Colton Cowser Goes Yard

Baltimore Orioles outfield prospect Colton Cowser went 1-for-5 with a home run for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. Cowser remains one of the more talented Orioles prospects and has hit a steady .307 with 16 home runs, 57 RBI and eight stolen bases. The issue for Cowser has been his limited time during his big-league debut, where he struggled with just seven hits in 61 at-bats combined with no homers between two stints. Fantasy managers in dynasty leagues should still have plenty of reasons to hold onto Cowser as one of the better outfield prospects in the game, and he could be an asset for managers in redraft leagues next season.

Orioles Make Four Roster Moves

The Orioles announced four roster moves prior to today’s game with the Diamondbacks. Newly-claimed reliever Jorge Lopez has been officially activated, and right-hander Austin Voth was designated for assignment to create room for Lopez on the 40-man roster. Baltimore also optioned Colton Cowser to Triple-A, as outfielder Aaron Hicks was activated from the 10-day injured…
Sep 3 · MLB Trade Rumors Closers Orioles Colton Cowser Aaron Hicks Jorge Lopez Austin VothOrioles Calling Up Colton Cowser On Friday

The Baltimore Orioles intend to recall outfielder Colton Cowser from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday when rosters expand to 28 players, according to a source, as Baltimore is yet to confirm the move. Cowser ranks as the No. 2 Orioles prospect and MLB Pipeline's No. 14 prospect, and appears to be on the verge of his second big-league stint. The 23-year-old looked overmatched before being demoted on Aug. 14, slashing just .115/.286/.148 in 77 plate appearances with the parent club earlier this summer. Cowser's chances to raise those figures could be few and far between; he doesn't project as an everyday player the rest of the way. Fantasy managers should simply keep an eye on him instead of rushing to waiver wires to add him at this stage of the year.

Colton Cowser Sent Down Monday

The Baltimore Orioles optioned outfield prospect Colton Cowser to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday and reinstated outfielder Aaron Hicks (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Cowser, Baltimore's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, really struggled in his first taste of big-league pitching, going 7-for-61 (.115) with no home runs, four RBI and 15 runs scored in 26 games played. The 23-year-old still has a bright future, but he'll go back down to the farm to work on his swing before likely returning to Baltimore when rosters expand in September. Cowser is a dangerous all-around hitter from the left side of the plate, but he can be sent to the waiver wire if you were holding onto him in mixed leagues.

Cedric Mullins To Miss Third Straight Game

Baltimore Orioles outfielder Cedric Mullins (quad) remains out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. This marks the third game in a row that Mullins has missed due to ongoing quad tightness. The organization hasn't placed him on the injured list, so the team is hopeful it's only a day-to-day issue. Fantasy managers will have to check back for another update on his status. Colton Cowser will cover left field and bat seventh versus right-hander Emmet Sheehan on Monday.

Colton Cowser Not In Friday's Lineup

Baltimore Orioles rookie outfielder Colton Cowser is not in the team's starting lineup to start the second half of the season on Friday against the visiting Miami Marlins. Aaron Hicks is starting in right field for the O's and will hit seventh against Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara. After starting four games in a row after his promotion from the minor leagues, Cowser will start on the bench for the second game in a row. The 23-year-old has struggled at the plate in the early going, picking up three hits in his first 16 MLB at-bats, although he does have four walks against just two strikeouts. Cowser is the club's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, has the potential to become a dangerous all-around hitter in time with excellent bat speed and plate discipline.

Colton Cowser Hitting Seventh In MLB Debut

Baltimore Orioles rookie outfielder Colton Cowser is starting in left field and is batting seventh in the lineup in his major-league debut on Wednesday against the New York Yankees and right-hander Randy Vasquez. Cowser will get a little run for Baltimore prior to the All-Star break with Austin Hays (hip) still nursing a hip injury. The 23-year-old is the team's No. 2 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, earned his first big-league promotion by hitting an impressive .330/.459/.537 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 257 trips to the plate at Triple-A Norfolk. It's unclear how long the young left-handed hitter will stick around in Baltimore, but Cowser has a great all-around offensive profile with budding power and upside. He'll need to improve against offspeed pitches in order to have sustained success at the next level.

Orioles Promote Colton Cowser On Tuesday

The Baltimore Orioles promoted outfielder Colton Cowser to the big leagues on Tuesday, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports. The 23-year-old is ranked as the second-best prospect in the club's system and slashed .330/.459/.537 with 10 bombs, 54 runs, 40 RBI, and seven steals over 56 games at Triple-A this season. The Orioles will likely give Cowser everyday playing time in the outfield over Aaron Hicks, who owns just a .698 OPS this season. Fantasy managers looking for offensive help can take a chance on the former first-round pick, but he isn't a must-add in all leagues yet.
