If you are looking for the next big thing to hit Major League Baseball (and you should if you want to compete), you should be considering these names.David Price – If you don’t know his name yet, you haven’t been paying attention. You can sum him up in one word: STUD. If by some chance he’s available in your league, stop reading this and GO GET HIM RIGHT NOW. He’ll start the season in triple-A, but he’ll be up soon and will be an impact player.
Matt Wieters – It is hard to imagine this guy still being available in your league, but if he is, you’ll want to pick him up while you are picking up Price. This guy’s bat is huge and his defense is good enough to remain a catcher for his playing days. He will be Baltimore’s catcher by Memorial Day.Matt LaPorta – Another guy who has been discussed in this space. He’s the next Ryan Braun (great bat, awful glove).
Tommy Hanson – This guy may be better than the Braves who came out of their system in the 80’s and 90’s, which included Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Kevin Millwood, and Jason Schmidt. As soon as Glavine’s left arm gives out (and he’s already indicated that it might not be long), Hanson will take his place in the Braves rotation.
Gordon Beckham – The thing that makes this guy so fascinating is that the White Sox are trying to make him a second baseman. He’s got 30-HR pop in his bat and there are less than a handful of those in MLB playing 2B.
Pedro Alvarez – This guy is a third baseman with 40-HR power. Assuming his glove keeps him at the hot corner, he’ll be quite a find. Even if he has to move to 1B, his bat is still nice in any lineup.
Buster Posey – The best catching prospect not named Wieters. This guy is good enough to stay behind the dish and has a legit bat. If you can’t get Weiters, Posey is the guy you want.
