  • Jackson Holliday Continues To Struggle

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles shortstop Jackson Holliday continued his slump at the plate during Sunday's contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The young infielder went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during the victory. Holliday is now 4-for-17 with seven strikeouts in six games this spring. There's still plenty of time for him to heat up, but it appears Holliday still has more work to do in the minors. It shouldn't be too long before Holliday is ready to tear it up at the big league level.

  • Jackson Holliday Hitting Leadoff On Tuesday

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles shortstop prospect Jackson Holliday, the consensus No. 1 prospect in baseball this year, is starting at second base and batting leadoff in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Detroit Tigers. Holliday has a realistic chance to make the club's Opening Day roster out of camp, although he's gone 0-for-4 with a walk and three strikeouts in his first two spring training games. If the 20-year-old does make the Opening Day roster for the O's, he'll be the team's starting second baseman to start. In the long term, there's no question that Holliday will be a shortstop in Baltimore, but the temporary move to the keystone will give him a better chance to contribute sooner than later at the big-league level. The upside is through the roof with the youngster, making him worth a stash in mixed fantasy leagues in 2024.

  • Jackson Holliday Playing Second Base In Spring Opener

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles infield prospect Jackson Holliday is starting at second base and is hitting seventh in the lineup for Saturday's Grapefruit League opener against the Boston Red Sox. Holliday, baseball's top prospect per MLB Pipeline, is a natural shortstop, but he's going to get plenty of action at the keystone this spring and could be the favorite to be Baltimore's Opening Day second baseman if he impresses in spring training games. The 20-year-old former first overall pick hit .323/.442/.499 with 12 home runs and 24 stolen bases in the minors last year at just 19 years old. The upside is through the roof with Holliday, and even if he starts the year at Triple-A Norfolk, he should be drafted in all fantasy formats with the potential to make an immediate impact whenever he gets to Baltimore.

  • Jackson Holliday To See Time At Second Base This Spring

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles general manager Mike Elias said on the radio on Tuesday that shortstop prospect Jackson Holliday, the consensus top prospect in baseball this year, will see "a lot" of action at second base in spring training. "I see some additional playing time for a left-handed hitter at second base," Elias said. The GM also said the team wants to keep Holliday "warm" at shortstop as well. The 20-year-old will be at big-league spring training and has a legitimate shot to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, although the O's aren't going to push him. Jordan Westburg is projected to be the team's primary option at the keystone to begin the 2024 campaign, but Holliday will get plenty of action there in camp as he competes for a spot. Even in single-year fantasy leagues, Holliday should be stashed since he's fully expected to make his major-league debut sooner than later this season.

  • Orioles Officially Invite Jackson Holliday To Spring Training

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles shortstop prospect Jackson Holliday, the No. 1 overall prospect in the game per MLB Pipeline, was one of 20 non-roster players invited to the team's major-league spring training. This had been the expectation all along, but it's now official. The 20-year-old son of former big-leaguer Matt Holliday made it all the way to Triple-A Norfolk in 2023 and hit a combined .323/.442/.499 with 12 home runs in 125 games over four minor-league stops last year. He'll be joined by fellow top prospects Samuel Basallo, Coby Mayo and Connor Norby and will have a legitimate shot at cracking the Opening Day roster for the O's if he impresses in spring training. Even if Holliday doesn't start the 2024 season in the big leagues, he deserves to be drafted in all single-year formats.

  • Jackson Holliday Voted Best Hitting Prospect

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

In a 2024 MLB Pipeline poll of front-office executives from all 30 organizations, Baltimore Orioles shortstop Jackson Holliday received 70 percent of the votes as baseball's best hitting prospect. Holliday is the game's top prospect after slashing .323/.442/.499 over four minor-league levels in his first full year of professional baseball in 2023. He was also just one of eight players with more than 100 walks on the year, finishing with a 17.4 percent walk rate and just a 20.3 percent strikeout rate. The 20-year-old will have a shot to make the Opening Day roster out of spring training this year, but the Orioles also won't rush the youngster if they think more time on the farm will benefit his long-term development. Needless to say, Holliday will be a high-end prospect commodity in all fantasy drafts in 2024, even if he doesn't start the year in the majors.

  • Jackson Holliday Could Make Opening Day Roster

    Headshot for Jackson Holliday

Baltimore Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said that "we're going to take a long look at him in spring" when referring to top shortstop prospect Jackson Holliday. MLB Pipeline's top overall prospect turns 20 years old on Monday but is already getting close to contributing at the major-league level for an Orioles team that won the American League East in 2023. The first overall pick in the 2022 draft hit an impressive .323/.442/.499 with a .941 OPS, 12 home runs, 30 doubles, nine triples, 75 RBI, 24 stolen bases and 113 runs scored in 125 games over four minor-league stops in 2023. He made it all the way up to Triple-A Norfolk, where he played in 18 games. Holliday should already be rostered in all dynasty/keeper leagues and is going to be a popular redraft pick in 2024 as well.
