Four of the pitching studs from 2008 threw duds in their first start of 2009. Don’t be the guy who gives up on a fantasy pitching stud after one bad outing as this is the exception, not the norm. In case another owner is silly enough to drop them, you can get a cheap Cliff Lee, C.C. Sabathia, Brandon Webb or Tim Lincecum, so watch the waiver wire. These guys are all legit, and are worth a trade offer if their owner is showing any signs of losing confidence in their ace. Throw out a legit offer and see if they bite. You may just walk away with an ace in your pocket for your troubles.
Aside from pitchers, many hitters will also get off to a slow start. Mark Teixeira is one notoriously slow starter. Others may also have a poor April, so be ready with a trade offer and keep a close eye on the waiver wire in case an All-Star caliber player finds himself without a team.
