Jose Caballero On The Bench Tuesday

Seattle Mariners second baseman Jose Caballero is absent from the lineup for Tuesday's matchup with Luis Medina and the Oakland Athletics, according to MLB.com. The rookie has been a nice surprise at the plate, slashing .276/.371/.431 with a pair of homers, 11 runs, 10 RBI, and six steals across 24 games. Kolten Wong will take his place at second and bat eighth. The former Gold Glover has been incredibly cold since coming over to Seattle, as he's batting .177 with no long balls or stolen bases and has lost most of his playing time. Wong has about zero fantasy value now, and fantasy managers should avoid him in all leagues.

Mariners Notes: Caballero, Wong, Moore, Bullpen

Rookie infielder Jose Caballero’s initial call-up to the Mariners’ roster was expected to be a short-term stint to provide some depth while utilityman Sam Haggerty dealt with a concussion, but he’s parlaying that opportunity into a larger role. As Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times writes, he’s already made a strong impression on manager Scott…

Seattle Mariners rookie infielder Jose Caballero went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and a strikeout in the team's 2-1 loss to the visiting Texas Rangers on Monday night. Caballero now has a modest five-game hitting streak, and he's gone 11-for-36 (.306) with three doubles, four RBI, three stolen bases and six runs scored in his first 14 major-league contests. The 26-year-old was filling in for J.P. Crawford (knee) at the 6 after he was scratched from Monday's lineup. Caballero has gotten off to a nice start after spending six seasons in the minor leagues, but he won't really be a waiver-wire consideration unless Crawford is forced to the injured list because of his knee injury.

Mariners Designate Tommy Milone, Select Jose Caballero

The Mariners announced that left-hander Tommy Milone has been designated for assignment. In a corresponding move, Seattle selected the contract of infielder Jose Caballero from Triple-A. After originally signing a minor league deal with the Mariners prior to the 2022 season, Milone rejoined the club on a new minors deal this past winter, and was…
Apr 15 · MLB Trade Rumors Mariners Jose Caballero Tommy MiloneJose Caballero Finding Success At Triple-A

Seattle Mariners middle infield prospect Jose Caballero is off to a great start through the first three games, going 4-for-5 with two singles, one double, and one home run. He has also drawn a whopping six walks, meaning he has reached base in 11 of 12 trips to the plate. While Caballero's early-season stat line comes from a small sample size and certainly isn't sustainable long-term, it could be indicative of a strong year to come for the 26-year-old middle infielder. So far, he has done a little bit of everything, including hitting for power, swiping bags, and working counts. Caballero has long been a threat to steal bases, but his tendency to also hit for average has exceeded what scouts and analysts expected back when he was a seventh-round pick in 2017. There's a chance he could become an impact bat off the bench in the majors this year.
