This is the place where you come to get the straight cheese on less than desirable, questionably talented, less than 50% owned starting pitchers that you can use for a spot start to get those all-important counting stats without drop-kicking your ratio stats into submission. We are pitcher streaming week 13.
But before we dive into the dumpster looking for junk pitchers we can use this weekend, let’s take a look back at my picks from before I went on vacation back in week 10.
Week 10 Review
|Caleb Smith||6/8 vs. SD||1||5.33||0||4||2||5||W||0.00||1.13|
|Tyler Skaggs||6/9 vs. MIN||1||7.00||1||5||1||8||W||1.29||0.86|
|Total for Week||2||12.33||1||9||3||13||2-0||0.73||0.97|
I also recommended Andrew Heaney vs. the Twins on Sunday, June 10th but his start was pushed back to Monday vs. the Mariners. Things are really starting to click with the Stream-O-Matic 2000. Now that I said that, the wheels will surely come off this week.
Pitcher Streaming Week 13
The pitchers are listed in order of appearance as of Wednesday morning. Ownership info from Yahoo! (Y) and ESPN (E) and all 2018 stats are through Tuesday, June 26th.
RHP Sam Gaviglio, TOR
Owned Y4%/E3% · vs. Detroit Tigers – Saturday, June 30th
Gaviglio comes into the matchup with a 3.98 era, 1.23 whip and 40 strikeouts in 40 2/3 innings. Those numbers are uninspiring but decent. What is inspiring are his numbers when pitching at home: 1.31 era, 1.16 whip and 22 strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings.
The Tigers come into the Rogers Centre with a .281 wOBA (29th), 0.117 iso (29th) and 23.3 k% (17th) when facing RHP on the road. I’m not going to waste any more of your time on this one. You have a RHP who is good at home matching up with a lineup that struggles vs. RHP on the road.
RHP Freddy Peralta, MIL
Owned Y56%/E49% · @ Cincinnati Reds – Sunday, July 1st
With only 22 2/3 innings under his belt, Peralta is putting up a 1.59 era, 0.71 whip and has struck out 35 batters (13.9 k/9). Dude is good. From Scott Pianowski of Yahoo Sports, “thus far 29 pitchers have managed at least two double-digit strikeout starts, and Peralta made it on just four appearances.” In over 400 minor league innings, he put up a 3.20 era, 1.20 whip and a 10.8 k/9 while only allowing 20 homeruns.
The Reds are currently posting a 0.319 wOBA (10th), 0.150 iso (21st) and 23.0 k% (20th) vs. RHP at home. They’re not helpless but they are susceptible to what Peralta can do. That’s striking batters out and minimizing their power.
RHP Seth Lugo, NYM
Owned Y34%/E17% · @ Miami Marlins – Sunday, July 1st
Update 6/30: Looks like Seth’s been bumped to the bullpen. He will not be starting tomorrow in Miami.
Lugo has been thrust into a starting role with the struggling Mets and he has fared better than expected. As a starter he has a 3.52 era, 1.26 whip and has struck out 27 batters over 23 innings (10.57 k/9). He’s also holding batters to a 0.288 wOBA and 0.154 iso.
The reason you’re reading about Lugo this week is because he gets a matchup against those hapless Marlins. They are currently posting a 0.298 wOBA (24th), 0.114 iso (dead last in MLB) and 21.8 k% (15th) against RHP at home. The Mets aren’t good but they are better than the Marlins, so there is a decent chance you might actually get a win out of a Mets starting pitcher this weekend!
Remember, these suggestions aren’t ludicrous. They’re @Roto_Chris.
