Super utility guys are the guys who seem to play everywhere on the field, but have no permanent position. They are in the lineup 5-6 times per week, but usually are just filling in for someone who is hurt or needs a day off. These guys are very valuable to your fantasy baseball team – as long as they are getting AB’s.
If your utility guy comes in as a defensive replacement and only gets about 5 AB’s per week, he’s not of much use to your squad. But Mark DeRosa and Brandon Inge usually get 20 AB’s per week and are pretty good with the wood. The part that helps the most is that they can play many positions for their MLB team and usually qualify at the same for your squad. Look around for a super-UT and take advantage of his position flexibility. Guys who could help your squad include DeRosa (2B, 3B, OF), Inge (C, 3B, OF), Chone Figgins (2B, 3B, OF), Bill Hall (2B, 3B, OF), Jeff Baker (1B, 2B, OF), Maicer Izturis (2B, 3B, SS), and Omar Infante (2B, 3B, SS, OF).
