  • Tigers' Cabrera vows '23 return: I'm not quitting

Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera told The Detroit News that he will indeed return for a 21st major league season in 2023, a day after comments he made raised some doubt that he'd retire before then.

  • Miguel Cabrera Plans To Retire After 2023 Season

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera said that he has no intention of retiring after this year. His plan is to finish out his contract and retire after the 2023 season. Cabrera's numbers at the plate are certainly in decline in his age-39 season this year, as he's hitting .268/.317/.332 with a .650 OPS, only four home runs, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and one stolen base in 356 plate appearances over 91 games. The 12-time All-Star and future Hall of Famer isn't much of an option in fantasy at this point of his career, and he'll attempt to make it through one more season in 2023 before ending his amazing career. Miggy is currently battling some knee pain and will play every other game for the next week.

  • Miguel Cabrera Taking The Day Off Friday

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (knee) is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. Cabrera is battling a bum knee right now and is expected to start every other game for at least the next week. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer is nearing the end of the road and is hitting just .268/.317/.332 with four home runs, 36 RBI, 23 runs scored and a stolen base in 325 at-bats for Detroit. With Miggy on the bench, Victor Reyes is serving as the designated hitter and will bat second on Friday against Rays right-hander Corey Kluber. Reyes is hitting only .229 (8-for-35) with three RBI in 10 games over the last two weeks, and he has just one home run on the season in 48 games played.

  • Miguel Cabrera Not Starting Against Guardians

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera is not in the starting lineup on Sunday against the Cleveland Guardians. Fantasy managers need to make sure to remove Cabrera from their lineups for the final game of the first half of the season. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer isn't a great source of counting stats by any means, as he has just three home runs, 34 RBI and 19 runs scored on the season, but he is hitting .287 with a .324 on-base percentage in 286 at-bats. Robbie Grossman is the team's DH on Sunday and will hit sixth against Guardians right-hander Shane Bieber. Grossman just hasn't been able to get it going this year, slashing .205/.311/.275 with two home runs, 19 RBI, 22 runs and three steals in 244 at-bats.

  • Miguel Cabrera Resting Against Royals

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Kansas City Royals. Cabrera is hitting only .214 (9-for-42) with nine RBI and nine strikeouts in 12 games in the month of July, and he hasn't homered since May 15. The 39-year-old future Hall of Famer just doesn't have the power anymore (only three home runs on the season), but he does have a very useful .287 batting average with 34 RBI, 19 runs scored and a stolen base in 275 at-bats. Harold Castro will serve as the designated hitter and bat fifth on Wednesday against Royals right-hander Brady Singer. Castro has been similarly cold recently, going 5-for-25 (.200) with no homers or RBI in seven games in the last two weeks for Detroit.

  • Miguel Cabrera Added To All-Star Team

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been added to the American League All-Star roster by commissioner Rob Manfred. The 39-year-old has been added to the roster for his accomplishments over his 20-year career. This is his 12th All-Star selection and his first since the 2016 campaign. The future Hall of Famer is hitting .308 with three home runs and 31 RBI over 70 games this season. There isn't much fantasy value here from Cabrera outside of his batting average. He can remain ignored in most fantasy formats, but is well deserving of another All-Star selection.

  • Miguel Cabrera Records Three Runs Batted In On Wednesday

Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera went 1-for-3 on Wednesday with a single, and he also drove in three runs to help beat the Cleveland Guardians 8-2. The veteran slugger is now batting .308 across 70 games. Cabrera continues to hit for no power though, with just three home runs on his stat line, along with 31 RBI and 18 runs. Fantasy managers shouldn't consider the 39-year-old unless all they're looking for is batting average.

  • Miguel Cabrera Back In The Lineup Tuesday

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (back) is back in the starting lineup and will serve as the DH and hit third on Tuesday against Minnesota Twins left-hander Devin Smeltzer in the first game of a doubleheader. Cabrera missed the last two games due to lower-back tightness, but fantasy managers can now return the 39-year-old to their starting lineups. However, don't be surprised if the Tigers give him some more rest and sit him out in Game 2. Miggy doesn't have a ton of power these days -- only three home runs -- but he still makes plenty of contact and has an overall slash line of .294/.340/.399 with 18 RBI and 12 runs scored in 143 at-bats in 2022.

  • Miguel Cabrera Still Out Monday

Detroit Tigers first baseman/designated hitter Miguel Cabrera (back) remains out of the starting lineup on Monday against the Minnesota Twins. Cabrera will sit out for the second straight game, but fantasy managers should continue to consider him day-to-day for now. The 39-year-old veteran is hitting a solid .294/.340/.399 on the season with three home runs, 18 RBI and 12 runs scored in 143 at-bats. Miggy doesn't have prodigious power like he once had, but he's still an excellent source for average. Harold Castro will serve as the DH on Monday and hit leadoff against Twins right-hander Dylan Bundy. Castro has been solid this year in limited action, going 26-for-80 with four home runs and nine RBI in 27 games. He'll have added DFS sleeper appeal in the leadoff spot.

  • Miguel Cabrera Exits Early With Back Tightness

Detroit Tigers' first baseman Miguel Cabrera (back) exited Saturday's game against the Cleveland Guardians early with lower-back tightness. The 39-year-old went 0-for-3 before leaving. Eric Haase replaced Cabrera in the eighth inning. He is slashing .294/.340/.399 with three home runs, 18 RBI, and 12 runs across 40 games in 2022. The severity of Cabrera's injury is unknown now; he's considered day-to-day. Haase would see an uptick in playing time while Cabrera is sidelined. The 29-year-old can be left on the waiver wire after slashing .172/.243/.281 across 24 games in 2022.
