  • Offseason In Review: San Francisco Giants

    Headshot for Nick Ahmed

It was a bit of a slow burn, but the Giants ended up being the main beneficiary of the tepid offseason, as they were able to sign three star players after February had already begun. Since they had also signed a significant deal with a Korean superstar and traded for a former Cy Young winner,…

  • Keaton Winn Progressing To Live Batting Practice

    Headshot for Keaton Winn

San Francisco Giants pitcher Keaton Winn (elbow) has progressed from throwing bullpen sessions to live batting practice, per the Athletic's Andrew Baggarly. The 26-year-old has been dealing with right elbow inflammation but is slowly showing signs of health improvements. It is unclear when he will be cleared to pitch in spring training games, but the Giants will take any positives at this time, as their pitching staff is dealing with numerous injuries. Winn made nine appearances (five starts) last season, going 1-3 with a 4.68 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and 20.3% strikeout rate. If healthy, he will likely start the season in the team's rotation.

  • Keaton Winn, Alex Cobb Set For Bullpens

    Headshot for Alex Cobb

San Francisco Giants right-hander Keaton Winn (elbow) will throw a bullpen session this weekend, while right-hander Alex Cobb (hip) will throw a bullpen on Thursday. People around camp have been impressed with how far along Cobb seems to be, but he'll still miss a big chunk of time at the start of the year. Meanwhile, Tristan Beck (arm), who was the favorite for the No. 5 rotation spot to begin the year, was diagnosed with an aneurysm in his arm and could need surgery. Winn cut his last bullpen short over a week ago due to right-elbow soreness. It's unclear when the 26-year-old will be cleared to pitch in spring training games, but the Giants are holding out hope he'll be ready to be in the team's Opening Day rotation. With Beck hurt, Sean Hjelle is the favorite now for the final rotation spot in San Francisco.

  • Keaton Winn Dealing With Elbow Soreness, Not Too Worried

    Headshot for Keaton Winn

San Francisco Giants right-hander Keaton Winn (elbow) felt some right-elbow soreness during his last bullpen session, but an MRI exam came back clean and he'll be shut down in camp for a few days. With Robbie Ray (elbow) and Alex Cobb (hip) out for the first half of the 2024 season, Winn is currently the team's No. 4 starter. Despite the injury, Winn isn't too concerned and thinks he'll be ready for Opening Day. Tristan Beck is the favorite for the final rotation spot in San Fran. If Winn ends up not being ready for the start of the season, Spencer Howard and Daulton Jefferies could be options to fill in early on in April in the Giants' rotation. Winn, 26, made his big-league debut in 2023 and looked good, striking out 35 and walking only eight in five starts and four relief outings in 42 1/3 innings.

  • Keaton Winn, Tristan Beck Front-Runners For Final Rotation Spots

    Headshot for Tristan Beck

San Francisco Giants manager Bob Melvin said that right-handers Keaton Winn and Tristan Beck are the front-runners for the final two starting-rotation spots to open up the 2024 season behind Logan Webb, Kyle Harrison and Jordan Hicks. Winn, 26, had a 4.68 ERA and 1.04 WHIP with a save, eight walks and 35 K's in 42 1/3 frames over nine outings (five starts) in his rookie year in 2023. Opponents hit the ball really hard off him, though, so fantasy managers in NL-only leagues shouldn't expect much if he wins a rotation spot to open the year. Beck, 27, had a 3.92 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with two saves, 21 walks and 68 K's in 85 innings over 33 outings (three starts) in his rookie season in 2023. Beck was considerably better in relief than in his three starts. Both Winn and Beck will be keeping rotation spots warm for Robbie Ray (elbow) and Alex Cobb (hip).
