Jeremy Bonderman is coming back to the Detroit Tigers rotation after more than a year with a blood clot issue. He will start Monday versus the light-hitting Chicago White Sox. He is well worth the pickup and possibly a start Monday. After that, it might be wise to stash him on the bench and wait and see how he progresses.
Bonderman was 14-8 with 202 Ks and a 4.08 ERA in 2006. His 2007 was a little shaky with a 11-9 record, only 145 Ks and a 5.01 ERA. The 2008 season was a throw-away with the blood clot problems but now he’s back. You shouldn’t expect a repeat of his fine 2006 numbers, but a better return than 2007 is just as likely, assuming you factor in that he’ll only pitch four months of the season and be on strict pitch counts for the month of June. Predicted stats: 7-5, 4.55 ERA, 100Ks.
