Luis Rengifo Undergoes Biceps Surgery

Angels infielder Luis Rengifo underwent surgery to repair a torn left biceps, manager Phil Nevin informed reporters after tonight’s loss to the Tigers (relayed by Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com). The expectation remains that he’ll be ready for Spring Training. Rengifo, 26, suffered the freak injury last week while taking practice swings in the on-deck circle. The…

The Angels announced this afternoon that they had activated right-hander Ben Joyce from the 60-day injured list and shortstop Zach Neto from the 10-day injured list. In corresponding moves, first baseman Trey Cabbage and left-hander Kolton Ingram were optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake. Anaheim’s 40-man roster stands at 39 after activating Joyce. The club’s first-…
Sep 10 · MLB Trade Rumors Angels Ben Joyce Zach Neto Trey Cabbage Trey CabbageZach Neto To Start Rehab Assignment Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. Neto has been on the injured list sine early August with a nagging back injury, but barring a setback this week while playing in a few minor-league games, the 22-year-old could return to the Angels lineup later this week or this weekend. Infield prospect Kyren Paris has been receiving some run at the 6 in Anaheim of late with Neto still out, but when Neto is back on the active roster, he should return to regular shortstop duties to close out the year. In his first major-league season, Neto has hit .241/.315/.411 with eight home runs, 14 doubles, 30 RBI, five stolen bases and 31 runs scored in 67 games (252 plate appearances).

Zach Neto Close To Starting Rehab Assignment

Los Angeles Angels manager Phil Nevin said on Friday that rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) has experienced "no setbacks and no pain" as he continues to rehab lower-back inflammation. Neto has taken part in all on-field activities during warmups except for hitting, which he has been doing in an indoor cage. Nevin said Neto is expected to go on a minor-league rehab assignment sometime next week. The 22-year-old was put on the injured list on Aug. 4 after dealing with back inflammation since late July. Neto should return to regular duties at the 6 when he's healthy enough to be activated, although the Angels did just call up prospect Kyren Paris and he made his big-league debut on Friday night in the loss to the Oakland Athletics.

Zach Neto Is Pain-Free

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) is pain-free and rejoined the team on their road trip. He started baseball activities in New York on Aug. 25 and has been playing catch on the field and advanced to taking dry swings. Neto also did some infield work on Monday. He initially went on the injured list on Aug. 4 after he had been dealing with lower-back inflammation since late July. With the 22-year-old still likely to need a minor-league rehab assignment, he's probably several weeks away from a return to the Angels' big-league roster. Neto had earned the everyday role at the 6 in his first big-league season and has hit .241 (54-for-224) with eight home runs, 14 doubles, 30 RBI, five stolen bases and 31 runs scored in 67 games this year.

Zach Neto To Resume Baseball Activities

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) is expected to resume baseball activities, manager Phil Nevin said Monday. Nevin said, "He's starting to do more physical activity... I can't give you a timeline on him, but he's pain-free and that's the most important thing." The 22-year-old has been on the injured list with back inflammation since the beginning of August. Neto had put together a .241/.315/.411 slash line with eight home runs, 30 RBI, and five stolen bases in 252 plate appearances. Hopefully, fantasy managers will receive further news this upcoming weekend when the Angels return home.

Zach Neto Could Return In September

Los Angeles shortstop Zach Neto (back) has been dealing with lower back inflammation since July and was eventually placed on the injured list on Friday. The club expects the 22-year-old to be back at some point this season, but that won't be until September at the earliest. Neto was slashing .241/.315/.411 with eight homers, 31 runs, 30 RBI, and five stolen bases over 67 games before the ailment. Luis Rengifo should keep getting most of the reps at short amid Neto's absence. The 26-year-old is hitting .238 with 11 bombs, 43 runs, 35 RBI, and five steals across 100 contests. Rengifo has been in the leadoff spot consistently and owns a .284 average in the second half, so he's not a bad option in deeper formats.

Angels Place Zach Neto On Injured List, Outright Kevin Padlo

The Angels placed shortstop Zach Neto on the 10-day injured list with lower back inflammation. Brandon Drury was reinstated from his own IL stint to replace Neto on the active roster. Additionally, the Halos announced that corner infielder Kevin Padlo accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Salt Lake. Neto told reporters he’s unsure about his return timetable, saying…

Los Angeles Angels infielder Zach Neto (back) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday. The rookie shortstop has been dealing with a lingering back issue for a few weeks now. The organization has decided to shut him down from baseball activities, so he can undergo treatment for his back. That being said, the Angels haven't said how long Neto is going to be sidelined. Luis Rengifo will bat leadoff and playing shortstop during Friday's game. The assumption is that he'll see more playing time with the Angels shorthanded.

Zach Neto Hitting Eighth Monday

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) has returned to the starting lineup on Monday and is playing shortstop and batting eighth in the order against Atlanta Braves right-hander Charlie Morton. Neto was originally scratched from the lineup on July 22 with a back injury, and he's played in just four games since then due to the injury. The 22-year-old has also really struggled offensively since the All-Star break, going 8-for-37 (.216) with two home runs, a double, six RBI and seven runs scored in eight games played. Hopefully Neto can pick it up with the stick soon once he moves past his back injury, but fantasy managers are going to have a lower fantasy ceiling until he moves back to the top of the batting order.

Zach Neto Out Against Blue Jays

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) remains out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays after he was scratched from Friday's lineup with back stiffness. Neto returned for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers and went 1-for-5, but he continues to deal with back issues and will rest for another day before hopefully returning on Sunday. Luis Rengifo is handling shortstop and is hitting leadoff, while Michael Stefanic will play the keystone and hit ninth against Rays right-hander Alek Manoah. When healthy, Neto has earned the starting duties at the 6 in his rookie campaign by hitting .251 (53-for-211) with eight homers, 28 RBI, five steals and 31 runs scored.

