There is a lot of talk about teams desperate to add an impact bat for the playoff run are considering picking up Barry Bonds. He’s a free agent who has already said he’ll play for the MLB minimum. He can still play and help any team who adds him to their lineup. But what will he do to their clubhouse? It has been well documented how Bonds is more concerned with the name on the back of his uni than the one on the front.
But more importantly, how can he help your fantasy team? Your team will benefit from having Bonds’ bat in your lineup as well and you won’t have to put up with his Marine-like defense (it’s not just a job, it’s an adventure). If you have a slot on your bench, stash him until August 1 rolls around. No team will add him after that date as he will not be eligible for the playoffs. So give up a roster spot for the next week and see if anybody adds him. If so, you have yourself a middle of the order bomber. If not, you lost a bench spot for one week. No matter what you think about Barry Bonds, he’s a talented hitter who can give your team a big-time bat.
