NEW Projection Pal
» Projection Pal (.xlsm)
Projection Pal is an optional add-on to help import other projections and rankings into Draft Buddy.
Here is our tentative schedule for projection updates included in Draft Buddy. Unscheduled updates will occur as needed for injuries, etc.
1/22 – Initial release
1/28 – ATC + THE BAT added
2/7 – Done
2/9 – Done (ATC only)
2/21 – Version 2.0
* unscheduled update
New Projection Pal version 2.0 added to work with Draft Buddy 2.0.
Version 2.0 is now available. Added Saves+Holds and K/9 scoring categories, added over 200 players (mostly prospects for dynasty league drafters), and made some changes – hopefully for the better – to each players’ primary position. More details to come, but the important thing is you need to download the new version. The update files will not work with version 1.0. Get 2.0 at the link above.
I had a couple requests for Projection Pal, and it is now available to download. I included Razzball projections as of Feb 10 in Pal, so if you want to add those to Draft Buddy most of the work is done for you. Open Buddy, open Pal, check the filename in Pal matches your copy of Draft Buddy, go to each of the “Raw” tabs in Pal and click “Copy to Buddy”. Any issues then let me know.
Added ATC and THE BAT projections. Updated Steamer and Zeile projections, and ADP from each of NFBC and FantasyPros.
Initial release! Steamer and Zeile projections included, other projections are not available yet.
Version Notes, 2020 Download
Updated ATC, Steamer and Zeile projections for 60-game MLB regular season schedule.
An update but also a new version of Draft Buddy to give us v4.0. We wouldn’t normally go to four versions in the lead up to MLB season, but this is like no other year, either. The projections update will still work with the prior version 3.0, but if you want any of the new features listed below, then you need to download the new one.
- copy league settings from prior year or same year + prior version of Draft Buddy
- draft/nominate player buttons on hitters and pitchers data tabs
- added Saves to THE BAT projections
- added Holds to Draft Buddy, ATC, THE BAT, Steamer projections
- primary position for players matches eligible fantasy positions per Fantrax
- primary position is based on most valuable position for multi-position eligible players
- import auction results from Fantrax
- ADP adjusts for AL/NL-only leagues
- added Update All (projections) button on action tab
Sorry, I screwed up. Lets pretend version 2.0 never existed and we skip right on over to version 3.0. Details
We are on to version 2.0. Details
That didn’t take long for a first update. The ATC projections from Ariel Cohen became available, so those are now in. Plus I added a few players like Yoshitomo Tsutsugo who wasn’t picked up earlier, fresh Steamer projections and NFBC ADP and a couple depth chart changes.
Initial release for 2020! Out of the gate we’ve got Steamer and Zeile (FantasyPros) projections, plus ADP from NFBC and FantasyPros ADP. Hope to add ATC and THE BAT projections soon.

We made it. Opening Day today. Thanks everyone for trying Draft Buddy this season. Now go win your fantasy baseball league title!
Big update today and ZiPS projections added! Plus, small changes resulting in a new version 3.1 file. First, fantasy points leagues do not need the hitters-tp and pitchers-tp (target percentages) tabs. Those now hide themselves for points leagues and are visible for roto.
Second, if you’ve ever changed the Order or Display options on the auction report or draft report tab, you may have run into problems. This was due to calculation timing from switching the drop-downs. I tweaked the programming, those should work like they are supposed to. Please let me know if you run into any issues.
Huge update. New download version 3.0 includes ATC, THE BAT and Draft Buddy projections, plus keepers, draft results and franchise name integration with leagues run on Fantrax.com. All the details
I updated the initial release for projections, ADP and depth charts, including adding Zeile projections, on Jan 18, and I will do another update soon. However, in the meantime we found some issues and corrected them, resulting in a new version 2.0 released today. There are a different number of players on the hitters data and pitchers data tabs, so please everyone if you have 1.0, download and use the new 2.0 going forward or the update projections feature will not work as perfectly as it should.
Dec 18, 2018
It is December, but we have updated depth charts, Steamer projections and ADP from early NFBC drafts, so I figured, why not? Here is an early version of Draft Buddy for 2019 fantasy baseball drafts. I used the 2018 v.2.6 file with target percentages as the starting point for this file, so those are included. As usual, let me know if you notice any issues or have questions. Thanks!
Version Notes, 2018 Download 2.0 or Download 2.6 with Target Percentages
Not much more to say than it… is… Opening Day!
Projections update today but also a couple of changes to the files. First, it came to my attention that the Blown Save and Hold stats for 2016 and 2017 were missing from Draft Buddy. Those are back in the latest download files. Thanks Paul for letting me know. Plus I made some small changes that could improve cell updating when switching tabs. Note, I did not change the version number for this, but feel free to download another copy of 2.0 from the link above.
Second, the 2.5 Beta with Target Percentages did change to version 2.6 Beta. It was not marking some players as drafted on the hitters-tp and pitchers-tp tabs, but I believe that is fixed. I also moved the target percentage inputs on the roto tab to prevent them getting hidden in smaller leagues, but it is still only available for standard 5X5 roto at this time. Everyone using 2.5 should update to 2.6.
And yes, sorry, I know it is a PIA to upgrade and re-input settings, keepers, etc., but in the interest of the best working draft tracker, use 2.6. Hint: download and set up 2.6 with the same settings, hit Compile Cheatsheets. Then close both files (2.5 and 2.6), open them both and do not enable macros right away. Then you can highlight and copy over keepers pretty easily as the sections should be the same size. Then close 2.5, enable macros in 2.6 and you are good to go.
Being sick sucks! Experienced that first hand suffering through the flu since middle of last week, so productivity ground to a near halt and only today – Monday – am I feeling better enough to do some work. And it is a good thing I wasn’t under the weather any longer. In recent days I learned that (a) ZiPS projections are now available, and (b) some of the Steamer projections were not matching up to players in our database properly.
Sounds like we are due for another unscheduled update! And that is what this is. Updated projections for Steamer, Zeile and ZiPS added, updated ADP from NFBC and FantasyPros, and … well as of writing this, Kevin is still going over the depth charts, but they should be ready soon. Note the depth charts can be refreshed on their own by switching the new batting order vs. position display, or anywhere on the chart you want to update, right-click and select “Refresh”. Remember, upgrade to version 2.0 if you are still using 1.0.
A flurry of free agent activity over the weekend – which happened to be a long weekend here in Ontario – pushed me to do an unscheduled projections update for Draft Buddy. Once I got going on that, I also added a few things to Draft Buddy which resulted in a new version 2.0. Everyone please download version 2.0 to replace your 1.0, because the new 2.0 update files will not exactly work with the older version. The new features in 2.0 are as follows:
- Added about 35 hitters and 35 pitchers, mostly top minor league prospects
- Created a new “prospects” tab to view, draft and track the top 100 prospects per Baseball America
- Added an alternative view hitters depth chart by batting order as well as by position
- Fixed some historic stats mistakes in roughly 20 players (i.e. Ian Happ)
It was the additional 70 or so minor league prospects that really prompted the need to download the new version of Draft Buddy, as opposed to simply updating projections. Consider the other new features a bonus which I hope you will find beneficial. The top prospects list should be especially useful for dynasty and keeper leagues.
What a week. Although very little of this is apparent on the outside looking in, most of the week involved improving the admin side of the website so we can more easily update and eventually grow the database. More + better sports data is a good thing.
However, it created a cascading effect of issues that needed to be resolved before I could proceed with anything else. Finally, most issues are fixed and I could run a Draft Buddy update. Steamer and Zeile projections, NFBC and FantasyPros ADP plus the depth charts are all updated. Also, Projection Pal is now available. Download link provided above.
If you notice any issues with anything on the website (because it is difficult to track down everything) or Draft Buddy or Pal then please let me know. Thanks!
Our initial release for the 2018 season! Earliest ever! Which is apparently a good thing, because MLB scheduled their earliest Opening Day ever for March 29. Give your league mates a heads up to get your draft scheduled. Thanks for using Draft Buddy. If you have any questions then you can hit me up on Facebook, Twitter or email. Please Like, Follow and Share Draft Buddy on social media!

