  • Seiya Suzuki Back In At DH On Sunday

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) is back in the starting lineup for Sunday's series finale against the division-rival Cincinnati Reds, serving as the designated hitter and batting second against Reds right-hander Frankie Montas. Fantasy managers were probably pretty worried when Suzuki was pulled from Friday's game early against Cincinnati with tightness in his left oblique muscle. The 29-year-old outfielder has already been on the injured list this year with an oblique injury, but this one wasn't as serious and only caused him to miss Saturday's contest. You'll want to throw him back in your starting lineups despite the fact he's never faced Montas in his career. Suzuki has been a solid contributor for the Cubs this year when he's been healthy and has gone 16-for-54 (.296) with three homers, two doubles, a triple, nine RBI and two thefts in 14 games since May 23.

  • Seiya Suzuki Getting A Day Off

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is not in the starting lineup on Thursday on the road against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers. Mike Tauchman is getting the start in right field and will bat leadoff for the Cubs against Brewers right-hander Colin Rea. Suzuki will get a break in the middle of a modest six-game hitting streak in which he's gone 8-for-27 with eight singles, a walk and five strikeouts. The 29-year-old Japanese outfielder missed a little time with an oblique injury this year and is currently batting .254/.312/.389 with four home runs, 16 RBI and 19 runs scored. Expect him to return to the lineup on Friday for the series opener against the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Tauchman will be a nice DFS target in the leadoff spot against a right-handed pitcher. The 33-year-old lefty slugger has all four of his home runs against righties in 2024, also adding seven doubles in 156 plate appearances.

  • Seiya Suzuki Resting On Friday

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is being rested on Friday and will start Friday's series opener against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates on the bench. It appears to be a regular day of rest for Suzuki, who recently came back from a stint on the injured list due to an oblique injury. The 29-year-old has gone just 6-for-26 since coming back, but he was able to go deep in the team's last game on Wednesday against the Braves. Even after the rough stretch at the plate in May, the Japanese outfielder is still slashing a strong .282/.344/.482 with four home runs, 15 RBI and 16 runs scored in 85 at-bats for the Cubbies in 2024. Suzuki is a must-start in fantasy when he's in the lineup. With Suzuki out, Cody Bellinger is in right field and is batting second, while rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong will start in center field and bat eighth against Pirates rookie right-hander Paul Skenes.

  • Seiya Suzuki Goes Yard In Win

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki went yard in Wednesday's win over the Atlanta Braves on the road, adding a double in the victory. Suzuki's homer came as an insurance run in the eighth inning off Braves right-hander Jesse Chavez, traveling 433 feet to deep center. It's been a great first quarter of the year for the 29-year-old slugger, who's slashing .280/.337/.488 with four big flies, 15 RBI, 15 runs scored, and one stolen base across 92 plate appearances (20 games) as Chicago's everyday right fielder. A four-game series with the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates is on deck starting on Thursday. Over 15 games versus the Pirates since 2023, Suzuki is hitting .323 with one tater, seven doubles, 12 RBI, and 12 runs scored and will be a set-and-forget fantasy option.

  • Cubs Place Dansby Swanson On Injured List, Reinstate Seiya Suzuki

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

The Cubs are placing shortstop Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list due to a right knee sprain, with outfielder Seiya Suzuki reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move. The move is retroactive to May 8, per Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times. Swanson has been bothered by his knee since playing the Astros...

  • Seiya Suzuki Activated On Friday

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) has been activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been out since mid-April due to an oblique issue. Suzuki is not in the Cubs' lineup on Friday after appearing in two straight rehab games. This appears to be a travel day or rest day for Suzuki, so the expectation is that he'll play on Saturday. In the meantime, Mike Tauchman will cover right field and bat second versus right-hander Jared Jones on Friday.

  • Seiya Suzuki Starting Rehab Assignment Wednesday

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) will start a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. Suzuki has been away from the team for almost three weeks due to a right-oblique strain, but barring a setback in the minors this week, the 29-year-old outfielder could come off the 10-day injured list and return to Chicago's lineup this weekend. When he's back, Suzuki will return to an everyday role in the Cubbies' outfield, potentially pushing rookie Pete Crow-Armstrong back to the minor leagues now that Cody Bellinger (ribs) is also back. The Japanese right-handed hitter was batting a strong .305 (18-for-59) with three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored in his first 15 games for the Cubs before injuring his oblique. Hopefully, he can pick up where he left off when he returns to Chicago.

  • Seiya Suzuki Needs A Rehab Assignment Before Returning

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) will need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before returning from the injured list, but manager Craig Counsell wants to see how Suzuki gets through Monday's workout before his next steps are outlined. Suzuki did some hitting and defensive drills on Saturday and has already taken on-field batting practice, but given the nature of the injury, the Cubs want to see him play in a few minor-league games first. Depending on when the 29-year-old outfielder starts a rehab assignment, he could be ready to come off the IL by this weekend's series against the St. Louis Cardinals. Suzuki will be an everyday player for the Cubs when he returns, so he should be rostered in most fantasy leagues. Mike Tauchman's playing time will likely take the biggest hit when Suzuki is back.

