Yankees Haven't Made Decision On Anthony Volpe
The New York Yankees haven't made a decision yet on whether shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe will be on the Opening Day roster, according to manager Aaron Boone. A report surfaced on Friday that Volpe, who is hitting .277 (13-for-47) with five doubles, three homers, five RBI and five steals this spring, has support from "high-level voices" in the team's front office to make the roster. The 21-year-old prospect has put himself in prime position to open the 2023 season as the team's starting shortstop, while fellow prospect Oswald Peraza has struggled. Volpe is a hit over power prospect whose bat is far superior than his glove. Fantasy managers in dynasty/keeper leagues should already have him stashed, but he's also rising up draft boards in single-year formats with his play this spring.

Anthony Volpe Continues To Make Case For Opening Day
New York Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe continued to make a case for an Opening Day roster spot on Friday versus the Minnesota Twins. Leading off, the 21-year-old went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run off Pablo Lopez. Volpe has been competing with fellow shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza, but Peraza has struggled mightily this spring. Peraza is on the 40-man roster and fared well towards the end of last season, but Volpe may be forcing the Yankees hand at this point. For the spring, the New Jersey native has hit .277 with three homers, five RBI and five stolen bases. Volpe is looking to become the first rookie in a Yankees Opening Day contest since Aaron Judge. If Volpe accomplishes that, he will be just the sixth rookie since 1951 in franchise history to accomplish such a feat. The talented shortstop should already be rostered in dynasty leagues and managers in redraft leagues are likely to see his ADP rise.

Anthony Volpe Could Still Win Starting Gig
New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe is still in the running for the starting shortstop spot on the Opening Day roster. The 21-year-old is reportedly getting support from the higher-level people in the Yankees organization. He entered camp as a longshot to win the spot, but has looked excellent this spring. He's hitting .279 with a .939 OPS and two home runs with five steals this spring. His main competition is Oswald Peraza with Isiah Kiner-Falefa likely to shift into a utility role. This decision could very well go down to the wire with a week left in camp. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on Volpe late in fantasy drafts.

Yankees infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa has been at the center of plenty of speculation this spring. That’s both revolved around whether he’d hold onto the starting shortstop job with youngsters Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe on the horizon and whether he could be traded to an infield-needy team like the Dodgers or Rockies. Now, Kiner-Falefa’s role for the…

New York Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe is doing "everything he needs to do" in the competition for the starting job at shortstop this spring, according to general manager Brian Cashman. Volpe crushed a home run and added a double in Sunday's Grapefruit League game as he continues his push to win the starting job on Opening Day. Through nine spring games, he's now hitting .320 with a 1.113 OPS. "I think they certainly respect his ability and the way he goes about things," manager Aaron Boone said. "A lot of our guys, especially our established, core players, I think he's gotten their attention." There are some concerns as to whether he can stay at the 6 in the long term, and some scouts believe it would be ideal for him to start 2023 at Triple-A. Volpe is turning heads, but Oswald Peraza remains the favorite to open as the starter at short because of his defense.

Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe went 1-for-2 with a run and pair of walks in a start on Monday. Volpe drew the start with fellow shortstop prospect Oswald Peraza (foot) sidelined with a minor foot injury. Volpe, 21, is the teams top prospect and has been off to a hot start this spring with a .353 batting average to go along with five runs, one home run, one RBI and three stolen bases over 17 at-bats. The young shortstop has developed physically since being draft in the first-round out of high school and has shown strong exit velocities and power to all fields. Volpe has opened the eyes of manager Aaron Boone and he has mentioned recently that Volpe could have a chance at breaking camp with the team. Although those words are encouraging, it is more likely that Volpe will open the season in Triple-A with Oswald Peraza already on the 40-man roster and shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa still in the mix. Regardless, Volpe has made real strides so far this spring and could make his big-league debut in 2023. Volpe's highest value is in dynasty leagues, but he when called up, he will make for an exciting addition in redraft leagues. He is a name to keep a close eye on this spring.