Another new version! I noticed thanks to member Matt that one method I changed in the football version to track owner and team names in various spots, I hadn’t changed in the baseball version. The old way created complications when you enter keepers and then change the draft order on the owners tab. The new way should work much better… and hopefully this didn’t impact you previously.
Also, member Jim asked me last night about adding his own projections to Draft Buddy, which reminded me we need Projection Pal! It is now available, and check this video and this one for some Pal demos.
A week later and we already have a new version, 1.1. The only reason for the new version is for better compatibility with the newest version of Mac Excel, so all other users should not notice a difference from 1.0. Although, I did add an older Excel (.xls) version this morning for those still using the best (wink) version of Excel. And, we also have updated projections, ADP and depth charts readily available in the 1.1 download file, or you can update via the action tab in 1.0 if you are sticking with that.
Super soft launch! Like, I am hardly going to say anything. The day is running short, and it is Friday, but take it for a test drive this weekend and tell me what is not working or not updated, if anything. Version 1.0 is turned over from last year’s final version, so nothing new at this time.

We had a full projections update last week, and this morning we have another, perhaps our last with real baseball fast approaching!
There was one small fix today however, creating a new version 3.1. Thanks to member Bret for sleuthing this one. It seemed when you used the re-rank features for either the SP or OF positions, Draft Buddy may not mark the correct player as drafted. Very odd, but now it is fixed. Get version 3.1 if you are re-ranking players. All updates will continue to work fine in prior versions.
I also uploaded an .xls version of Draft Buddy since member Bill emailed me saying he was having issues using the .xlsm version in his older version of Excel. Use the .xls if you have Excel 2003 or earlier and you get compatibility messages or errors using the .xlsm.
I added Projection Pal, which is completely optional add-on to help you import projections into Draft Buddy. Working on an improvement (or oversight, however you want to look at it) to the new “Top 25” feature so it properly filters for AL and NL-only leagues. Hope to post that soon, maybe later today.
Pretty excited about releasing a new version 2.0 today because it includes a brand new feature, the Top 25 Available by Stat ranking (or “top 25” tab, for short). Thanks to member Matt Cramer for suggesting this feature, even creating one himself after we discussed some ideas, and then I took his work, did some modifications and came up with this.
Basically, it is a constantly updated list of top projected players at each of the traditional 5×5 roto categories. It only shows for roto leagues and the stats shown are set, but I can see expanding on this later. You will need a new download from the link above to take advantage of this new feature.
There is also a complete projections update plus the addition of the ZiPS projections, so now there are all three sets of updated projections in Draft Buddy, ADP and depth charts. Enjoy and happy drafting!
Finally! After initial delays due to other commitments, and some hiccups through the creation of the 2016 version, I think we are good to go for the upcoming baseball season! Download the new Draft Buddy file from the link above. Update notices to come via email to our baseball mailing list, Twitter and Facebook.
