Many leagues out there require you to set a lineup for a week at a time. If you are in one such league, you already are familiar with double starts (pitchers who will start twice during that week). Should you sit a star player in favor of a player with a double start? It depends.
You’ll want to look at each player and the team they are facing. You also need to consider the opposing pitcher, as it will be tough for your pitcher to win if he is facing Jake Peavy or Johan Santana. Make your choices on which pitchers have the best chances to help your team the most.
I had five double starts (we start 5 SP) on my money league team last week and selected them all over Brandon Webb. I knew Webb was off to a torrid 7-0 start, but sat him anyway. With my lack of faith, I was rewarded with Webb’s eighth win, and a CG at that. My other pitchers all did OK, but I made a mistake. I will NEVER sit the best SP in baseball again, especially when he is on a hot streak.
