C.C. Sabathia was the biggest fish landed over the winter and none other than the NewYork Yankees paid the big bucks to get him. They dropped $160 million to get the big lefty and they expect value for their dollar. So let’s see what they are getting: 4 GS, 1-1, 12K, 14 BB, 4.81 ERA, 1.60 WHIP. These numbers are the kinds that you would expect from a guy whom you paid a lot less.
Did the Yankees overpay? Yes. Did they get a dud? No. Sabathia will right the ship and get back on track. Remember that he had a terrible April last year (4 GS, 0-3, 14 K, 14 BB, 13.50 ERA). Comparing the two, it is a big improvement. Stick with the big fellow and he’ll pay off. If his owner is a little nervous, make him an offer and maybe you can get his five best months of the season without suffering his four bad weeks.
