As promised, here are the significant pitcher callups of the last week.
Chris Volstad is one of Florida‘s most highly regarded prospects. The 21-year old righty is a big kid (6 foot, 7 inches) and has room to grow into his big frame (only 190 pounds). He will probably stay in the Marlins rotation and should be a #2 SP before long. This kid is worth a keeper if you can spare it.
Matt Harrison came over to Texas in the Mark Teixeira trade last year. The lefty was one of the top prospects in the Braves organization before arm troubles arose. Those seem to have disappeared as he has been very good before his callup this year and dominated the Angels Tuesday night (7IP, 5H, 2ER). If Harrison can stay healthy, he should settle in as a #3 with the Rangers, but don’t expect him to stay in the rotation for the remainder of 2008.
