Brayan Bello Pitches In Minor-League Game Friday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (forearm) threw three innings for Double-A Portland on a back field on Friday and gave up one run while striking out four. Bello tossed 42 pitches (24 for strikes). He will continue to ramp up his workload in minor-league games before the team activates him from the injured list as early as mid-April. The 23-year-old experienced right forearm tightness in the first week of spring training, prompting Boston to shut him down. The Dominican hurler made his MLB debut in 2022 and had a 4.71 ERA (2.94 FIP), 1.78 WHIP and 20.5 percent strikeout rate in 57 1/3 innings over 13 outings (11 starts). The stuff is there for Bello to be attractive in mixed leagues, but he'll need some fine-tuning.

Kutter Crawford Wins Rotation Spot
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Kutter Crawford will be the fourth starter for the team to begin the season. James Paxton (forearm), Brayan Bello (forearm) and Garrett Whitlock (hip) won't be ready to begin the season, so Crawford will fill in one of the last spots for a few starts to open the year. He could be moved to the bullpen as soon as April, however, as the trio of starters isn't expected to miss much time. Crawford has struck out 14 in 13 1/3 innings this spring with just three walks and a 2.03 ERA.

Brayan Bello Looks Good In Spring Debut
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (forearm) looked good in his Grapefruit League debut on Sunday against the Philadelphia Phillies, throwing two hitless and scoreless innings while walking none and striking out three in Boston's 9-5 win. Bello has been held back in camp due to right forearm tightness, but he made his debut on Sunday and looked very good while tossing 25 pitches. However, the 23-year-old will begin the 2023 regular season on the injured list, and he also might not appear in another Grapefruit League game. Bello will continue to throw in camp and build his arm up for the regular season, but he might not be a candidate to enter Boston's starting rotation until mid- to late-April.

Brayan Bello Making Spring Debut Sunday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (forearm) will toss a couple innings in a Grapefruit League game on Sunday for his spring debut. He will follow Nick Pivetta in the outing for Boston. The 23-year-old threw two innings on the back fields in spring training on Wednesday and is now ready to make his spring debut in a game. Even if Bello doesn't have any setbacks over the next couple of weeks, he's not expected to be ready to start the 2023 regular season in the Red Sox's starting rotation. The hard-throwing right-hander has plenty of maturing to do and will need to display better control to have consistent success in the big leagues, but his upside is intriguing in deep mixed and AL-only leagues if he's able to stick in Boston's rotation all year.

Latest On The Red Sox' Rotation
The Red Sox’ rotation will likely be down several starters to begin the season, as MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo writes that each of Garrett Whitlock, Brayan Bello and James Paxton are expected to begin the season on the injured list. Paxton had already been trending in this direction, but Whitlock and Bello now join him in…

Boston Red Sox pitchers Garrett Whitlock (hip) and Brayan Bello (forearm) both threw to live hitters on Saturday in camp. Whitlock showed no ill-effects from right hip surgery he had last September when he threw two string innings (46 pitches). His next step will be his Grapefruit League debut against the Rays on Wednesday. Bello tossed 17 pitches in his first live action against hitters, and he will throw two more innings of live batting practice on Wednesday. Bello is scheduled to make his first spring start around March 19 or 20. Whitlock has an outside chance to be ready for the start of the season, but if not, he'll likely only miss a start or two. Bello is certain to start the year on the injured list, but he should be back at some point in April.

Brayan Bello, Garrett Whitlock To Throw Live BP Saturday
Boston Red Sox pitchers Brayan Bello (forearm) and Garrett Whitlock (hip) will throw live batting practice sessions in spring training on Saturday, according to manager Alex Cora. The Red Sox are taking it slow with Bello after he started having soreness in his right forearm in mid-February. The 23-year-old has a bright future in Boston, but he could be slightly delayed for the start of the 2023 regular season. Meanwhile, Whitlock's Opening Day status is in doubt, but like Bello, he might not need to miss much time to open the regular season, barring any further setbacks with hip. The 26-year-old has been more dominant for the BoSox out of the bullpen, but he could have a higher fantasy ceiling if used in Boston's rotation this year.

Brayan Bello Back On The Mound Sunday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (forearm) is back on the mound on Sunday for the first time since he experienced forearm tightness earlier in spring training. Bello is set to throw 20 pitches in a bullpen session on Sunday. The Red Sox took precaution and shut down the 23-year-old for a week after he complained of forearm tightness, but he's resuming his throwing program now. It doesn't sound like his injury is very serious, although further setbacks could put him in jeopardy of not being ready for Opening Day at the end of March. Bello unsurprisingly had his ups and downs in his first big-league season in 2022, but he's competing for a rotation spot this spring and has plenty of long-term appeal for fantasy managers.

Brayan Bello Resumes Throwing Monday
Boston Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello (forearm) resumed throwing on flat ground at a shorter distance at spring training on Monday for the first time since reporting forearm tightness following his bullpen session a week ago. The Red Sox are being extra cautious with the 23-year-old early in camp, but it's a good sign that he's already back to throwing. Barring any further setbacks, Bello has plenty of time to build up in order to be ready for Opening Day. In his first major-league action in 2022, Bello went 2-8 with a 4.71 ERA (2.94 FIP), 1.78 WHIP and 20.5 percent strikeout rate in 57 1/3 innings over 13 appearances (11 starts). He was optioned back to the minors at one point, but he was better when he returned and has plenty of upside if he can improve his control.

Brayan Bello Shut Down With Forearm Soreness
Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Brayan Bello (forearm) has been shut down briefly due to right forearm soreness that he experienced in his last bullpen session when he threw a lot of breaking balls. Bello is scheduled to resume throwing on Monday. "We're very confident Monday he's back on his throwing program," Cora said. It's early in spring training, so most teams aren't taking any chances with minor injuries. Barring a setback, the 23-year-old should be ready for the start of the 2023 season. Bello was demoted to the minors in early August after his first taste of the majors didn't go so well, but he showed improvement when he returned to close out the year. He's still young and has control issues, but the strikeout upside is certainly there, and he has the stuff to become a rotation staple for the BoSox.