Zach Neto Scratched Against Toronto

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (back) is out of the lineup ahead of Friday's series opener versus the Blue Jays. The 22-year-old continues to be bothered by lingering back stiffness, so there's a chance he will miss more time moving ahead. In the meantime, Andrew Velazquez will take Neto's spot and bat ninth against right-hander Kevin Gausman, who is 7-5 with a 3.18 ERA in 2023.

Zach Neto To Play In Thursday's Game 2

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (back) has missed the past three games due to a back issue. However, according to manager Phil Nevin, the rookie was supposed to play Wednesday before the postponement and will start in Thursday's game two against Matt Manning and the Detroit Tigers. That's positive news for all fantasy owners, as they can once again use Neto in their starting lineups. The 22-year-old has slashed .252/.328/.432 with eight homers, five steals, 30 runs, and 27 RBI across 62 games this season.

Zach Neto Scratched Tuesday

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) said he felt good enough to play on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers, but manager Phil Nevin made the call to scratch him. Nevin said he'd be surprised if Neto didn't play on Wednesday. Neto missed the final two games of the weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates due to a back issue and will miss one more day despite an off day on Monday. Andrew Velazquez is playing shortstop again and is batting ninth against Tigers left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. The 22-year-old Neto has earned most of the playing time at shortstop for the Angels this year in his first MLB season by hitting .252/.328/.432 with eight home runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 206 at-bats.

Zach Neto Back In Leadoff Spot For Angels

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (back) is back at shortstop and batting leadoff for the Angels in the series opener on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez. Lower-back tightness kept Neto out of the final two games of the weekend series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he's back for fantasy managers now after having another day off on Monday. The 22-year-old has become a regular at the 6 for the Halos in 2023 and is currently hitting .252/.328/.432 with eight home runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases and 30 runs scored in 206 at-bats. He's relevant in deeper-mixed leagues, although he's hit just .219 (7-for-32) with two homers, a double, five RBI and six runs in seven games since the All-Star break.

Zach Neto Not In The Lineup On Sunday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (back) is absent from the lineup on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The 22-year-old rookie missed Saturday's contest as well with lower back tightness so he's dealing with the same issue, apparently. The Angels have Monday off before hitting the road to kick off a three-game set against the Detroit Tigers so Neto should be good to go for that series. Andrew Velazquez is starting at shortstop on Sunday and batting ninth against Mitch Keller.

Zach Neto Likely Out On Sunday With Back Issue

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (back), who missed Saturday's contest versus the Pittsburgh Pirates with lower-back tightness, is expected to be sidelined until Tuesday. The 22-year-old appears unlikely to make Sunday's lineup card with no game on Monday. However, it sounds like Neto should be able to return to the fold with a just couple of days on the mend. Fantasy managers can probably expect to see the 2022 first-round pick back for Tuesday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers. Neto is hitting a rosy .252 with a .760 OPS, eight home runs, 27 RBI, and five stolen bases in 206 at-bats this season.

Zach Neto Scratched On Saturday

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (back) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. It appears the 22-year-old is dealing with back tightness. Halos manager Phil Nevin said the team is hopeful it's just a minor issue and Neto only misses one game because of it. In the meantime, Andrew Velazquez will cover shortstop versus left-hander Ryan Borucki on Saturday.

Zach Neto Activated And Starting On Friday

Los Angeles Angels infielder Zach Neto (oblique) has been activated from the 10-day injured list on Friday. The 22-year-old has been sidelined since mid-June due to an oblique strain. On the season, he's hitting .259/.338/.431 with six home runs, 22 RBI, and five stolen bases in 52 games. He'll cover shortstop and bat leadoff versus right-hander J.P. France on Friday. Fantasy managers should make sure to adjust their lineups accordingly with Neto back in the mix.

Zach Neto Scheduled For Live Hitting

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (oblique) is scheduled for live hitting on Saturday. The 22-year-old has been on the injured list since mid-June after suffering an oblique strain. He played well before going down, batting .259 with 45 hits, six home runs, and 22 RBI. Fortunately, he's made progress since then, so it's possible he'll be ready to return for LA's first game after the All-Star break.

Zach Neto Hopes To Return Shortly After All-Star Break

Los Angeles Angels rookie shortstop Zach Neto (oblique) played catch on the field and also was scheduled to hit off a tee on Monday, and he said he's hopeful he'll be able to return from the injured list shortly after next week's All-Star break. Neto has been on the shelf since June 15 due to a left-oblique strain that landed him on the 10-day injured list, but fantasy managers should expect him back soon, barring any setbacks. The 22-year-old had been seeing steady playing time at the 6 for the Halos ever since making his big-league debut back on April 15, and he should return to that role once he's back to full health. He has hit .259 (45-for-174) so far with six homers, 22 RBI, five steals and 24 runs scored in 55 games. David Fletcher has mostly been filling in at short for the Angels with Neto injured.

Zach Neto Could Resume Baseball Activity Soon

Los Angeles Angels shortstop Zach Neto (oblique) did not return to baseball activity ahead of Friday's game versus the Arizona Cardinals. However, Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher reports that Anaheim hopes the 24-year-old can get in some action on Sunday or Monday. Neto has been sidelined since June 15 with a left oblique strain. The No. 2 Angels prospect was really starting to turn heads before the setback, slashing a promising .355/.444/.710 with three homers, four RBI, and two stolen bases over 37 June at-bats. The fact that Neto could take some reps by the weekend's conclusion implies he is not far off from a return. The 2022 first-round rookie is a decent stash in deeper-mixed or AL-only leagues.
