  • Kyle Manzardo Struggling During Opening Week

    Headshot for Kyle Manzardo

Cleveland Guardians first base prospect Kyle Manzardo is hitting .185/.265/.333 to open the young season at Triple-A. He has just one long ball and one double. Manzardo showcased excellent on-base skills in Triple-A last season with a .343 across 94 games and tallied 17 home runs, which suggests that the 23-year-old could turn things around rather quickly. While Manzardo looks to get out of this slump, he is still considered one of the top first-base prospects in the sport and should make his way to the majors later this summer. The Guardians have a logjam with Josh Naylor at first base, so his major league debut may be delayed. Nonetheless, Manzardo is a must-roster player in dynasty leagues and is worth stashing in keeper formats, if not already.

  • Guardians Reassign Kyle Manzardo To Minor League Camp

    Headshot for Kyle Manzardo

The Guardians have reassigned top first base prospect Kyle Manzardo to minor league camp, tweets Mandy Bell of Cleveland also reassigned catcher Bryan Lavastida and outfielder Petey Halpin. Manzardo is not yet on the 40-man roster — hence being “reassigned” rather than optioned — so this move won’t burn a minor league option year.…

  • Kyle Manzardo Sent To Minor-League Camp

    Headshot for Kyle Manzardo

The Cleveland Guardians reassigned first base prospect Kyle Manzardo to minor-league camp on Monday. The team also reassigned catcher Bryan Lavastida and outfielder Petey Halpin. According to MLB Pipeline, Manzardo is the team's No. 2 prospect behind only outfielder Chase DeLauter. The 23-year-old will begin the year in the minors, but he should make his MLB debut at some point in 2023 after hitting .381/.458/.476 in 13 Cactus League games this spring. He projects to be the team's first baseman of the future, but he has struggled in the minors against left-handed pitching and is currently blocked at the cold corner in Cleveland by Josh Naylor. Despite the fact that Manzardo won't open the year on the Opening Day roster in the big leagues, he should be rostered in all dynasty/keeper leagues.

  • Kyle Manzardo Hitting For High Average

    Headshot for Kyle Manzardo

Cleveland Guardians first base prospect Kyle Manzardo is hitting .381 with a .934 OPS in 21 at-bats this spring. Manzardo, 23, was surprisingly dealt by the Tampa Bay Rays for Aaron Civale during last years deadline and has become one of the Guardians top prospects entering 2024. The first baseman has been an on-base machine throughout his career and has shown improved power with 39 homers over the past two season. Last season in Triple-A for the Rays and Guardians, Manzardo combined to have a .236 batting average to go along with 17 homers, 55 RBI and a healthy .801 OPS. Manzardo was drafted as a player with a good strike zone, but the his improvement in the power department has been what has put him on the map. He won't be breaking camp at first with Josh Naylor entrenched there, but there is still a chance that he can crack the Opening Day roster as either a designated hitter or bench bat. He is worth keeping an eye on, but can be avoided in redraft formats for now.

  • Kyle Manzardo Likely To Start At Triple-A

    Headshot for Kyle Manzardo

The Athletic's Jason Lloyd writes that Cleveland Guardians first baseman Kyle Manzardo will probably start the 2024 season at Triple-A Columbus. Guardians officials reiterated this offseason the difficulty of hitting in Cleveland in April and how a slow start can bury young hitters. The 23-year-old grew up in Idaho, so he probably knows a thing or two about hitting in cold temperatures, but still, the Guardians would prefer to have Manzardo start the year in the minors for service-time considerations as well. Josh Naylor is the team's starting first baseman, too, although Manzardo could see plenty of at-bats later in the year as the designated hitter. He struggled at the plate early in 2023 in the minors and also dealt with an injury, but he bounced back after being traded from the Rays. In Cleveland, Manzardo profiles as the successor to Naylor at first base eventually.

  • Kyle Manzardo Invited To Spring Training

    Headshot for Kyle Manzardo

Cleveland Guardians first base prospect Kyle Manzardo, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, was one of 12 non-roster invitations to major-league spring training. Right-hander Tanner Burns (No. 20) and outfielder Petey Halpin (No. 21) are the others being invited to spring training that are among the team's top prospects heading into the 2024 season. Manzardo, 23, hits from the left side and is considered one of the best pure minor-league hitters, which is why he has a chance to crack Cleveland's Opening Day roster. Initially, he'll most likely be in a platoon at first base against right-handed pitchers whenever he makes his big-league debut. He hit a combined 17 home runs with 55 RBI at Triple-A Durham and Triple-A Columbus in 2023 -- he was traded midseason from the Rays to the Guardians. Manzardo should not only hit for average but also power at the next level.
