Junior Caminero To Play Winter Ball In The Dominican

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero will partake in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) this winter. Caminero is the No. 6 prospect according to MLB pipeline. The 20-year-old played in seven games during the regular season for the Rays and two playoff games. Last season he played in the Australian Baseball League during the winter. Caminero launched 31 home runs during the minor league season and is the Rays No. 1 prospect heading into 2024. He should be a name to watch this offseason for all fantasy managers.

Tampa Bay Rays infielder Junior Caminero is serving as the designated hitter and batting fifth on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays. Caminero, who was just called, is one of Tampa's top prospects and is slashing an impressive .324/.384/.591 with 31 home runs, 94 RBI, and five stolen bases in 510 plate appearances across two levels of the minor leagues. He's got a lot of power in that swing and has the skills to make an impact right away for Tampa Bay. He should be rostered in all dynasty formats and is worth picking up in any sort of keeper league, even if the regular season is about to end.

Rays Calling Up Junior Caminero

The Tampa Bay Rays are calling up top infield prospect Junior Caminero from Double-A Montgomery, according to sources. The 20-year-old will make the jump to the big leagues from Double-A, where he was hitting an impressive .309/.373/.548 with a .921 OPS, 20 home runs, 62 RBI, nine doubles, three triples, three stolen bases and 55 runs scored in 81 games. Between Montgomery and High-A Bowling Green, Caminero has 31 homers, 94 RBI, five stolen bases and 85 runs scored in 510 trips to the plate and 117 games. Caminero has elite bad speed and raw power for his age. It's unclear how much the Rays will play him down the stretch and into the postseason, but most of his playing time will likely come at shortstop with Wander Franco not expected back until sometime in 2024.

Junior Caminero Launches Four Homers In Big Week

Tampa Bay Rays infield prospect Junior Caminero was signed out of the Dominican Republic by the Guardians in 2019, then traded to the Rays in 2021. He has quickly blossomed into Tampa Bay's top prospect. His swing is a thing of beauty, generating plenty of speed at just the right angle so that he can pull baseballs to all parts of the field. He looks natural in the batter's box and has shown an advanced hit tool for his age (20). He's also decent defensively; with his slightly above-average glovework and arm, he'll likely patrol third base long-term. This past week, Caminero went 9-for-22 with four homers, six RBI, five walks, and four strikeouts. He has blasted plenty of home runs this season while staying under control at the plate and not sacrificing too many strikeouts. He should be a quick riser for Tampa Bay, potentially reaching the majors as early as 2024.