  • Seiya Suzuki Could Be Activated In The Coming Week

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) could be activated off the injured list in the coming week, according to skipper Craig Counsell. The 29-year-old hasn't appeared since April 15 due to a right oblique strain after a fantastic start to his season. Suzuki hit .305 with three homers, 13 RBI, and an .893 OPS across his first 68 trips to the plate this season, production that graded out 52% above the league average, as per his 152 wRC+. Suzuki has been as advertised for the Cubs after signing a five-year deal prior to the 2022 season, hitting .277 with 37 homers, 15 stolen bases, and an .816 OPS across 264 games and 1,097 plate appearances. Fantasy managers will want to keep an eye on his status over the next several days.

  • Seiya Suzuki, Cody Bellinger Working Out On Saturday

    Headshot for Cody Bellinger

Chicago Cubs outfielders Seiya Suzuki (oblique) and Cody Bellinger (ribs) are hitting and taking part in defensive drills on Saturday. Suzuki is recovering from a right-oblique strain that he suffered on April 14, while Bellinger was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 24 with a fractured right rib. Suzuki also took on-field batting practice on Friday and is 80 percent recovered. The 29-year-old should be able to go on a minor-league rehab assignment soon, so he will likely return before Bellinger does. Pete Crow-Armstrong and Mike Tauchman are seeing more playing time in Chicago with both Suzuki and Bellinger injured, and both outfielders are swinging the bat well. When healthy, Suzuki and Bellinger will be everyday players for Chicago and should be stashed in all fantasy formats.

  • Seiya Suzuki Taking Batting Practice

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) took batting practice on the field this week and continues to progress from the right-oblique strain that he suffered on April 14. It was the first time that Suzuki took batting practice, so he's certainly getting closer to a return from the injured list. The 29-year-old said he's around 80 percent recovered from the injury and he could start a minor-league rehab assignment next week as long as he doesn't suffer a setback. The Japanese outfielder was hitting a cool .305 (18-for-59) with three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored at the time of his injury, and he'll return to an everyday role with the Cubs when he's healthy, so he shouldn't be floating around on any waiver wires. Mike Tauchman could be the biggest loser in terms of playing time for the Cubs once Suzuki returns.

  • Seiya Suzuki Not Ready For Rehab Assignment

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell indicated on Monday that outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) still has some steps to clear before being cleared to head out on a minor-league rehab assignment. Suzuki ramped up his baseball activity on Saturday and Sunday and is getting a recovery day on Monday, but he'll work out again on Tuesday and Wednesday. The 29-year-old slugger is on the mend from a strained right oblique, but fantasy managers should not be expecting him to be available for the Cubs until sometime in mid-May at this point. Veteran Mike Tauchman is handling everyday at-bats in Chicago's outfield and worth rostering in deep mixed or NL-only leagues for now, slashing a potent .294/.429/.500 with three home runs, 10 RBI, 16 runs scored, and one stolen base over 84 plate appearances (24 games) this season.

  • Seiya Suzuki To Be Out "In The Four-Week Range"

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique), who went on the injured list on Monday with a right-oblique strain, will be sidelined "in the four-week range," but the Cubs will have a better timeline for his return once he's symptom-free, according to manager Craig Counsell. It means that the 29-year-old won't be ready to return when he's eligible to come off the 10-day IL, but fantasy managers should still keep him stashed in all leagues, especially after he started the year 18-for-59 (.305) with three home runs, 13 RBI and 11 runs scored. With Suzuki set to miss at least several weeks, outfield prospect Alexander Canario, the club's No. 10 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is going to get his first extended look in the big leagues. He's starting in right field and hitting ninth on Tuesday against Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Tommy Henry.

  • Seiya Suzuki Placed On Injured List

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (oblique) has been placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. This is a tough blow to both fantasy managers and the Cubs roster. Suzuki was hitting .305 with an .893 OPS along with three homers and 13 RBI over the first 15 games of the season. Barring any setbacks, Suzuki could be back on the Cubs roster by the end of April. In a corresponding move, outfielder Alexander Canario has been recalled from Triple-A Iowa. He's one of the better hitting prospects in Chicago and should get a fair amount of playing time with Suzuki sidelined.

  • Seiya Suzuki Continues Hot Hitting

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki drove in four runs during Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Colorado Rockies, going 3-for-5 with a solo home run during the fifth inning. Suzuki also contributed to a four-run Cubs second inning with a single to right center that scored Mike Tauchman and Nico Hoerner. After Chicago let the Rockies get back into the game, Suzuki drove in his fourth run of the contest on a fielder's choice in the eighth frame. Not only did the 29-year-old Japanese slugger end 2023 on a high note, but he also hit .459 with a 1.593 OPS, six long balls, 12 RBI, and two stolen bases in 41 spring training plate appearances. That momentum appears to be carrying over into the regular season, as Suzuki is now batting .333 with a .972 OPS, two bombs, and eight RBI over his first 27 at-bats. His hot streak will be challenged during an upcoming three-game weekend set against a much more talented Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff.

  • Seiya Suzuki Rips Two More Home Runs Monday

    Headshot for Seiya Suzuki

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki blasted a pair of home runs on Monday in a 6-3 Cactus League loss to the Cardinals. It was the second time this spring he's had a multi-HR game, and he's got six home runs total in Cactus League action. Overall, the 29-year-old is batting .459 (17-for-37) with five doubles, six home runs, 12 RBI, 13 runs scored, and two stolen bases. He'll head into the regular season on a roll and is looking more and more like a value at his NFBC ADP of 103. RotoBaller ranks him at 88 overall. The Cubs get their regular season started Thursday in Arlington against the Rangers.
