  • Seiya Suzuki Not Starting Friday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Miami Marlins. Suzuki has gone just 9-for-50 (.180) with two homers, five RBI, six runs scored and 15 strikeouts in 12 games since the All-Star break, so he could probably use a day off heading into the weekend. Overall, the 27-year-old Japanese outfielder has hit .252/.327/.427 with eight home runs, 31 RBI, 29 runs scored and six stolen bases in his first 234 major league at-bats. Rookie Nelson Velazquez is starting in right field on Friday and is batting fifth against Marlins right-hander Edward Cabrera. Velazquez doesn't have much big-league experience, but he's gone 6-for-18 (.333) with three home runs and 10 RBI in 10 games over the last two weeks.

  • Seiya Suzuki Collects Four Hits

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki put together a strong performance against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday. The 27-year-old has been on fire lately and that continued during Friday's lopsided victory. He went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBI in the 15-2 win. This marked Suzuki's seventh home run of the season and his third in July. Fantasy managers should check the waiver wire and see if Suzuki is available. He is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now.

  • Seiya Suzuki Activated From Injured List

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) was activated from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Suzuki previously appeared in 41 games for Chicago earlier this season, hitting .245 with a .344 on-base percentage, four home runs, and three stolen bases in 163 plate appearances. Per a tweet from the Cubs' official Twitter account, the outfielder is back in the lineup and batting fourth for Monday's matchup with the Milwaukee Brewers and left-handed starter Eric Lauer.

  • Seiya Suzuki Set For Rehab Assignment Thursday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa on Thursday. He joined the Cubs in Chicago on Wednesday so that he could work out for the team and so that a plan could be made for his next steps. Suzuki has been sidelined for about a month due to a sprained left ring finger. The 27-year-old began his MLB career with a burst as he slashed .387/.565/.839 with four home runs across his first two weeks in the majors. However, he cooled off significantly after that. He hasn't homered since April 17 and now owns a .245/.344/.432 slash line on the year.

  • Seiya Suzuki Could Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday

Chicago Cubs manager David Ross provided an update on outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) on Tuesday. He stated that if Suzuki feels good on Wednesday -- after his batting practice session on Tuesday -- then a rehab assignment "would be discussed." Cubs beat writer Meghan Montemurro reports that Suzuki's rehab assignment could begin as soon as Wednesday if he indeed feels fine Wednesday morning. The 27-year-old rookie has been out for a little over a month due to a sprained left ring finger. He's played in 41 games so far this year and he's hit .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI and 20 runs.

  • Seiya Suzuki Hitting In The Cages

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) is building up his hitting progression at the team's spring training facilities in Arizona by hitting in the cages. Suzuki is expected to take as many swings as he can this week, but it's unclear when/if the Japanese rookie will go on a minor league rehab assignment. Suzuki is trying to return from a sprained left index finger that landed him on the injured list on May 30, and the swelling in his digit has gone down enough for him to resume swinging a bat. There remains no timetable for the 28-year-old, though, so fantasy managers must remain patient. Suzuki had slowed down a bit at the plate before his injury, and overall he's hitting .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in his first 41 major league games.

  • Seiya Suzuki To Take Swings Friday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) is feeling better since being shut down from hitting and will take dry swings on Friday, according to skipper David Ross. "If the pain and swelling get out of there, I think the process will move pretty quickly," Ross said. Suzuki is trying to return from a strained left ring finger that has kept him out since May 26. The Japanese outfielder began to slow down offensively in the month of May before his injury, going 15-for-71 (.211) with no home runs and seven RBI in 20 games in the month of May. But overall in his first taste of major league pitching, the 27-year-old has been pretty solid, slashing .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in 163 plate appearances. Suzuki should return to an everyday role when he's fully healthy.

  • Seiya Suzuki Shut Down For Five Days

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) will be shut down from batting practice and some other baseball activities for at least five days to get the swelling all the way out of his injured finger. Suzuki's recovery from a sprained left ring finger is coming along slowly, and he hasn't played since May 26. There's a chance that the Japanese outfielder will need to go on a minor league rehab assignment before returning to the Cubs lineup. The 27-year-old had slowed down a bit offensively before his injury, but he still deserves to be stashed in most fantasy leagues, as he is hitting .245/.344/.432 overall with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in his first 163 MLB plate appearances.

