Brandon Webb’s shoulder is not looking too good. He will miss his start this weekend and even made a trip to see Dr. James Andrews. Webb said his visit in December was just “to put my own mind at ease” but any time a pitcher goes to visit Dr. Andrews, it is usually not a good thing.
I missed out on Webb by one pick in my money league this year and am very happy I did. I’m a huge fan of Arizona’s big righty, but this sounds like a problem that won’t go away any time soon. I’d put Webb on the trading block and accept nothing less than full value. If he comes through this OK, he’ll be a very valuable pitcher, but if the shoulder continues to bother him, he will only be a mediocre pitcher. If you can’t get full value in a trade for him, keep him and hope for the best. If you can find an antsy owner looking to dump him, see if he’ll accept a mediocre pitcher in return, but don’t pay full value as he is not likely to return to 2007 or 2008 value.
