR1 for Week 17. Godwin has been streaky the past four games he has played, but he has gotten at least nine targets and 84 yards in two of those four games. The Falcons allow the third-most fantasy points to wideouts, so Godwin is a great start in the season finale.

  • Chris Godwin Compiles 84 Yards And A Touchdown

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin hauled in five of nine targets for 84 receiving yards and a touchdown in a blowout win over the Lions. Godwin was far more productive in terms of his yardage numbers this week, as the 84 yards were the most he's had since before the bye week. The star receiver made a highlight-reel play, a one-handed catch for a touchdown, his second in two games. Head coach Bruce Arians may opt to rest his starters in Week 17 with a playoff berth sealed, though Godwin would benefit greatly from a matchup with the Falcons' struggling secondary.

  • Chris Godwin A Good Play Against Lions

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin gets a great matchup against the Lions in Week 16. Godwin's yardage totals have slipped in the last couple of weeks, though he did salvage last week's showing with a touchdown catch. It's a bit concerning for someone who had previously presented fantasy managers with a high floor, though the Lions' shoddy pass defense should allow Godwin to get back to that level of production. Detroit has allowed the third-most yards and seventh-most receptions to receivers, so there should be plenty of room for Godwin and his fellow wideouts to all put up numbers. Expect low-end WR2 production out of Godwin in Week 16.
