Wade Meckler Back In Two-Hole In Second Big-League Game

San Francisco Giants rookie outfielder Wade Meckler is starting in center field and hitting second on Tuesday against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays and right-hander Zack Littell. Meckler made his big-league debut on Monday and finished 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts, so he'll still be looking for his first major-league hit on Tuesday. The 23-year-old was an eighth-round selection just last year, but he's already listed as the team's No. 11 prospect, per MLB Pipeline. Meckler tore it up at three different minor-league levels this year to earn his first big-league call-up, and he should continue to see regular playing time in the Giants outfield, at least until Mike Yastrzemski (hamstring) returns from the injured list.

Wade Meckler Gets The Call To The Big Leagues

San Francisco Giants outfielder Wade Meckler has been promoted to the big leagues. The 23-year-old prospect has made three stops through the minor leagues en route to San Francisco. Most recently, he hit .400 with a homer in just 10 games at the Triple-A level. He began the season at High-A but has raked his way to the big leagues. An eighth-round pick in 2020, Meckler's plate discipline appears to be a strength. He struck out only five times versus eight walks at Triple-A where he walked in 24.2% of the 33 plate appearances he had at that level. He'll join a crowded Giants outfield but should see solid playing time versus right-handed pitching.
