The two best remaining outfielders signed last week, leaving slim pickings for any team still needing an outfield bat. Bobby Abreu and Adam Dunn are both quality bats, but their approach to hitting is quite different.
Abreu will be a nice addition (and quite a bargain for only $5M) to the Los Angeles Angels. He has good patience at the plate and will hit for average and power. He’s not quite Mark Teixeira (whom he essentially traded places with), but his stats won’t disappoint. Look for something on the line of .275/18/95/20.
Adam Dunn is from the school of Swing Hard, in Case You Hit It. The Washington Nationals signed him to get the power they were looking for. He hit at least 40 homers and struck out at least 164 times every year for the last five. His batting average has never been over .266, but has walked more than 100 times each season in that same 5-year span. If you want a guy who will give you homers at the expense of average and be able to play OF and 1B for your fantasy team, Dunn might be your man. Look for something like .245/40/100.
