  • Jung Hoo Lee Getting First Day Off

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee is getting his first day off of the season on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals. In addition to Lee, first baseman LaMonte Wade Jr., outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and catcher Patrick Bailey, who all hit left-handed, are on the bench versus left-hander Patrick Corbin. Tyler Fitzgerald will start in center field and bat ninth, Wilmer Flores is at first base and batting second, Austin Slater is in right field and batting leadoff, and Tom Murphy is catching and hitting sixth. The 25-year-old Lee has held his own so far in his rookie season, going 12-for-47 (.255) with a homer and four RBI in his first 12 games. Slater is a prime DFS play on Wednesday against a lefty that he's hitting .462 against with a homer and six RBI in 13 career at-bats.

  • Jung Hoo Lee Hits First MLB Home Run

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee hit the first home run of his MLB career in Saturday's 9-6 win over the Padres. It was part of a six-run eighth-inning outburst for the Giants. Lee also had a sacrifice fly, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. The 25-year-old has now hit safely in the first three games of the season, batting .333 (4-for-12) with four RBI and one run scored. Hitting atop the San Francisco lineup and getting on base plenty should prove fruitful for the former KBO star, especially with the power the Giants have been putting up behind him to start the year. He's surprisingly rostered in just 69% of leagues, so managers in need of help at the outfield position should consider picking him up.

  • Offseason In Review: San Francisco Giants

    Headshot for Nick Ahmed

It was a bit of a slow burn, but the Giants ended up being the main beneficiary of the tepid offseason, as they were able to sign three star players after February had already begun. Since they had also signed a significant deal with a Korean superstar and traded for a former Cy Young winner,…

  • Jung Hoo Lee, Patrick Bailey Back In Action

    Headshot for Patrick Bailey

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (hamstring) and catcher Patrick Bailey (hand) are both back in the team's Cactus League lineup on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels. Lee is in center field and batting leadoff, while Bailey is behind the dish and hitting seventh for the Gigantes. The 25-year-old Lee was held out of the spring lineup for a few days after tweaking his hamstring last week. It wasn't a serious injury, and he's fully expected to be ready for Opening Day on March 28 versus the San Diego Padres as the team's leadoff man and starting center fielder after inking a six-year, $113 million deal to come over from Korea. Bailey took a foul tip off his right hand over a week ago in the Cactus League and is now fully recovered. He struggled at the plate at the end of his rookie season and should only be an option in two-catcher fantasy leagues in 2024.

  • Jung Hoo Lee Dealing With Hamstring Tightness

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants rookie outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (hamstring) is dealing with left-hamstring tightness in camp and will be limited for the next two to three days. Lee was pulled from Wednesday's Cactus League game early as a precaution. It's something to watch for the 25-year-old as he prepares for his first season in the big leagues, but it appears to be minor, so it would be a surprise if Lee isn't ready for Opening Day on March 28. Lee will be San Fran's starting center fielder in 2024 after signing a six-year, $113 million deal after seven strong seasons in Korea. He has elite contact ability and should score plenty of runs for fantasy managers at the top of the Giants' batting order. Lee doesn't have much power, though. Some have worried about how he'll handle velocity in the big leagues, but he's been impressive so far in spring training.

  • Jung Hoo Lee Looking Good In Cactus League Action

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee is enjoying himself a quality spring after signing a six-year, $113 million deal with the club this offseason following a seven-year career in the KBO. The 25-year-old is hitting .348 (8-for-23) with one homer, one stolen base, three walks, and three strikeouts alongside a .945 OPS across 26 trips to the plate. Lee doesn't bring a ton of home-run power to the table after he hit just six homers in 86 games in the KBO last season but consistently posted massive batting averages, posting a career .340 average in 884 games with Nexen and Kiwoom of the KBO. He also stole 69 bases in that time. He offers some doubles and triples power and speed but his value will come from whether he can put up big run-scoring totals at or near the top of the Giants' lineup this season.

  • Matt Chapman Signs Three-Year Deal With The Giants

    Headshot for Matt Chapman

Free agent third baseman Matt Chapman and the San Francisco Giants agreed on a three-year, $54 million contract on Friday. Chapman's deal includes an opt-out after the first two seasons, and he will make $20 million in 2024, $18 million in 2025, and $16 million in 2026. The 30-year-old has legit power, evidenced by his 56.4% hard-hit percentage and 17.1% barrel rate, ranking in the 98th percentile per Baseball Savant. Overall, Chapman slashed .240/.330/.424 with 17 homers and 54 RBI across 581 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last season. He will join a potentially potent Giants lineup with new acquisitions Jorge Soler and Jung Hoo Lee. Chapman should be in San Francisco's lineup daily and could easily pop 20-plus homers (ATC projects 24) in the heart of the Giants' batting order. However, with the recent signing, fantasy managers shouldn't expect Chapman's NFBC ADP of 275 to jump too much, making him a solid pick at his current ADP in upcoming fantasy drafts.

  • Jung Hoo Lee Shows Leadoff Promise In Spring Debut Tuesday

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee made his much-awaited big-league debut on Tuesday, hitting leadoff in a 10-10 Cactus League tie with the Mariners. Lee went 1-for-3 with a single and a strikeout, sparking a five-run first inning. The 25-year-old is expected to serve as the team's routine leadoff hitter after signing a six-year, $113 million contract this offseason. Fantasy managers will have to wait and see how his skills translate from Korea to the big leagues, but he should offer a good batting average with some speed.

  • Jung Hoo Lee To Make Cactus League Debut Tuesday

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (side) is scheduled to play center field and bat leadoff on Tuesday in the team's Cactus League contest against the Seattle Mariners. Lee was scratched from making his spring training debut over the weekend due to minor side soreness, but he'll be ready to return on Tuesday. The 25-year-old Korean outfielder will be San Fran's starting center fielder in his first year in the States after the Giants signed him to a six-year, $113 million deal in free agency. Lee doesn't have much power in his bat, but he has excellent contact and on-base abilities and should provide value as a depth outfielder in mixed fantasy leagues in 2024 for his OBP, average and runs scored. However, there is also some concern that he might need a period of adjustment to increased MLB velocities.

  • Jung Hoo Lee Out With Side Soreness

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee (side) is dealing with some minor side soreness and will not be in the team's Cactus League game on Saturday against the Chicago Cubs as a precaution. Lee's injury isn't very serious, and he expects to be ready to play in spring games in a couple of days. However, this is something to watch for the 25-year-old as he transitions to the States in 2024. He should still be expected to be San Francisco's starting center fielder and leadoff man when Opening Day comes around late in March after the Giants signed him to a six-year, $113 million deal this winter. The Korean outfielder comes with very little power, but his elite contact skills should make him a batting-average asset atop the Giants' lineup.

  • Jung Hoo Lee Expected To Be Giants Leadoff Hitter

    Headshot for Jung Hoo Lee

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said that he "would be shocked" if outfielder Jung Hoo Lee isn't the team's leadoff hitter on Opening Day. The plan is for Lee to bat leadoff against both right-handers and left-handers in his first year in the big leagues. The Giants added the 25-year-old Korean this offseason on a six-year, $113 million deal, and his high contact rates and on-base skills should serve him well at the top of San Francisco's lineup this year. However, it remains to be seen if Lee will have an adjustment period to the velocity of big-league pitching in 2024. He doesn't carry much power or speed, but fantasy managers should get a fine source of batting average, OBP and runs scored from Lee now that he's expected to hit first for the Gigantes. In addition to hitting leadoff, Lee will serve as the team's starting center fielder.
