Wilyer Abreu Remains Out Tuesday

Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Wilyer Abreu (hand) is missing another game on Tuesday as the team takes on the Texas Rangers and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi. Abreu injured his left hand while crashing into the outfield wall on Sunday and will now miss his second straight game. Fantasy managers should continue to consider the 24-year-old day-to-day. The Red Sox will roll with Masataka Yoshida, Adam Duvall and Alex Verdugo from left to right field on Tuesday. Abreu made his major-league debut with the BoSox on Aug. 22 and has held his own at the plate since then, going 20-for-55 (.364) with a home run, five doubles, 10 RBI, three stolen bases and eight runs scored in 20 games played. It remains to be seen how much playing time he'll get with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Wilyer Abreu Looking To Play Monday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu (hand) hurt his hand on defense during the last play of Sunday's 3-2 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, the 24-year-old told reporters after the game that he thinks he'll be available Monday against the Texas Rangers, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. Abreu has shown an ability to hit in his 19 games this season, as he's slashed .370/.443/.519 with one home run, eight runs, 10 RBI, and three stolen bases. The rookie is currently on the strong side of a platoon but is still a decent deep-league option for fantasy managers targeting runs, power, and speed.

Wilyer Abreu Activated From Paternity List

The Boston Red Sox activated rookie outfielder Wilyer Abreu from the paternity list on Thursday and optioned shortstop David Hamilton to Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move. For now, both Abreu and prospect Ceddanne Rafaela will remain in Boston with rosters set to expand on Friday. The 24-year-old Abreu has been away from the team since Monday. With Jarren Duran (toe) now out for the rest of the 2023 season, Abreu could continue to see regular playing time in Boston's outfield after starting his MLB career on the right note. Abreu has gone 6-for-17 with a home run, five RBI and three runs scored in his first five games.

Wilyer Abreu Expected To Return Friday

Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Wilyer Abreu, who is currently on the paternity list, is expected to rejoin the team on Friday in Kansas City for the start of a series against the Royals. Abreu was placed on paternity leave to begin the week on Monday, but the 24-year-old prospect will be back this weekend against the Royals. The team's No. 17 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has looked good in his first five MLB contests, going 6-for-17 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored. Now that we know that Jarren Duran (toe) is going to miss the remainder of the 2023 season, Abreu has some intriguing rest-of-season value in mixed leagues for his power from the left side of the plate.

Wilyer Abreu Retreats To The Bench

Boston Red Sox rookie outfielder Wilyer Abreu will get a day off on Friday against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers. Masataka Yoshida is playing left field and batting cleanup, with Justin Turner serving as the designated hitter and batting third against Dodgers right-hander Lance Lynn. Abreu has burst on the scene in his first three big-league games this week, going 6-for-12 with a home run, two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored in his first 14 major-league plate appearances. The 24-year-old outfield prospect should continue to see decent playing time for Boston until Jarren Duran returns from a sprained toe on his left foot, making him attractive as a short-term option in deeper fantasy leagues.

Wilyer Abreu Hits First MLB Home Run, Drives In Four Thursday

Boston Red Sox outfielder Wilyer Abreu had a big afternoon in a 17-1 win over the Houston Astros on Thursday. Abreu went 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, a walk, two runs, and four RBI in the blowout victory. The homer goes down as the first of Abreu's brief MLB career. The rookie outfielder is off to a nice start with the Sox, picking up six hits in his first 12 at-bats, including two doubles. Abreu hit .272 with 22 homers for Triple-A Worcester this season before getting called up to the big leagues.

Jarren Duran Placed In Walking Boot

Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran (toe) was recently placed on the 10-day injured list. The 26-year-old sprained his toe while climbing the wall during Sunday's contest. It appears he's going to miss an extended period of time after being placed in a walking boot on Wednesday. His absence should result in more playing time for Adam Duvall. Also, Wilyer Abreu could see more at-bats with Duran on the injured list.

Red Sox Call Up Wilyer Abreu

The Boston Red Sox will promote outfield prospect Wilyer Abreu to the big leagues on Tuesday for their game against the Houston Astros. Abreu gets his first major-league call-up after going 25-for-59 (.424) with a .528 on-base percentage, .949 slugging percentage, a 1.477 OPS, nine home runs, four doubles, 25 RBI, 18 runs and three steals in 17 games for Triple-A Worcester in August. Abreu came to Boston last summer in the trade that sent catcher Christian Vazquez to the Astros. He's started 35 games in left field, 27 games in right and 15 games in center for Worcester in 2023, but he's likely to be coming off the bench for the most part while Jarren Duran (toe) is on the injured list. The 24-year-old has hit .274 (82-for-299) with 22 homers, 65 RBI and eight steals in 86 games for Worcester this year.

Wilyer Abreu Hits Three Homers In One Game Amidst Big Week

Boston Red Sox outfield prospect Wilyer Abreu has come on strong for the club's Triple-A affiliate in Worcester. Acquired from the Astros in last year's Christian Vazquez trade, the outfielder has consistently shown off a strong arm and enough speed to cover the middle of the outfield. Although he is primarily viewed as a center fielder, Abreu has the skills to play both corner spots, too. Offensively, he has shown an advanced approach and discipline (15.4 BB%) while still tapping into his power (20 HR, .521 SLG). This past week, Abreu went 13-for-22 with a whopping six home runs, headlined by a three-homer showing on Aug. 13. He also drove in 16 runs, walked once, and drew four strikeouts. Boston is currently satisfied with its outfield situation, but a promotion for Abreu, who is on the 40-man roster, can't be too far away.