  • Seiya Suzuki Could Return This Weekend

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) could be activated from the injured list for this weekend's series against the Yankees in New York, according to manager David Ross. Suzuki will undergo his second full workout of baseball activities in Baltimore on Wednesday. The Japanese outfielder is out with a sprained left ring finger, but he managed to take batting practice on Tuesday. Even if he goes on a short minor league rehab assignment before returning, the 27-year-old should be back soon for fantasy managers as the Cubs everyday right fielder. Suzuki has held his own in his first 41 major league games, hitting .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI and three stolen bases. He was 5-for-26 (.192) with no homers and nine K's in seven games before going on the injured list.

  • Seiya Suzuki Hits In Cages

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) hit in the batting cages on Saturday for the second day in a row. Suzuki went on the injured list on Monday with a sprained left ring finger, but it looks like he's making good progress and could return when he's eligible next week. However, it's unknown if the Cubs will want him to go on a minor league rehab assignment first. The 27-year-old has held his own in his first taste of big-league pitching this year, hitting .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in 139 at-bats. However, he had started to slow down before his injury, going 5-for-26 (.192) with nine strikeouts in his last seven games. Jason Heyward has benefitted from more playing time in right field with Suzuki out this week.

  • Cubs Put Seiya Suzuki On Injured List

The Chicago Cubs officially placed outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) on the 10-day injured list on Monday with a sprained left ring finger and recalled left-hander Brandon Hughes from Triple-A in a corresponding move. The Cubs also designated right-hander Robert Gsellman for assignment. Suzuki's IL move is retroactive to May 27. He hasn't played since injuring his finger on May 26. The Japanese outfielder should be stashed in most fantasy leagues after he put up a .245/.344/.432 slash line with a 119 OPS+, although he's had only a .545 OPS in his last 91 plate appearances. Fantasy managers will hope that he won't miss more than the minimum of 10 days on the IL. Clint Frazier and rookie Nelson Velazquez should see the majority of playing time in right field until Suzuki is back.

  • Seiya Suzuki Likely To Land On Injured List

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) is likely to land on the injured list when considering how many games the Cubs have coming up. Skipper David Ross said that Suzuki pre-game workout didn't go well on Monday. Suzuki isn't in the starting lineup for Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Milwaukee Brewers. Fantasy managers need to get ready for him to miss some time. The Japanese outfielder has been solid in his first year in the big leagues, slashing .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in 163 plate appearances. Nelson Velazquez will get another start in right field and will hit sixth against Brewers left-hander Aaron Ashby in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader.

  • Seiya Suzuki Sitting In Game 1

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) is out of the starting lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader on Monday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Suzuki is missing his third straight game after he jammed his finger while sliding into second base last Thursday. It remains to be seen if the 27-year-old will return for Game 2 on Monday, but in any event, he shouldn't require a trip to the injured list. The Japanese outfielder has been a nice asset for the Cubs in his first MLB season, hitting .245/.344/.432 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and three stolen bases in his first 139 MLB at-bats. Nelson Velazquez, who was just called up from the minors, is starting in right field and batting seventh in Game 1 against Brewers left-handed prospect Ethan Small.

  • Cubs Hope Seiya Suzuki Will Avoid Injured List

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (finger) suffered a sprained left ring finger while sliding into second base in Thursday's blowout loss to the Cincinnati Reds, but the Cubs are hoping he will avoid the injured list. Manager David Ross said the team will have a better idea after Suzuki is re-evaluated on Saturday after the team's Friday off day. "I just want to see how it is tomorrow, take it day by day," Suzuki said. "But I want to be back out there as soon as possible." The 27-year-old Japanese rookie has had a solid first 40 games in the majors, slashing .241/.342/.431 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and two stolen bases in 161 plate appearances. Hopefully fantasy managers will be able to get him back into their lineups this weekend.

  • Seiya Suzuki Leaves Early Thursday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (hand) was replaced by outfielder Rafael Ortega in right field in the bottom of the fourth inning on Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds after he was checked by manager David Ross and a trainer after stealing second base in the third inning. It looked as though Suzuki was getting his left hand looked at. With the Reds up big in the game, the Cubs might be playing it safe with the 27-year-old Japanese outfielder, who entered the day hitting .241/.342/.431 with four home runs, 21 RBI, 20 runs scored and two stolen bases in his first 40 major league games. We'll have an update on Suzuki when we know more about the severity of his hand injury.

  • Seiya Suzuki To Sit Out On Friday

Chicago Cubs outfielder Seiya Suzuki (rest) is out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This appears to be a routine day off for Suzuki who has struggled at the plate lately. He has struck out in nine of his last 25 plate appearances, so he could use a day off. Rafael Ortega will bat leadoff and cover right field versus righty Humberto Castellanos. Also, Christopher Morel will play center field and bat eighth, so he could be worth a look as a possible streaming option.