Anthony Volpe Has Opened Eyes During Camp
New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe has reportedly caught the attention of the organization during Spring Training. Manager Aaron Boone said the team has been paying attention to Volpe early on in camp. He continued by saying Volpe does have a shot at making the Opening Day roster. Although, the lack of Triple-A at-bats for Volpe is concerning to the Yankees right now. It seems more than likely that Volpe will begin the season in Triple-A. Oswald Peraza is more likely to get the starting nod at shortstop, but Volpe is making things interesting right now.

Yankees Shortstops To Play Multiple Positions In Camp
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that infielders Anthony Volpe, Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who are all competing for the Opening Day shortstop job in spring training, will play more than one position in camp. Kiner-Falefa has moved around the diamond his whole career and has even spent time at catcher. He also won a Gold Glove at third base in 2020. Volpe and Peraza have spent their careers mostly at the 6, though. Peraza has played 16 games at second base and none at third, while Volpe has played three games at third and none at second. Volpe and Peraza are young rising prospects for the Yanks, while Kiner-Falefa is the veteran of the group that gives the team the most positional versatility. It's expected that Peraza will win the job, with Volpe starting the year off in the minors for more seasoning.

Anthony Volpe Expected To Start At Triple-A
New York Yankees shortstop prospect Anthony Volpe will likely start the year at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after only getting 89 at-bats at Triple-A in 2022 while hitting only .236. The Yankees have high expectations for both Volpe and Oswald Peraza, who is considered the favorite to win the shortstop job over Isiah Kiner-Falefa in spring training. The 21-year-old Volpe will also get a chance to shine in big-league camp this spring, but fantasy managers shouldn't expect him to make his major-league debut until later in the year. Between Double-A and Triple-A last year, Volpe had a strong .802 OPS with 21 home runs and 50 stolen bases in 132 games, so he has a bright future. Fantasy managers in dynasty/keeper leagues should already be very familiar with his name.

Anthony Volpe On A Mission
New York Yankees infield prospect Anthony Volpe, who received a non-roster invite to major-league spring training, has worked hard this offseason to make sure he's in midseason form when camp begins. The 21-year-old will compete for the Opening Day shortstop job, and he went to the team's player development complex in late November to get a head start. The 2019 first-rounder will be battling with Oswald Peraza and Isiah Kiner-Falefa for the job. Volpe overcame a slow start At Double-A Somerset in 2022 and finished by hitting .251 with 18 home runs and 44 steals in 110 games. He struggled a bit in 22 games at Triple-A. Volpe is a pretty good bet to make his big-league debut in 2023, and his power/speed combination at a premium position makes him a tantalizing up-and-comer.

New York Yankees Will Have Shortstop Battle
According to New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, the Yankees will have a shortstop battle in Spring Training. Current shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa is defending his spot as the starter, but young stars such as Oswald Peraza and prodigy Anthony Volpe will be evaluated in Spring Training for a possible starting role. Kiner-Falefa slashed .261/.314/.327 in his 531 plate appearances and swiped a career-high 22 bags. Peraza was promoted late last season and retained a .832 OPS through 56 plate appearances. Volpe is yet to be promoted to the pros but is on the cusp of becoming the next Yankees shortstop if he turns some heads in Spring Training. Boone will have critical decisions regarding the Yankees shortstop vacancy, and all three players are strong contenders to win the starting position.

Oswald Peraza Could Be The Favorite To Start At Short
New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, manager Aaron Boone and owner Hal Steinbrenner have said to expect a spring training shortstop competition between incumbent Isiah Kiner-Falefa and top prospects Oswald Peraza and Anthony Volpe, but the feeling around the organization is that Peraza might enter camp in the lead. He's ranked No. 62 on Baseball America's top-100 prospect list and impressed at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and during a September call-up. Peraza has more offensive upside than Kiner-Falefa, who hit just four homers and struggled on defense. Volpe is New York's top prospect, but he has only 22 games at Triple-A under his belt and could use some more seasoning.
